Our Police State - JETS fan arrested for cheering at the Chargers game.

I went to a San Diego game a few years back. It happened to be the Packers game where Brett and gang kicked their___. It was great, my brother got upper section seats from a QualComm employee. Free food and drinks from the owner's area, awesome seats and parking spot in the owner/team area.

Funny thing is, my brother and I are rabid Packer fans. All decked out in green and gold. Seau's brother was the security guard at the entry to the entry into the stadium for that section. He saw us walking up with the special ticket tags, and he said quote "how the hell did you get these tickets"? We both laughed at the same time and my brother told him we know people high up at QualComm.

The game was great, the food and drink was great, and I was louder then hell. I did get quite a few evil glances, but in the seats we were in, I guess we got a little slack. I could see something like this happening if I was down in the regular seats.

For the video, need to see the whole thing. Edits are nothing but manipulation to get what you want to show across.

Junior's brother on the way out, told us we would have to take off our Packer's clothes.

I told him I would have to go naked because I had green and gold underwear on. To his credit, he laughed and told us to hurry up and get out of there before the team showed up.

Thanks for the perfect opportunity to tell this story. It was the best NFL game I have ever been to.

I just wish I would have made it to the Raiders game that year. That was the game where Brett had is best game ever. It was after his father had died. I let friends convince me not to go to the Raiders game. I guess that place can get dangerous.

Go Packers, oh they're out, Go Brett, damn he is a Viking now hmmm, oh well.

If cheering is that annoying, what should we do with people that blow airhorns or hold banners, stone them?

I thought cheering was what fans did at football games. If you're looking for class I would suggest going elswhere than a stadium, perhaps a symphony hall.

Yeah, in the video he didn't do anything wrong, but I too thought it looked like something was cut near the beginning of the video, so it is definitely possible someone cut whatever he did from the video. And who knows, maybe the cops had a warrant for his arrest for something he did before, and knew he was at the game? (yes, in this day and age they do still use warrants occasionally... )

Without knowing the entire story, though, it's impossible to judge on this incident. I wouldn't be surprised either way, and I doubt we'll ever get the full story.

And then he was resisting arrest... Right or wrong, the place to fight is in the court room. If it is a wrongful arrest that would have come out in the court... Hey there is video of it after all...

Now in this edited video it appears he did nothing other than cheer "jets"...

There is no obvious edit there. What is more plausible is that the person taking the video thought it would be cute to get that lone Jet fan on tape, and so he was filmed a bit. Then the camera was turned off for a bit to watch the game. Then, when the trouble started, the camera was restarted. Notice how the shift between the two clips if rough, with a slight glitch in the tape? That indicates that the camera was restarted, not edited.

People should always try to find a normal, rational explanation before jumping to more conspiratorial explanations. If the guy had done anything wrong on the tape, of course the person who made the tape would have wanted to show it... that would have made the video even more entertaining, watching a trouble-maker getting hauled away. That is how NORMAL people think. Only people who see conspiracies behind every bush inject imagined things where they likely don't belong. Plus, all the people would not have been saying "He didn't do anything" over and over if he had done anything wrong.

No, my bet is that somebody went and complained that they couldn't enjoy the game because of his constant shouting, and so the police either asked him to quiet down, or they asked him to step outside to talk with him, and as soon as the man said "Why?" or "Do I have to?" they considered that as "not cooperating" and that is when the fun began.

He was not half as annoying as the idiots that show up with whistles, horns, and various props to display during the game. People need to expect that there will be fans from the other team at sporting events.

This doesnt make any sense even if it happened in North Korea. How far are they going to take what comes out of peoples mouths?

Exactly my thought. If the people had any self-respect these they would have mobbed these guys. Instead, they allow themselves to get picked off one by one.

I was at that game. I was in a position to observe most of the activity of the Stadium. Police NEVER EXCEEDED their authority. The Officers at this Stadium were some of the most experienced and polite I have ever seen!

In one case I observed an officer ask a fan to settle down, the officer took his beer, and once he indicated he would settle down the officer gave his beverage back...after a few moments the fan shouted"....this is bull####..." and after a few minutes he kept being unruly...and it was only then the officer had him removed without any restraints.

There were a lot of children throughout the stadium...anywhere else this guy would have been arrested on the spot for either drunk driving or public intoxication. This video is just that....a video...there is not enough information to determine what other factors led to this exchange.

Wow...this is one of the first times I would say don't always believe everything you see and read.

as horrible as that was, I can see some good coming from it, in that hopefully the football fans will wake up from their slumber. Rome did well in providing their people with bread and circuses, if you take away sports, oh my, revolution is just around the corner.

Having attended a Jets game when they played my team (Titans), we were pelted with bottles, spit and anything they could throw at us just because the Jets were losing and we had the nerve to cheer when the Titans scored points. Nice hospitality.

BTW the Jets and Giants have their own policing in their stadium, and visiting fans are targeted basically just for being there. I read about an investigation that was underway earlier this season about the Jets/Giants policing because of the number of visiting fan complaints...haven't heart anymore about it though, but bringing it up because this was a Jets fan arrested at another stadium. What comes around goes around.

wow im dont even want to go to america anymore because im afraid to get arrested for having a fun time at a sporting event.

once upon a time, I was at a baseball game in the King Dome.

A certain left outfielder who also happened to play football was in the starting line up.

After about 4-5 innings of heckling him and stating all the good ones like "you ain't..." It would always be followed up by "go back to football".

Suddenly, a nice easy pop fly comes floating on out to left field. It was one of those where you stand there and wait, and wait, and wait,...until it comes down into your glove.

A simple execution that most little leaguers could complete, 9 or 10 out of 10 attempts.

Well, I'm sure you guessed it. The ball was dropped and in a hurried attempt to recover, he mishandled the ball and then overthrew 2nd base for a gimme double on error.

Ahhh It felt good and boy was someone hot around the collar...

Later, the same guy messed up his leg and had to quit both sports.

What a bummer.

I wonder if today, I would have been escorted away for such chanting...

When TSHTF, Americans are gonna get in the carts like the good sheep they are. Only one or two people there even questioned the police, and one was escorted out as well.

We are screwed. Because as a country, only 1 in 100 of Americans will stand up for thier rights when Martial Law is Enforced. That just aint gonna cut it.

Especially when the other 99 people are telling you.." Just get on the cattle car like the officer says, don't cause trouble. They re just taking us to a safe place, and gonna give us some nice showers."

It depends on how constant he was with his "Jets Jets Jets" chant.

If he was continually chanting, then he is disturbing the other fans around him (he would be a disturbance even if he was chanting "Chargers Chargers Chargers" or "Bolts Bolts Bolts"), and he should be told by stadium staff to either quiet down or he would be removed (and that warning may have happened before the video started).

You gave the example of an air horn. Well, blowing an air horn once in a while is fine, but if a fan was continually blowing that horn for an extended period of time, then that fan definitely would be disturbing the other fans around him.

We can't tell from that video if the fan was warned before he was removed -- we only saw a few minutes of what happened; Hopefully he was warned first. However, if that guy was chanting anything continually for extended periods of time , then he is a disturbance to the fans around him and should be dealt with in some form.

I've been to games where a fan, drunk or otherwise, acting like this (i.e., continually chanting -- even for the home team) was disturbing the fans around him and was told by stadium staff to quiet down or be removed. Usually they do quiet down, but I have seen a few fans get removed.

i would have resisted arrest aswell. for those people who say his fight should be in the courts thats ridiculous...you basically saying police should have the right to arrest ANYONE for ANY reason right or rong and then let it settle in court? no way.

you wouldnt let a stranger approach you and try to detain you in any way would you? you wud come bk swinging...so why let a police officer do it? if you are innocent you should resist arrest even if that means throwing a punch or 2...its self defense...protecting yourself from wronful imprisonment

As for the tape the guy was being a football fan and was arrested for it . There was way to many people around him saying he did'nt do anything . And the police looked as though they had realized it was a mistake . He will probably get an resisting arrest charge and a record if they prosecute but as far as I am concerned it doesn't look like he should have been arrested in the first place .

As for the people who claim edit!!! I am not with you on this one there are too many people surrounding the guy asking what he did wrong who apparently have no relation to the fan who was arrested .

Also who are the 2 suits in the backround ? feds ? homeland security ? who goes to a sunday game in a suit ?

I thought the cops way over reacted to that situation. You want heated exchanges come to my home town and go watch any small town junior hockey game. The parents are nuts and there are no cops or security there. A lot of yelling and screaming back and forth, the occasional fight but everyone accepts it as part of the game.

In the defense of the cops, they probably don't have time for a-holes and it seemed buddy was trying to get a rise out of the crowd. But that's nothing compared to the violence and sentiments that go on on the field.

I have a friend who teaches police ethics at the local academy, he comes in and speaks to my youth group from time to time. He feels very strongly about these types of abuses by police. His position is Police are paid to be patient and effectively deal with multiple personality types and diverse situations with cool heads and minimal force.
I observed very poor communication skills. Where was buddy's warning to settle down or we'll have to remove you? Even if buddy was slapped in the face by a woman, that would have been buddy's right to press charges on her. Security should have been called warnings given then if he still wants to cause a disruption call the cops.

Sure buddy was a jerk, albeit a drunk one no doubt, but he deserved a warning before being cuffed and dragged out. You could tell that much based on the crowd's reaction. My observations only

You and I both know cheering IS NOT the same as standing there for 2 hours screaming JETS JETS JETS JETS nonstop...people may not like cops, but to say that is NORMAL behavior at ANY sporting event is an outright lie or simply false. Again having been to MANY games, in all sports, I LOVE a good cheering section, hell don't even mind people getting a little rowdy (since I used to live in Philly, you get used to it..lol), but obnoxious and annoying is a totally different thing. ESPECIALLY when said person is drunk and incapable of rational thought.

As for people stating that everyone around him screaming he did nothing wrong...it was ONE GUY who said it, the rest of the people looked like they were glad he was being removed. The one guy who kept saying "he did nothing wrong" also stated, "I HAVE BEEN ARRESTED BEFORE, BUT"...then its hard to hear what else he said..hmmmm...so is he just another cop hater who saw an opportunity with the camera on?

Again, should he be arrested and charged, NO. Removed or Warned to relax, YES!

Oh and for those saying NO edit of the video...REALLY!

So they are filming him screaming..then OHHHH an edit...and next thing you see are cops and this man falling over. Why not ahow the officers approach, show what was said to the man, show what ACTUALLY happened?

Also let me point out for you cop haters...notice how the person filming was left alone. Not once bothered or had anything said to them...hmmm...also notice how the person WASN'T tasered, beaten, etc...hmmm...also notice well nevermind the list is to long..anyway...what a horrible police state we live in...I mean 78,000 other people remained in that stadium to watch the game without having to have cops come to their seat...WONDER WHY...
