You are right, there are whole teams of pro-debunkers, disinformation specialists and gang-stalkers on here and they use many different identities.

The staff are pretty much helpless to do anything about it - ban them and they just create more new identities

Gang-stalking really, really sucks BTW.

Gangs?

Or just people who are getting to "somewhat" know each other through ATS?

.....

On a related matter, where does one go to report overly paranoid people on a conspiracy site?

Heh...

Gangs are possibly not at large on ATS.

This is ironic, coming from an *admitted* member of a mask-wearing secret society, don't you think??

Ahh, you kill me, Masky-Mask

Yep, looks like a typical day on ATS alright!

Was that the Jets vs the Sharks, or the Skeptics vs the Believers?

Flakey,
Your right about this situation.
I'm writing a thread day to expose them...

Call me paranoid, but I think there is gang on here with an agenda... they want everyone to think like them, to put up with their prattlings and let them hog the boards....

They are called Christians.

Gangs and legal clubs are two different things. One is criminal, the other is not.

Besides...I wouldn't even think to bring my crew here....whoooooboy.

ATS has enough problems without the Faceless coming to town.

Happy New Year!

There are few things that ruffle my feathers more than "forum gangs"...

There are also very few things that are harder to determine. As has been pointed out in this thread, it's inevitable that people with similar interests are going to gravitate toward similar threads.

Given enough time, it's almost a mathematical certainty that people with the same interests AND beliefs are going to "appear" to be joining forces when, in fact, they are just participating in discussions.

Now toss in the fact that their beliefs are in direct opposition to your beliefs and it becomes very hard to think that are not colluding.

It's a sticky situation that requires rock solid evidence of foul play because the end result is permanent banning.

It would anger me more to think that we banned someone for simply doing what this site is here for them to do, share their opinions/discuss the topics.

In the past seven years I think we've only had one or two "real" forum gangs. We've had several instances that appeared to be gangs but in the end they weren't.

The best advice is to let the staff know via u2u and we'll look into it, but be advised it's a fairly rare occurrence here for whatever reason.

I believe most of the time these gangs/teams coordinate their activities offsite in order to stay under the radar, so to speak. They certainly aren't dumb enough to leave rock solid evidence of their activities in U2Us or anything like that.

I know this is going on from the many experiences I've had, but have no evidence of course so that's all I really want to say.

Christian? I aspire to be.

Gang member?

Let me put your mind at ease, no one is recruiting.

It's a CONSPIRACY site, looking for truth. That's why I'm here, and since I'm not in a gang, I cannot speak for others!

Sorry you feel threatened. I know how that feels.

I agree that people with like ideas will enter threads and to some it will look co-ordinated. I agree that the mods will certainly do their utmost to be sure and then act if it is the case.

I rarely feel it might be happening, but when I do its always when the derailers enter a thread discussing events regarding Israel and its military. But hey, this isnt news to most of the members, is it.

Just to be clear, we're talking about concerted efforts to derail a topic right?
Not opposing viewpoints?
Some complaints seem to indicate that because a thread is getting a lot of opposing viewpoints, it's ganging up, which I don't see as true.
I may be missing some of the more contentious forums, though.

Yes, forum gangs are intentional efforts to disrupt topics and discussions or groups that form in order to 'bully' opposing perspectives. Not simply members who agree on one view concerning a specific topic. With as many divisive issues that are discussed here like politics, religion, Middle East issues, etc., that often have sides where lines are drawn in the sand, it is very natural for those in agreement on 'a side' to appear like they are in collusion but it's simply a matter of people innocently agreeing with certain views.

Then there are the groups that consciously engage in an effort to derail certain topics, troll, or 'gang up' on those not in line with their group's thoughts. That's when it's a problem. ATS encourages collaborative research and community so simply agreeing is fine. But cliques, gangs, and bullying is not because it creates a hostile posting environment. It is a bit tricky to tell the difference, though.

Got it. That was my understanding, but started to get a bit confusing w/everyone else's input/perspective... Think I'll just stop reading this thread so as not to confuse myself.

Pretty much, just because you been ganged up on, dosn't mean it was a gang.

Believe me I know.

True!

But sometimes, it IS a gang! That also does happen.

I've experienced it ALL!

I have been attacked, insulted, & stalked by certain members who only joined ATS b/c they wanted to shut me up. Despite repeated alerts, nothing has ever happened to them, but rather, they were successful in shutting down the thread they objected to. So, they were basically rewarded for bad behavior. I have put those trolls on ignore, b/c I'm not going to let them intimidate me into silence, but unfortunately, it looks to other people who don't know what is going on that I'm refusing to answer/respond to them b/c I can't, not b/c I'm ignoring them.

I once started a thread called "Who's drunk and wants to gang up on some threads?" I was buttkicked immediately. You can check it out on my profile if you want.
