Health Bills Could Expand IRS Role

Internal Revenue Service agents already try to catch tax cheats and moonshiners. Under the proposed health care legislation, they would get another assignment: checking to see whether Americans have health insurance.

The legislation would require most Americans to have health insurance and to prove it on their federal tax returns. Those who don't would pay a penalty to the IRS.

It is beyond me how anyone can support this legislation. Forced into a choice of further lining an extremely profitable corporate industry or the IRS. Does anyone really believe there is any "reform" in this Bill?

The only role the IRS should play is to give every taxpayer a 500 dollar a month tax credit or subsidy for insurance and a memo for each taxpayer to go out and buy the insurance they want or use it to cover the portion of the premium their employer doesn't.

Then all those idiots in DC have to do is to write a loser pays tort reform bill and some simple legislation banning insurance companies from denying coverage for pre-existing or developing conditions and to have no life-time limits.

This would satisfy most people.

They do not need thousands of pages to give a health care benefit to every taxpaying person/family.

Of course, they couldn't hide their billions of under the table deals in a more simple, one page bill.

The same people who don't file income tax returns and live in the underground economy will be the same ones who dodge the health care tax. No big changes here.

As for the IRS the terrorists and kooks blow up buildings and planes and miss a target that most Americans wouldn't miss if it was gone. However, then they realize that the IRS is made of people who have families and are just trying to make a living and get along like everybody else.

That fact doesn't temper their distaste for taxes but it puts a human spin on them. My best,
