This actually makes a LOT more sense than most of the 2012 theories I have read...

...and it also gives an answer to the reason why the mayan calendar ended that has an eerie air of zen simplicity.

Thats it, it just ends. Along with those who created it, and everything else.

It also infers a certain question...

If it turns out the real reason the dinosaurs died was because of this solar scenario, then why have we been having the asteroid theory pressed on us since we were kids?

Does someone know something we don't? An early form of dis-info?

Just a thought.

Well thought out thread, well put together, presented well too.

Star & Flag. Good Thread. However, if we are in group D now. On a planet that has 7 billion humans, in which 95% of them are in struggling below poverty or worse... How can that be considered "easy"living?

I like to think that they aren't extinction periods but they are more like spontaneous evolution periods. I heard David Wilcock put it like this... During those periods the earth passes through the photon belt receiving a different type of light energy. I also agree that this higher frequency energy interacts with all types of life. In a sense communicating with it. If the frequencies of the Earth and the Cosmos are what molded life. ("And the word Was god") Then it's safe to assume that if the earth frequencies are changed, that would change the way the earth creates the organisms on it. I also find it fascinating how this photon energy can alter DNA, I truly believe that this is the "shift" we are supposed to go through.

I feel that this is happening now, People say that nothing will happen and 2012 will be no different than this year or 2011. I gotta say with just a few days into it 2010 is not just an ordinary year. We are going through the shift right now, and maybe 2012 will be the peak of it.

I think that we should look at 2012 as more of a goal, to find out how much we can change by that time. Then even if absolutely nothing happens, the World will still have been massively changed.

Another poster started to get into this...and I think you could be right...because the 62My cycle is actually a biodiversity cycle...and I feel 2012 will be for the good...it will be the end of one stage...and our transitioning into a new stage of evolution...but I really have no idea...all I know is something extremely significant is very likely to happen around 2012...

Well you didn't convince me.
That's because I was already convinced there is something up in 2012.
Now you have these numbers going, besides the underground seed vaults
and everything else TPTB have going on. The bees they seem to have all
flown off somewhere.
Sure does seem like something is going on that NASA isn't ready to cop to
yet. That W.P. article from 1983 really bugs the crap out of me.
Excellent thread. SnF

you know what i love to hate? family relatives that will look at the northwest half of the US covered in ice like a seen from the day after tomorrow and still won't believe in climate change... or because of a computer glitch and some more lies from the bible believe that 2012 isn't possible because Y2K already happened... i have relatives that can walk into alcatraz, be punched in the face by a ghost and still won't believe in the paranormal.. i also have acquaintances that believe there's no such thing as aliens in our infinite universe even though a famous astronomical math equation proves that at least 10,000 planets in our galaxy alone harbor intelligent life. but of course, their views are the only views.

just proves there are still idiots out there that believe they're right no matter how much proof you give them and no matter how young they were when they dropped out of middle school.

First of all, allow me to say great thread! Starred and flagged!

I haven't been on ATS in a little over a year or so. But coming back tonight and finding this post reminded me of what I love most about this site.

In my own personal opinion, despite the calendars, and all the predictions, etc. I think people really only have to "feel" what is happening. Someone else said it in this thread. You can literally feel that something big is on the brink of happening. I don't know if it's good or bad, but it's for real. I apologize that I have zero scientific evidence to back this up, but I remember taking part in a thread awhile back where people were discussing the feeling of something big about to happen. I'm far from alone.

Again, great thread. I'll certainly be keeping up with this.

If an advanced race decided to give mankind a unique gift from space, why wouldn't they also provide absolute and everlasting evidence of the source?

Why doesn't anything ever show up on this planet with the intent of revealing it's origin?

It does not NEED there to have been extra-terrestrials.

Consider Leonardo Davinci.

IN addition to designing full functioning...wet suits, tanks, parachutes, hang gliders etc, recent papers have also shown that he discovered cholesterol.

It is actually possible that some bright spark in the Mayan civilization with enough money and food to have tmie on his hands worked it all out.

ONe of the other ancient civilizations which has been suggested to have been influenced by possible alien visits is that of the Ancient Babylonians.

The ANcient Babylonians had a different counting system to us.

Whilst somewhat complex, the principle systems were of a mixed base where 6, 30, 60 and 360 were key, not 1, 10, 100, 1000 as we use now.

23,040,000,000 = 360 TIMES 20 to the POWER 6 (that's 360*20^6)

Oh it mey be another 1000 years.

Ok people, what will we be like in 1000 years. Make it 100 years.

Think of society. Marrage, how many will still be married to first wife with all the porn these days.

How many kids wont be brain dead from extasy and coke, pot.

How will our infrastructre be. ALl those towers we built 50 years ago. Roads, water pipes , sewer pipes. They all need fixing and we are all in finacial problems.

How many trees left in 10 years. How much soil is destroyed from farming with heavy chemicals. Cancer rates dropping so 20 years get it.

If the starts dont kill society soon we will destory ourselves.

And I for one think society needs a change. At work I notice, every year the work done gets a little lazier. But when you go to impliment a new idea its all" we've done it this old way for years and we arent gonna change for a young punk"

And that is the death of society. Complacent and not willing to change.
Screw this slave race society.

I demand less working hours so I can live my life and search my soul.

Nice thread. You definitely have presented a strong case for the year 2012 having some form of significance. It is comforting to see that some type of change is destined for us humans. While we all hope it is a positive change, whatever does happen will happen for a reason. In most cases, chance and coincidence are merely illusions.

I just fear that so much misinformation is being put out there about 21st December 2012 that finding the real and separating it from the hype is challenging.

Good on you for taking the time to put all these numbers together.

within two million years of the Solar System’s mid-plane galactic crossing.

So.. we just crossed it.. meaning.. we have approx 2 million years to live..

I think I can deal with that.

Considering that 1 alautun is 63 million years, and the Mayans havent even had a their calender for that period of time.....your thinking is flawed.
That's the whole reason I think 2012 is going to be significant...as I've explained numerous times now...

63 million years ago, the Mayan calender didnt exist. So how can the 63 million year period have elapsed to end in 2012? For one alautun to end in 2012 it must have began 63 million years ago.

Well I've stated a few times now why I think 2012 WILL be a significant year. If you accept that the Mayans couldn't have possibly worked out the length of our galactic cycle at their current level of advancement, you must conclude that some higher force, an advanced alien species perhaps, gave them this information. In this case, we can expect they gave them this info for a purpose and that it is fairly precise. And it probably wasn't just the Mayans that were visited by "sky Gods"...as another poster said:

Mayans, Nostradamus, Hopis, Chinese, Hindus and possibly Egyptians all predicted it.

Fair enough, but you havent presented anything on the short term and mid term calenders and the significant figures and periods that are associated with those. People dont realise that there are more than a couple of calenders at work here, yet because one of them ends everyone thinks a significant event is coming?

I cant wait til that date...and hopefully I can get the first "I told you so" thread out

That's a good point...I never really thought about that...but wouldn't that mean they didn't start the calender from its beginning? Did they in fact adjust it ahead so that they were in sync with the galactic cycle? And wouldn't that just add more significance to the 2012 date? Why wouldn't they just let the calender run from start instead of essentially right near the end?

The cycle bobling up and down the galactic equator is 36.000 years, 2012 we are suposed to go to "the other side" and up will be down south north and so on, this has to do with the black hole in the center of the galaxy. This is what i have understood from many many documentarys.
The 64 m years i knew nothing about. Can OP ot other please clarify?
One incident in a lifetime each 36.000 years is ok but once in 64m years i cant believe it will happen in my lifetime. Chances are miniminiminimal.

Firstly, the 'Mayan' Calendar isn't originally Mayan at all. The system of cycle counting was in fact borrowed from the Olmec and Toltec peoples, but it may in fact be much older than either of these aswell. This adds no credence to any theory about doomsday scenarios, in fact it heavily detracts from them. The Meso-American Calendar was a calendar just like the ones used in Western society today.

Dr. Karl can tell you what I mean:

"...when a calendar comes to the end of a cycle, it just rolls over into the next cycle. In our Western society, every year 31 December is followed, not by the End of the World, but by 1 January. So 13.0.0.0.0 in the Mayan calendar will be followed by 0.0.0.0.1 – or good-ol' 22 December 2012, with only a few shopping days left to Christmas."

Source

You can I suppose, use a car odometer as a better substitute...

...as each section of the odometer reaches 9 and then clicks over to 0, the next number to it starts a new cycle, so that when all the numbers again reach 0 all the way across the odometer - the last number will change from 1 to 2 and the new cycle starts all over again.

www.greatdreams.com...

Don't get me wrong, the ancient Meso-American cultures were great astronomers and had a surprisingly detailed knowledge of the heavens, but 12/23/2012 is a date which holds no more significance to the Maya/Olmec/Toltec than this last December 31st had for you.

Sorry ... I am totally confused by this thread.

What information has been posted that shows that 2012 is a significant date???

The 64 million year significance between 1 alautun and the solar systems wobble around the universe is a coincidence at best and most likely has no connection at all considering the time periods being discussed.

It is generally accepted that the solar system is moving away from the galactic plane with 30 million or so years to go before it crosses it again and so will not be passing through the plane in 2012.

Here is a quote from an article the OP posted

And if they’re right, we have time to prepare for the next major event, since the Solar System has just passed the mid-plane of the galaxy. The next peak occurs in ten to twelve million years, assuming the KU theorists are onto something.

Source

So by quickly doing the math:

Assuming by peak they mean when the solar system reaches the apex of its up and down wobble, we passed through the galactic plane aprox 4 to 6 millions years ago ... which, in the galactic terms we are talking in, means we have "just passed" through the plane.

The Hopi, the Hindu and the Mayan's did not mention anything of any substance about 2012 (I can't find anything about the Chinese and Nostradamus is too confusing for me so I won't comment either way on those)

Jon Major Jenkins might have mentioned something of interest to some people but he is neither Hopi, Mayan, Chinese ... he may be Hindu or the reincarnation of Nostradamus, I am not sure ... but he charges money for his info so we can't take anything he says about enlightenment seriously.

Was there anything else in this thread?

If there was I missed it.

Could someone please post a summary ... or did I just do that?

Well, thank you for that brilliantly insightful statement...but you made no attempt what so ever to provide a valid argument and debunk the points I am making here.

I don't think he needs to... just like the Cosmic Convergence where everyone said we were going to have mass earthquakes and everyone had the math to prove it.... and guess what? Nothing happened.

This will also be a non-event.

It has already been proven that the Mayan's never intended their calander to show an 'end-time event.' It was only the end of one calandar and the beginning of another one. People just love to make up bs to scare people and get famous. I'm not saying you are... you were doing your research. However, I think I will be justified in 2012... otherwise I'll be dead and it won't matter much anyhoo.

i believe it has already been established that these mass extinction events are in fact random events from each other, meaning, there is no cycle or set amount of time in between events. given that fact, it is hard to subscribe to a theory that suggests every x amount of years, an event occurs directly related to earth and its position in our galaxy. for if this was the case, then there would be more definative gaps in between events, and certainly not a degree of error as huge as +/-2m yrs.

interesting tid bit i dont think anyone has mentioned, our sun reaches its solar maximum in 2012, i believe this is when its poles are to shift as it happens every 12 years (i think).

great presentation OP.
