Saudi airstrikes claim 13 lives in Yemen

Saudi airstrikes have claimed the lives of at least 13 people in the north of Yemen, Yemen's Houthi fighters have said.

According to the Houthis, Saudi warplanes carried out 12 attacks the details of which are yet to be released.

The raids come only a day after the Houthis said some four civilians were killed by Saudi forces.

Saudi Arabia launched its military attacks in Yemen in November after accusing the fighters of killing two of its border guards.

So things are really heating up on the Yemen front. No wonder that the MSM is increasingly focusing on Yemen using the Nigerian bomber as a pretext. Saudis are relentlessly pounding the Houthi rebel base. Looks like the House of Saud is worried about the Shiite rebellion spilling over in the Eastern Saudi areas that are oil rich as well.

Another worrying factor is Iran in the whole equation. If Iran had not provided weapons to the Houthis, the rebel movement would have been crushed by now. Yemen could be the pivotal flash point between Iran and Saudi/USA.

The Houthis crossed into SA weeks ago. Probably just for clout. The fact that Iran gave the houti's weapons is a claim made by Saleh based on the fact that they found them with the weapons, but it could not be verified that they recieved the weapons directly from Iran. the thing is, there are approximately 3 weapons for every person in Yemen. It is absolutely overflowing with them.
If there is a market for weapons they will be sold, and sometimes profit is the only motivation.
The AQAP has formed, and that concerns both Yemen and Saudi Arabia. If the houthis are destablizing Yemen, allowing alqaeda time to recruit and regroup, then that is a good reason for SA to bear some of the burden. This way the Yemen government can concentrate on Alqaeda and appease the other countries.
It is not only the US that is concerned with the AQAP.

I am glad to see the Saudi's taking an active role in the situation in Yemen. The threat has been at their back door for years.

Perhaps they received a little confidence boost from the US to start launching these strikes. Hopefully the Saudis will continue .
