Have any of you stopped to think that maybe we are being ruled by fear? I mean if everyone is afraid of the end of the world, then who really cares about ww3? It's almost like it's expected. As we travel this downward spiral, it's almost like, "There see! I told you so!", kinda mentality.

Some hope for it. They think god or ET will show face and save us. Do not expect God to save mankind-- you are expecting a torn apart world for this to occur. Maybe it will happen, maybe it won't; but, this is one hell of an expectation. Suppose we took some responsibility for our own actions verses leaving it all to fate. We are creating the very environment that allows all of this negativity. When you stop polishing the brass on a ship that is taking on water, because of the fear of sinking, you are already sunk. Even if the end of the world occurs, what good is it to live in fear at the present? Might as well make the best of it while we can; and, who knows, maybe things will start to look better?

Maybe it's the powers to be that are putting out all of these conspiracy theories; and, then they are able to get away with whatever they want, because we expect the outcome.

We are being driven by negative emotions of greed and fear. We are creating our own complacency.

To answer your question YES we are being ruled by fear. We have been for the past 100 years or more. Once you see this simple truth the future is much brighter trust me. The left vs. right crap is the biggest fear tool of all how many times do you see people with very similar opinions at each others throats we need to take this evil tool away from them. But the idiots on both sides are very dug in and its almost like comfort food to them it is very sad.

Agreed. There is an inherent duality to anything you say. Sort of Hegelian dialectic. The choices become non choices. If we rely on the advice of others to guide our desitinies, we will be living their dreams and not our own.

I lost a lot of weight once. Many people said, "Hey, your lookin great, just a little more, while others said. "You lost too much!" We have to believe in ourselves and what we feel is right. Just because someone believes in the right to own arms, does not mean they do not care about the environment. Too many issues become non-issues and while we are focused on the non-issues, the things that are really important go without debate.

I guess i am an optimist, because i believe most people are inherently good natured.

What i am trying to say is that we are creating our own demons, when we choose to believe that the "end times" are upon us. I know someone who has moved far away to the mountains, because he believes in all of the prophesies of doom.

He has given away his power. Instead of being surprised or shocked by the events of the day, they just validate and feed his fear demon. Now, he is being guided by his negative emotions. He is thinking that he is special and will survive the cataclisms to come. I ask if they do come, what kind of quality of life could you possibly have?

Would it not be better to go down with the ship? Especially, if you are a spiritual person, since a person who believes in spirit, should not fear death. He almost wants it to happen now, since he has been dwelling on it for the past 20 years, just so he can say, "i told you so"; and, validate himself. He has created a real monster in his own mind, that has adversely effected his entire life.

I believe in freedom of thought; however, when enough people think and react according to misguided belief systems, they can in fact create Armegeddon.

You make some good points

I posted this on another thread a few moments ago and it seems to fit here better but never mind.

"If you want to join me on the path to enlightenment, you're going to have to LIGHTEN up"

Ha! thanks. needed a smile. Just reverberating around all the doom and gloom threads and having late night brain flatulence.

BTW, peace infers a stop to fighting, but maybe not an end to the disagreement.

one step further,

resolution and understanding,

You make a very valid point here friend:

We are being indeed ruled by fear... in every sense possible.

I love this term: Fear-Porn.

We are addicted to fear; we seek mediums to express our fear, and to experience fear all the time; both consciously and subconsciously.

Think about all these disaster movies coming out about apocalypses, doomsday, the end of the world. I often think to myself: "How can people actually enjoy watching these kind of things happening? How come people get such thrill and entertainment from watching people suffer?"

Many new theories, and scientific studies are pointing to the notion that our conscious minds create our reality. We could very much be creating the apocalypse we fear so much by making it seem like a plausible scenario.

The good news is, however, that fear comes from, and creates negativity. Negativety is the easiest, and possibly one of the most destructive forces out there... but it is NOT the most powerful.

Positive thoughts and actions are FAR superior to negative actions and thoughts in power. It may not seem so at first, but you simply have to look out our nature, and you will find many examples of how positive messages and actions carry much more power than negative ones.

For example, lets put up 2 major blockbuster films- Avatar and 2012, and put them against eachother.

Avatar: positive message with positive outcome.
2012: negative message with negative outcome.

Both movies cost millions upon millions of dollars to make... and which one was more succesful?

Avatar of course! It has already made over a billion dollars in 3 weeks!

You could say that Avatar was simply just a better movie; better script, acting, directing, ect., but in reality, what are the factors that cause these factors to gain success?

Maybe not the best example, but I think it is a good one.

As the motto here is... "go light"

Yes, S & F for that.

Our minds are better than the very latest computers, but we don't use our minds. We switch off, we allow others to brainwash us - why, I don't know.

But we should all bring the power of our minds to eliminate fear.

Fear is implanted in our minds/brains by people who wish to control us - eliminate fear and eliminate those people.

Also, if we all brought the power of our minds to all the problems of the world, including war, we would overcome them.

This is what I believe.

Part of it is that we are bombarded with sensationalism. All of the selling of ideas and products We can only process so much information. Smart phones ringing off the hook, allowing others to impose their will upon whatever state we may be in, email, faxes, spam, while the tv is reminding us not to trust our neighbor. Bad news sells.

No wonder things appear to be speeding up. Everything in the modern age seems to be competing for our attention. One thing i can say about the folks on ATS--they read.

I totally agree with you on the positive thinking aspect. Also, i relate to the idea you express about addiction. An addiction is a destructive pattern of behavior, but addictions can be broken. Awareness is the first step. Haven't seen either of the two movies, but Avatar is on my list.

thanks for sharing your thoughts

I agree, we're being ruled by fear. I think we've always been ruled by fear. Love, respect, admiration - all are great qualities. But they lack the initiative that fear has the tendency to bring out. In other words, fear creates a demand. Kings, tyrants, and even beloved leaders, have exploited it throughout history.

As for being obsessed with "Doomsday" and whatnot - it is my belief that Mankind, in an overall historic sense, is essentially emo and infatuated with "doom and gloom" scenarios.
