First molecular transistor created

www.msnbc.msn.com

The world's smallest transistor, made from a mere six atoms of carbon suspended between two gold electrodes, has been created by scientists from Yale University and South Korea.

Although transistors, which amplify or switch electric signals, are the fundamental building blocks of modern electronic devices, this molecular model is more of a scientific discovery than a technological breakthrough for now.

It is good that this has finely been done. At this point transistors won't really be able to get much smaller. However the article does state that this type of transistor will not go into production any time soon. The problem being with heat dissipation. So when that problem is solved we may see smaller and better computers, and then the scientists will have to find new ways to make computers better.
