Gender/transgender/gay topics- These topics are sensitive to many as thy pertain to the livelihood of those included in this category. Sexual orientation should have no bearing on topics concerning major conspiracy's. People are people...bottom line. When concerning the religious aspects of said topic the burden is placed on the "normal" person rather then the homosexual or the trans gender individual to "defend" their beliefs against the latter. This argument has no place in the conspiracy related world that is "ATS"

I have to disagree with you on that one. Nothing should be excluded from these forums because they are "sensitive" topics to people... I'm sure that 9/11 is a very sensitive subject for many people who frequent these forums, yet there is no way one could have a conspiracy site without including it. Every topic on this website is sure to stir up some hard feelings with somebody. Also, sexual orientation very well could be involved with major conspiracies... I can think of a few right now, but I don't really want to get into that on this thread (unless you really, really want me to). Everyone has an opinion and everyone has a right to voice theirs, even if it offends others.

Oh too right you are initially, But what do the intrinsic topics having to do with "gay and transgender" issues have to do with ATS?

Conspiracies boil down to lies and lies are what make conversational taboos what they are... 'secrets'. Above Top Secret's success is built on providing a safe place for anyone to discuss such hot topics.

A lot can be said about how money, politics, religion, sex, drugs and how each has an adverse effect on our lives but seldom people do for fear that they will be ostracized for telling the 'truth'. If you are advocating an atmosphere where only some taboos/secrets are discussed and others are not, such a contradiction and mockery you make of the motto to 'deny ignorance'.

Learn to embrace a grander, more complete definition of Above Top Secret, one that includes all subjects matters we are told not to talk about... aka 'secrets':

If you don't like certain topics, then don't read them... it really is that simple.

ATS is an "alternative topics" discussion board.... NOT a conspiracy site.
If you don't like reading about racism, sexism or whatever topics you mentioned... then don't read them.

do me a favor...re read my OP and then then re read your last post because last time I checked ATS was not a social networking site it is a conspiracy site! Plain and simple really.

Wow then again...maybe I gave too much credit to the masses in the way of expecting intelligent responses, I dunno [sic]

I agree with cordonna. People should be free to discuss whatever they want to discuss in these forums as long as they meet the T&C. If certain types of discussions were to be banned, where would it end? How can people be sure a discussion of any odd topic will not lead to some point of interest to the conspiracy minded?

Take the topic of porn for example. Inherent in this topic are links to organized crime, gender equality issues, psychiatric issues, censorship and freedom of expression issues, aspects of the history of publishing, aspects of the development of business models for the internet, issues of the influence of religion in society, etc. Any of these topics could spin out from a discussion of porn.

People can choose to opt in or out of any given discussion on ATS. Let's have as much freedom of speech as possible. My 2 cents worth.

I didn't say it was a social networking site, in fact i HATE those.
But do not kid yourself that ATS is solely, or even primarily, a conspiracy site.

MANY topics are discussed on here... and while i don't really like many of them andd don't feel they belong here, i don't need to make a thread moaning about it... i just DON'T read it?

See how much easier that is than not discussing all the subjects you mention?

I really don't see what your point is?

Right, I agree with about 0.1% of what you said...let me give you a simple example of my ideals so that you can comprehend....when a star of film and screen dies...it's not a conspiracy Is this too complicated??? Or do we feel the need to continue muckking up ATS with non conspiracy related topics.

The Definition of this being a Conspiracy-Site is maybe a bit too narrow. It may have been 5 years ago, but now its an "Alternative Topics" and "Fringe Topics" site in general.

If you see topics that dont belong, simply alert to them with "thread alert" or "post alert". Simple as that.

upon seeing the title i was expecting something more substantial. come on, you use 7 words to deliver a thought that could use only 2 to be effective. redundancy is evil and that is one of the things i hate about this site. also what`s up with double, triple, quadruple reposts of the same "news" on this site?

You should check again:

AboveTopSecret.com is the Internet's largest and most popular discussion board community dedicated to the intelligent exchange of ideas and debate on a wide range of "alternative topics" such as conspiracies, UFO's, paranormal, secret societies, political scandals, new world order, terrorism, and dozens of related topics ... www.abovetopsecret.com...
(emine)

Conspiracies is only ONE of the topics, not THE topic.

Btw, the "celebrity" threads which bother you so are, so far as I can tell, all eventually moved to BTS as you suggested already, so I'm not quite sure where the problem is there.

Wow then again...maybe I gave too much credit to the masses in the way of expecting intelligent responses, I dunno [sic]

It happens ... also with OPs.

I understand that, the issue here is that I believe that the intended reason for this site has been lost IMO. when I wake up and check ATS knowing that say a famous celeb has died...only to see about 10 threads arguing that the death was somehow a big conspiracy...because "OMG" so and so was...whatever.

If I wanted to join a site that promotes that sort of discussion then I'd take my pick of the 1.5 million or so.

I think you're both right. When I describe ATS, I explain it as a site that focuses on both conspiracies and alternative topics.

Probably about 40% of the forums deal directly with conspiracies the other 60% or so deal with alternative. Then of course we have forums that share alternative and conspiracy angles together.

Was the problem?

When I see the daily "I'm a alien thread " I just look past it, and those

threads would fit into your catagory of "ATS"

A little self censoring and Crisis over

I do agree with what you're saying in principal.
As i said, there are MANY subjects on here that i absolutely hate.... and IMO they have no place on here... but unfortunately we don't decide what is and what isn't on here.

Just don't read the stuff that doesn't interest you.

It really is as simple as that.
I wasn't trying to be rude or even blunt, just pointing out that if you don't like something, don't read it.

Thanks AshleyD! I'm glad to see that someone realizes my point. I do agree that ATS is as much an "alternative topic" discussion site as it is a conspiracy related site. The only question I have for my opponents on this issue is...If by alternative one means to blanket any and all subjects into, then why not just use BTS chit chat?

Its purpose is set by you people and what you post. If you want more Conspiracy post more Conspiracy. If you want something moved to BTS, alert it.

There are so many threads here that we cant possibly see all of them. Of Course threads about Britney Spears sexuality, as interesting they are to people like schrodingers dog, dont belong to ATS.

Threads about homosexuals? My personal view is that they dont belong to ATS, but thats just my personal view. Millions still believe that this is somehow a topic of great interest and that there are Conspiracies against Homosexuality, Conspiracies to promote Homosexuality, etc.
So just because I think Homosexuality doesnt belong, doesnt mean that it doesnt.
