One Film that comes to mind I doubt would be made today is David Bowie's " The Man Who Fell To Earth " . I loved the Film for it's somewhat Avant Guarde approach to telling the story , and it's reflection of 1970's Cultural Values at the time of it's release . The Special Effects in it were "Cheesey " , but the Message in it was Clear . Become to Powerful , and others will consider you a threat to be dealt with .

I am sure someone can top that example.

Sure...on 4chan, but this was a hollywood production.

I know, I am just guessing that if I know of this one rare hollywood flick, there must be more out there. I am just guessing.

Still though, I only saw clips. It's possible that within context of the entire movie, the overall effect may be different from what I saw. I notice that Roger Ebert of Siskel&Ebert gave it a particularly glowing review.

In the context of the movie, it is a decent film. I am not sure it is the best story in the world but it is not about sexual abuse or anything like that. The thing is that a fully frontal nude 13 year old girl is still a perfectly legal thing to photograph and own and share. It is this "To Catch A Predator" world we live in that has everyone "kiddyporn" obsessed. One clue is to watch the show I just mentioned and then listen at the end to how many of them got off due to lack of evidence. I am not saying those dirty pervs deserve to get off, just that what people think is the law is quite far from what is actually on the books. While this movie is legal, if someone were to propose a naked 13 year old girl now....wow!

Actually, for me it wasn't the "porn" aspect of it that I found troublesome. A naked 12 year old isn't a sexual thing to me, but the things she says...I give the girl credit. She was a talented actress even at 12, and she was able to make me squirm.

Was it 12? My bad. She was 13 in the interview I was watching so I mixed that up. I should have guessed at least a year passed between production and having to explain it on television. If you watch the film, there is not pornography at all by definition and she is impressive in her role. She reminds me of Dakota Fanning in the movie with Sean Penn. She is like a mature woman trapped in this little body and it makes it kind of endearing to watch. It is a hard movie to defend and impossible to defend clips and stills which have been passed around kiddy porn sites.

I never did mean to promote it though. I was just contributing it because I saw this thread and can see my dvds from here. I had to mention it.

How about a fork to gouge your eyes out with?

I saw the movie when it first aired on cinemax when I was quite young. I can do the math but really do not want to. It did not corrupt me. I would never turn down a free fork though. Can I keep it if I do not use it on my eyes? I lose my forks often and have to replenish them. It is a mystery. Maybe a new thread.

You were the one who called it kiddie porn. If I may quote you from this post:

I am afraid of getting in trouble if I describe this movie too much

it has many many many many many many fully frontal nude shots of a 13 year old

That movie is more kiddy porn than many get arrested for

Guess you got me there. I guess I thought people would get what I meant. According to the laws, it is not kiddy porn. It does however have more nudity in it than what many people do get arrested for. It was a comparison that I did not think I would really have to spell out as you seemed intelligent enough to get it. I did not realize I would be attacked by someone with nothing to add but to twist what I said into a sick accusation. The fact that you defend it as taking what I said at face value is just you forgiving him for not being smart enough to understand what I meant or look into what actually constitutes child pornography. You are more forgiving than I am but then again, you were not accused of having child pornography.

So I think you walked head first into that one.

Yup. That seems to happen every time I think I am having an intelligent conversation with people that understand how words work when they are put together in a certain fashion. You are right. I thought people here were smarter. My bad.

leads me to believe we still have some rare treats to be revealed in this thread

I'm still waiting for reactions from people to Harold and Maude. For those who haven't seen it...it's about a 19 year old with a death fetish who has a lengthy sexual relationship with a 79 year old.

I think that could get made today but I would really hope that no one would want to. I have never seen it, just heard the title before. Now it sounds interesting.

This thread is just making me want to see many of these movies that many of us believe would never get made again. Y'all got me really curious about some of these.

I tend to agree with "Blazing Saddles" being up there, although the racism was ironic.

"The Exorcist" comes to mind particularly the scene where Reagan (Linda Blair) mutilates herself with the cross.

It is funny that you mention that because it must be somewhat true and somewhat false. For years that movie was aired on cable with that scene missing. I forget when but they made a big deal about the fact that they were airing the full movie including the famous "crucifix" scene. Apparently it was taboo for a while and then a reason to celebrate. I just agree with you that studio execs would not embrace that in any new script passing by.

Maybe we are not more or less "PC" for lack of a better term, it is just what specifically offends us has shifted, maybe?

The Robin Williams movie "Jack" comes to mind, 1996

Robin Williams plays a kid who has some sort of growth malfunction and he grows like triple what normal people do.

He goes and buys porn for his friends, he goes to a bar on a date with Fran Drecher and I remember watching that on video for the first time and got uncomfortable knowing he was a kid. They start to make out I think...I don't remember if they have sex or not.

But that goes on the list of recent movies that may not make it today.

And notice Chappelle is no longer on TV...neither is Mencia. Their brand of "we can make fun of our own race" is gone now because society recognized it's wrong...not helping.

I also think certain parts of the Varsity Blues would be out of the question. The strip club...whip cream bikini. Not that those are inherently wrong, but because of the age of the characters.

edit to add: it seems there were obvious links to Big with Tom Hanks. First bit of trivia says he was originally considered as Jack for his role in big

These look pretty good. I actually stumbled upon Antichrist the other day, but I've yet to watch it.

Do you guys think Caligula could be made today?

The four movies I quoted are all dark and very disturbing to differing degrees, pace yourself....

As for "Caligula", that's one I haven't seen so couldn't really pass judgment, but if it is just the sexual content that you feel would be a problem, I would have to say, I don't see why not, given the content of three of the films I have recommended.

Harold and Maude is a great movie. I still laugh every tme I see it. There is no other movie I can say that about.

It could be made today, but it would fall far short of the original.

If you haven't seen it, you should.

I may be slightly desensitized. I lived in Japan for a while.

Harold and Maude
it sounds interesting.

The sexual angle is treated more or less plausibly and they were clearly trying to make a movie rather than make porn, but I don't really recommend watching it. It's supposed to be a comedy, but it comes across as the work of an american producer trying to create british humor...badly. There's an awful lot of very serious stoicism in the face of clearly ridiculous situations...but they somehow neglected to put the funny into it.

Can I keep it if I do not use it on my eyes?

Yep! One thread-theme appropriate fork for you. (Just don't ask how old it is.

Maybe you have been gone just long enough to miss the new hysteria of the last few years. Now every one wants to molest your children and parents get arrested for taking pictures of their own babies in the bath. The states have completely lost it over this topic and I did not want to be swept up with them. We have situations where people are arrested and found to be a sex offender for simply urinating in a park then the locals force them from town because of their nice new label.
