It seems that most americans can hardly pay attention to what affects them in their own life, let alone the life of someone in some country you have never been to and have little information on.

I like the posts Iv'e seen from you so far. I don't like this comment. Don't speak for Americans please? If you are, then you should include the rest of the world. Lets talk about the earthquake now, thanks.

[edit on 12-1-2010 by Wookiep]

You are correct sir/miss, in that I should include others in the world in that statement. I can not however, I simply do not have the experience of cultures outside of USA to even speak of what they think. I am using a very broad brush just in describing americans, which I am one, as being to self centered, or even just not educated enough to fully understand how events of the world affect most people on this planet.

I know my brush will not paint all americans. I do not want it to, nor do I push for it to. I know that americans have some of the most diverse viewpoints of any country, as a whole, of any on the planet.

My assessment is based on my experiences in my life. I do not have any intentions of offending anyone because of this. If I wished to offend, I would make that clear in my post.

Anyways, THANK YOU for pushing me, without that I would not have clarified what I think.

I agree, i don't think you meant to make a point of Americans. It happens EVERYWHERE. I put a news article from CNN onto my Facebook, hoping to get a few people to express their sympathies etc, nothing. People would rather tag their friends in meaningless crap posts then actually stop and realise so many people have just lost everything. Not even a second glance or thought. Send a prayer if you can't friggen donate, no problem, but at least spare a thought for what these people are going through! you know?

Another coincidence. In the map u can see 3 earthquakes, 2 in Alasca (Haarp) and one in Haiti, the 2 in Alaska were 1 hour before the one in Haiti.

Have had CNN all evening, this is shocking and devastating, I am going to hate to turn my TV in the morning, my prayers go out to the people of Haiti.

I hope this is not an attempt to "push" this matter farther. If you mean to thank me in a genuine way then, you're welcome. So about that latest aftershock....

I am by all means NO expert on the topic, but my gut tells me that since this came out of nowhere and the 7.0 popped without any precursor quakes that the worst of it is over.

The many 5+ aftershocks are unusual - I hope that does not mean anything.

Sorry if the following is a bit off-topic:
Oddly, about a week or so ago I had a dream where I was shaving in my bathroom as a quake hit. I live halfway up a 40 story building so when the quake hit the building failed somewhere below me. I felt the floor giving out below me like my half of the building was toppling over and I just knew I was dead, so I sorta fell back to enjoy the ride as I hoped I would go quickly -- and then I woke up.

I will admit that I follow the Fragile Earth forum so it is not uncommon for quakes to be on my mind but I have never had an earthquake dream before - at least not like that. The only nature related dreams I have are tornado dreams (I grew up in the midwest). Personally, I feel more comfortable telling myself this dream was just coincidence. Maybe I read something on earthquakes earlier in the week and I just don't remember, eh?

wow, another strong aftershock. God bless those poor folks.

*Edit to add:
Maybe the geologic composition under Haiti is porous so there is more ground settling after such a large quake thus so many large aftershocks? I mean, what else could it be?

Lets hope our dreams DONT come true eh? Because the night before last my dream was that yellowstone finally blew it's top and i'm in Aust, but it covered the sky all over the world in ash and whatnot.

I dream about Tsunami's quite often and i found it really unsettling one day after having yet another dream of one to find there was an alert for my coastal region (one of the 1st times i've ever seen an alert stretch that far down the Aust coast) It was for the solomon quake in 07 i think.

I am very genuine in my thanks towards you. You questioned me. That shows that there is a want to learn why, or maybe just a first statement in a debunking... either way, an individual questioning something, is a very healthy form of debate and fact finding.

The act of questioning is most important. If everyone with the capable brain power of understanding, will question, then our world can never go wholly down the drain.

If I have gone off topic of your question, I am sorry. I do not yet have enough posts to U2U if you wish to discuss this further. I would like a response, but I do not want to derail the thread with such matters that are frivolous to this thread.

BTW I love spellcheck. lol

No worries, it's very hard online sometimes to decipher the meaning of textual statements and other peoples' intentions. To keep this short and not stray away from the thread, it's all good!

edit: and you're genuinely welcome.
