U.N.’s World Health Organization Wants Tax on Internet

Ahh, yes there must come a time in a mans life when he must pay to pay his bills. Doesn't make sense does it? Why make our lives easier when at the same time others can make money while we pay off dept? Great concept I must say! //sarcasm//

The World Health Organization (WHO) is considering a plan to ask governments to impose a global consumer tax on such things as Internet activity or everyday financial transactions like paying bills online. Such a scheme could raise “tens of billions of dollars” on behalf of the United Nations’ public health arm from a broad base of consumers, which would then be used to transfer drug-making research, development and manufacturing capabilities, among other things, to the developing world. The multibillion-dollar “indirect consumer tax” is only one of a “suite of proposals” for financing the rapid transformation of the global medical industry that will go before WHO’s 34-member supervisory Executive Board at its biannual meeting in Geneva.

A tax on the internet ?How absurd. Hasn't H1N1 worked to fill their bank accounts ? Some just can't stop scamming : / I'm highly curious about this proposal. Will post anything if I find news in the time to come.

Lately I have been getting some very odd vibes honestly. It's coming from a global perspective... I'm feeling like the beginning of something huge has started, can't really pinpoint it at the moment (since so much stuff is going on all the time) but I do agree the sh*t is going to hit the fan in due time.

Well when a search is done using google, this article has been blasted within the past 24 hours all over the internet and plenty of people are taking this very seriously, so do not try and tell me, or any of us, that this is not a probable situation. I definitely see this happening sooner or later, and unfortunately although it is coming from foxnews [MSM source yes I know] that doesn't mean it is complete bullsh*t. They do report some facts you do realize that right? The mass media does lie, but when it comes to taxation they don't usually joke about that sort of stuff.

What Fox news is talking about here isn't even feasible on the scale they're trying to impress. Sure the UN could say that they're now collecting 5% on all online transactions, but there would be no way to enforce it. All that would happen would be people would leave the larger online entities and services who would immediately cooperate and disperse all over the place. And realistically, what countries would insist on cooperation? America? The governments of the world can't agree on what to have for lunch on the best of days, good luck pushing a global tax through on anything.

You accept my apology? I believe I made none. I do not advocate the MSM, but as stated in my OP I said something along the lines of "Sorry to have to use foxnews as a link..." However, it is all over the internet. It was published less than 24 hours ago, so for you to sit there and tell me it's not feasible for this to happen and be introduced into the ongoing BS list of taxes that we should already not have to pay, you are just being plain stupid.

Take a look around you, have you not seen taxes rise and rise over and over again with NO support from the public for these taxes to be implemented?

Okay, the UN may not be able to decide "what to have for lunch today" but they can all agree more $$$ is always good. So I don't know what else to tell you other than the prospect of paying more taxes, especially for something like being able to pay bills online, just sounds ridiculous and yet I feel it is something that many countries would imply upon its citizens just because it would be an easy system to add.

Don't you love the way these deauch bags not only presume to have the authority to do these things, but actually think we would comply.

The 2007 Internet Tax Freedom Act protects against any US taxation (local/state/federal) of the internet at least until 2014. This does not include sales tax as that is defined as something else and falls under mail order.

No taxes that exclusively apply internet will be passed for at least a few more years. I don't see why the internet would ever be taxed in any forward country. It was not government created. No government is responsible for its maintenance. No government in the world has any right what so ever to tax internet usage based on those two previous facts. That may not stop some backwards nations from unscrupulously profiting off of the medium but here in the USA I do not see the people accepting any kind of internet tax.
