If the moon suddenly fell out of the sky, would the tide be in or out?

Fell out of the sky as in fell to earth or flew off into space?

If the moon fell to earth the oceans would wash up over all land...I'd call that in. Oh, and the earth's surface would crack open and all humanity would die.

If you mean flew off into space then the tide would be "middle" as in exactly between high and low tide. Then the oceans would die and eventually the ecosystem of the planet would drasticly change.

Indeed, clearly if the moon fell out of the sky and hit Earth, tides would be the least of our concerns.

If the moon was somehow removed from earth orbit. There would still be tides from the effects of the Suns gravity, but they would be far weaker.

Heres a handy page from howstuffworks.com on How the Tides work.
