or pick up a book, lol.

Look up the Ubaidian culture for a start. Serbsta has a huge thread here on ATS about the Sumerians.

Sometimes we learn more by asking questions.

Thanks for the reply.

Indeed we do - at least when the right questions are asked...

Well played ...

About a year ago I spent some time trying to research the Sumerians and their mythology. I quickly found myself in over my head. The time scales involved were very vast by historical standards, and defied easy understanding. It took me a looooooong time to get a good "mental map" of even just the overview of Sumerian culture...never mind the details. The rabbit hole goes very, very deep.

For history, I found the following site a very good place to start as it provides a nice visual timeline that shows the relationship between Sumer, Baylon, Assyria, and Persia...the major cultural "building blocks" in the region at different stages in time:
www.wsu.edu...

And here is a good starting-point resource for a rough grasp of Sumerian mythology:
home.comcast.net...

The same person who did the second link has done similar things with other mythologies in the region and (Babylonians, Cannanites, etc.), and they are all worth reading...but go slow. Sumer is a good place to start because it is the most ancient. Read and re-read, would be my advice. I still feel like I know about 1% of what there is to know.

The Sumarians where actually multiple city states with seperate histories going over an extended period of time. However there are large city cultures (20k+ people in one city) going back even 6 thousand years before them (as recognized by mainstream historians / archeologists).
