Anyhow how can we the Unites States be in such a bad recession and hard times falling all troughout our Great Country of America, where unemplyoeement is so high, and our Goverment keeps bailing out the banks and a supposed 3rd world country build such a Giant Building?

Is this where the money is going to fund this via: the Banks

Is this the sign of the new world power?

A MUSLIM WORLD? After all our latest President is Muslim himself!!!!

Now I am not sure where to post this thread please bare with me if its in the wrong location, anyhow please I would like to hear some feed back.

Please don't tell me that you are using the height of a building to measure the strength of a country? If height/distance in reach to space is included in this equation then we are still numero uno, but again this doesn't give a very accurate picture of the true state of affairs in our country.

As for the UAE being a contender as a world power, I think they may already be, they may have been flying under the radar all this time... pulling everyone else's strings to keep their country out of the limelight... though now boasting that you have the tallest building in the world, goes directly in the face of such a theory.

It is a bit silly to determine world powers based on tall buildings, you do realize that, right?

Power shifts. America wasn't a world power before WW2, and it would be full of naivety to assume that US is going to be THE world power forever. Currently the power is sliding to a consortium of countries in the east (plus Venezuela and Brazil), but this doesn't mean it's the end of the world. It's just the foibles of geo-politics and globalized capitalism that insists of one region being dominant over another. If it makes you feel better, Dubai (which is currently undergoing an economic crisis) was built by near slave labor.

As per Muslim president... do you have something against the Islamic religion? That is, other than a minority of radicals?

It's also Constitutional to have an Islamic president, you know.

The "E" in UAE stands for Emirates, not to nit pick, just in case you really thought it was Empire

Dubai has certainly been hit by the recession. They already have some pretty monstrous buildings there, like the Sail Hotel for example, and yes it's ostensibly an off shore bankers paradise. I wouldn't be concerned as to which religious faction leaders belong to, the Saudi prince has been pally with the Bush's and before that the Thatchers for years, as were the Bin Laden's and many many other well known Arabs.

I have a friend who is a teacher out there and she says the news has been pretty much as bad there as it is here. Hearsay but trustworthy. I also caught the latter part of a documentary recently on tumbling house prices in Dubai and other state members of the UAE... basically a couple of very rich Brits complaining that they can't sell their £3 million apartment in this market...

I think their problem is they bought a flat... sorry 'apartment' at £3 million in the first place.

I can see your point though, and it would make you wonder where all the money has gone. someone has it, and its not in The US or the UK so to speak.

Nope. The money that funded the Dubai Mirage came from oil. While everyone in the world was squeezed dry and driven to near poverty when crude ol hit $147 per barrel, the arab chieftains were laughing all the way to the bank (but not the poor arab masses, sadly).

Corporations had fuel that bubbly rise with their intractable stubborn delusions that the common folks would pay real dollars for worthless paper gains in the casino called the stock exchanges around the world, and realizing that new fools will not be forming the base of the pyramid game they played, oil was one last gamble to raise funds for themselves through collusion with the arabs.

Others realised what the Corporations were doing, and crashed their game with the revelation of the congroup known as lehman brothers, which led to banks sinking into deep trouble.

Oil price felled, Corporations bank funds wiped out, the world went into a recession. They thought they had time, but someone pulled their rug off the feet.

Who was the someone? Look no further than the east. Which country could still remain stable with positive high GDP growth today? Pieces of the 'new global masters' puzzles are begining to fit, and it aint the arabs.

( PS. The bailout funds had been used to bail out the Corporation. Noticed how the fat cats were still being paid obscenly high when the common people were left to live in tents now?

When elephants collide the grass gets trampled - the common masses are the grass now, and if the masses refused to wake up, they will be forever trampled upon. It is during this change of power transition that the factions are at the weakest. It's now or never for the masses to demand for control or share thru enlightened elected officials!

What is the worldwide secret that the Corporations/factions are hiding that may enpower the masses?)
