Have you people been tricked into choosing between Satan and Lucifer ?

Between the Rock and the Hard Place ?

Between the Frying Pan and the Fire ?

This has to be a joke. Violent video games over porn any day.
I have seen porn turn people into perverts but video games are just a way to release aggression. People would be more violent with out them.

I'll just make a small statement right now: When I kill in a video game I don't feel the need to kill someone in real life. When I watch porn I want to masturbate.

LOL! We appreciate you honesty mate!

Actually.. I like Ron... he's a bit bit of a legend... and funny too, but I think this is just Ron getting old and looking back on his life and desperately needing an avenue where he can deflect some inner guilt over his own sordid lifestyle.

He's right.

But then again, many things are worse than porn.

A shorter list would be things that are BETTER than porn.

I have played Metal Gear 4, it was disappointing lol... but that's besides the point. I agree that these games have stories and that they are planned, edited, written, re-written, and that it takes months to come up with the final cut for the game. I just think that the thing to remember is that violence is not something we want to show our children, at least not at a young age. Whether it be violence on TV about the war, or violence in movies, or violence on a console, it should not be shown. The thing is, that children can't grasp the lesson behind the game. They just play and that's it. We play using our brain and take the time to understand it. Not only that, but we have the maturity and life experience to understand the point, they don't have that yet.

Peace,

Magnum

Actually, I'd say that both are effective methods of releasing tension

Ron Jeremy's comments hold as much weight as a Game Developer saying Porn is worse than Violent Video Games. It's all about vested interests because neither comes from a neutral stance on the issue. I'm sure many ATS members watch porn and play violent video games so their opinions carry more weight and are likely more balanced.

Violent Video games and Pornography can be a danger to those not meant to be viewing them. There is a reason they have classifications and age restrictions. Parents should be doing a better job at stopping their under age kids from playing violent games and watching porn.

I agree. Although, is Killing People (or thinking of Killing People) equal to Masturbation in a moral sense? I think not.

Definitely not, but what I meant is that everyone who plays a video game doesn't turn into some primative animal that has to act upon compulsion. Porn, however, does make you turn into a primative animal that has to act upon compulsion.

Well, unless someone's in the room or something.

Is there any real scientific evidence to suggest that violent video games encourage violent behaviour?
In my own personal experience I have been playing games since the Spectrum days, my favourites being the most violent ones. ie Grand Theft Auto, Hitman, Call of Duty etc. I have also enjoyed watching pornography since the age of about 13.
I am now 31 years old and have never committed a violent crime. So in my experience, there has been no negative effects to violent video games, or pornography.

I'm sorry - but i've come to the firm belief that Ron Jeremy is both a hypocrite and an idiot.

No internet = no porn = no job.

No violent video games = more chance somebody might punch him in his fat gob.

And besides a man who's spent the best part of his life having his arse filmed on camera is hardly deserving of any real respect.

OMG for real, just look at our history!

If anything human beings are far more docile than they used to be. The Romans went to the Coliseum to watch combatant rip one another to shreds. Most Gladiators were FORCED to compete.

Human beings like watching violence, but we can do it with simple animations today...

Its the best of both worlds.

I'm a gamer. I've killed tens of thousands of virtual people. I've ran them over with vehicles, shot them, burned them, crushed them, poisoned them etc, etc, etc. If the anti-gaming goons were right, I should be a criminal with a few convictions under by belt... yet... I am one of the most law abiding people I know. In fact, I have a moral standard that is above the social norm. What's more, I don't try to force my views on others.

Edit: By the way, I've been murdering virtual people since I was a child.

Would I say violent games are harmful? In and of themselves, no. The line between fantasy and reality is pretty well defined. However, if someone happens to have a less well defined boundary between the two, then ANYTHING can be harmful to them. Games, music, television, books, and even day dreams. I think children have naturally less defined lines, so obviously they shouldn't be allowed to play adult themed games. The label has a rating, parents need to be parents instead of pawning those responsibilities off to computers and televisions. I'd imagine, for an adult, releasing stress through these video games would be more beneficial than getting in to a fight or turning to alcohol or drugs.

The same with Pornography. Humans are sexual creatures. Sexual tension builds and needs to be released. I'd rather billions of men masturbate to pornography than get stressed enough to act in ways they wouldn't normally. Repression only works for so long before it boils over. Imperfect creatures, that we are. If you're so concerned with porn degrading women... sex is being sold everywhere in magazines, ads, and commercials. They're being used for their bodies.

Unfortunately, unchanging social views are a problem with both. The porn industry is a disaster, filled with drugs (legal and other wise) and several other unpleasant things. But because of the way society is about porn, it's forced in to a "back door, dark ally" sort of environment. Many people want their porn fix, but publicly rant and rave about the "evils". Someone is spending billions of dollars in the US on this stuff, so it's ridiculous to pretend it doesn't exist or only exists for the minority. Because of that approach, the porn industry is allowed to be a dark place.

With video games, people tend to view it like the "old days". Where the games were all family appropriate and a flat goomba or a spinning turtle shell rolling around was the worst it had. Video games have matured in such a way and been divided so than kids have their games and adults have theirs. If the parent can't tell the difference (especially since violent video games make it obvious about the content) or refuses to deal with it, why exactly do we blame everyone but the parent?

We blamed books for turning kids bad. We blamed comics for turning kids bad. We blamed music for turning kids bad. We blamed television for turning kids bad. We blamed video games for turning kids bad. We blamed porn for turning kids bad. We've missed the mark so many times, so we'll keep blaming everything we can. Parenting is a major issue. Most families can't survive on 1 income. Both parents usually have to work. What's more, both parents are probably working full time 40hr a week jobs. They likely can't survive any other way.

edit: To add, with so many work hours... where's the time to spend doing the actual parenting? I'm tired after work. I can't imagine having the energy dealing with kids. So who's raising the children? Who's listening to their problems and guiding them?

Someone has to scoop cow crap. Someone has to pick up the trash. Someone has to work in the mines. Someone has to do the worst jobs in the country. Unfortunately, our society needs a bottom rung on the ladder. Tragically, it's something else that's treated like a dark secret to make everyone feel better. "You can all grow up to be whatever you WANT!!" Yes, because the school janitor always fantasized about how awesome it would be to mop up the vomit at lunch time. Crappy low paying jobs need to be filled. Pointing the finger at entertainment isn't going to help. I'm pretty sure the problem runs quite a bit deeper than if little jonny is playing call of duty or if little michelle is watching american idol.

Edit: To add, our society works a certain way. Right or wrong, it's a system we use without thinking. When society fails, I believe all of us are ultimately responsible for being so complacent.

That isn't what he said though.

I agree kids should not be playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare- however I also do not think kids should be watching Ron Jeremy in action, and on genre involves suffering, degradation and downright slavery whilst the other is a game involving computer generated images!

Very well said Lizard!

As has allready been said, i've been playing games since I was about 4, and never had the urge to kill anyone or jump on peoples heads or dive from an italian church into a bail of hay! but when you watch porn, it certainly does have an affect on you! and these are REAL people(not computer generated) doing some pretty disgusting things most of the time imo, porn is not just two people having sex! we have become so de sensitized over the past two decades!

If having sex with women on camera until you're an old man and old enough to be the girls grandfather gives you legend status, then I really don't know what the hell to think? I would'nt be proud of any daughter of mine being on film with any man, and certainly not the ''legend'' Ron jeremy!

Lol at this. I needed a good laugh. Thanks for this thread.

I am sorry right, but when was the last time you saw porn where the people "made love".

Answer ... Never.

There is no such thing. All porn portrays disrespectful scenes that are degrading to women. The men calling them "filthy sluts" all the time and a lot of porn is borderline aggression.

Whilst I agree that violent games can instill violence in a child I still think that Ron Jeremy is talking crap. Porn is just as bad but in a different light. It is telling kids that women want their faces to be spunked on and that they love having two guys in side them at once with one choking her (likely feigning in most scenes) whilst they call her a "filthy tart".

Personally, from my experience, music is the worst of the three for me.

Agreed. If I were a parent, I'd rather my child be a hardcore gamer than a chronic masturbator

He said parents should be more worried about the harmful effects of such games.

My son is 8 years old. I encourage him to play FPS (first person shooters). The reasoning behind it is because of the many benefits. It drastically improves hand eye coordination, it improves pattern recognition, it trains the brain to think in much faster ways.

The violent video games mainly the First Person Shooters are a great way to exercise childrens minds . (With guidance). Which is very important for the parent.

While I let my boy play these games, he does come to me with questions. He asked one time, "dad are those other guys dead now?" I answered "no they are not dead now, they are fragged." Then I explained to him that when one "Fraggs" one in a game it may simulate death, but it is only a game and reffer to it as fragging from now on.

To Frag, is the equivalent of tagging someone in the game of tag, and death is something very horrible if it is the cause of violence.

It is a learning experience, and a way to train the brain.

And for the record, no he is not to watch porn. Ever... Porn is worse than heroin.

Whatever people’s views, the facts are this...

There has been much research on the affects of porn and computer games... Most of this research seems to have come up with different answers... some say porn effects people’s behaviour (tendencies to rape, opinion of woman, selft esteem etc...) some say it has no effect... same with computer games and violence...

So, to me, it’s all inconclusive dues to the fact that everyone is different and so thing will affect us differently...

However... one fact you CANNOT get away from is what happens during the making of these forms of entertainment...

As I said before... no one has ever had to have an aids test as a result of making a computer game!! And the characters in the game are VIRTUAL... unlike porn stars who are real people!!

And, regardless of what some say, not all people choose to act in adult movies... Some of the woman and men involved in the porn scene obviously enjoy their profession... but there are also those that are forced into it (human sex trafficking) and those that are from abusive/vulnerable backgrounds that are coerced into it.

I have seen many documentary’s on the porn industry and the one theme that seems to run through them is that a majority of the actors and actresses have serious psychological issues!

The porn/sex industry is just plain wrong in my opinion and most of the arguments that are pro porn seems to have there foundation in a childish "i like it i want it" and "they choose to do it" mentality!!

One of the biggest eye openers for me in life was my first trip to Amsterdam for a stag party in the 90's... Myself and my friends were all in our early 20's and yes we visited the "red light district"

Most of the women along the canals seemed to be up for it but we couldn’t help noticing the sad look in some of their faces... When we moved away from the main strip (along the canal) and down a side street there was more women in windows... this time more woman of African and Asian origin... and looking a lot more bleak... almost detached... then we see a sight i will never forget... A young Asian woman sitting on a stall, in one of the windows, just blankly looking out and crying!!! She made no attempt to hide her tears and was just looking through us into nothing... myself and my friends moved off and ended up in one of the local bars... but the rest of that night was very subdued and i know that it affected us all!

However, it was not this that shocked me most... what shocked me most was the hoards of young men running around like kids in a candy shop... Laughing, smiling, making gestures at the girls in the windows... The whole human tragedy that was right in front of their eyes was completely blinded by their selfish lust and arrogance.

Very very sad indeed... much like the porn industry!
