Grr, gnash, Grr etc etc!

Any time there is ANYTHING to be seen in the sky around here it is cloudy. Meteor showers, eclipses, comets you name it - all blotted out by cloud cover. Last night it was a lovely clear evening and then around midnight - clouds and it started snowing! I uttered something about restraints applied to round things!!

@muzzy: At least 7 killed in the Iran quake and many injured.

Press TV news article

someone should buy ATS a clock so they can see what 4 hours looks like

I hear ye! I have complained to them about this. Basically they are just not good at time and date. They have problems all over the place with that. I am sure they are longing for one single UAT zone (Universal American Time). I does not matter if mid day is at midnight elsewhere in the world!

BTW as regards the next eclipse on the solstice - I intend to be there so

Thanks for the pics, MoorfNZ, my phone decided to die damn it!
Was amazing to watch when it rose throught the red tinged dusk sky and the sunset was beautiful reds and golds at the same time. Then the christmas light display and full moon topped off a beautiful night.

I feel for the Iranians. Last week the Christmas Island tragedy, this week the earthquake.
This report says at least 9 aftershocks.

If you are referring to the area in the NW of that map, no it is the power generation from steam extraction.

I did an exercise on that a while ago but I don't think anyone was interested much. You can see the document Clear Water Geysers Earthquake Analysis from here on Scribd You can download the PDF from there.

EMSC are coming in with some pretty high magnitude Aftershocks
mb 6.3, 2010-12-21 17:53:25.0 , 27.56 N,143.77, E,10, BONIN ISLANDS, JAPAN REGION
mb 6.0, 2010-12-21 17:41:25.0, 27.14 N ,143.32,E, 2 BONIN ISLANDS, JAPAN REGION

then downgrading them

mb 6.0, 2010-12-21 17:53:25.0 , 27.56 N,143.77, E,10, BONIN ISLANDS, JAPAN REGION
mb 5.6, 2010-12-21 17:41:25.0, 27.14 N ,143.32,E, 2 BONIN ISLANDS, JAPAN REGION

compare to USGS
5.6 2010/12/21 17:41:27 27.086 143.287 10.3 BONIN ISLANDS, JAPAN REGION
5.6 2010/12/21 17:40:48 27.018 143.214 10.0 BONIN ISLANDS, JAPAN REGION

Been all over that one while you were asleep, looks like quite a bit too many 5's for a 7.4, I'm thinking EMSC was right originally at 7.9 and Geofon at 7.7, Geofon are sticking with their reading, EMSC downgraded.

Re that one in Cumbria, Wait till Puterman wakes up, he missed the biggest and closest quake to home all year

BGS had it at 3.5ML not 3.6 that USGS showing

Geez they can't even agree on a tiddler

What you think I am asleep? I did not miss it. I note there were also 2 off the coast of Norway as well.

Having problems finding more than 20 7+ at present from the USGS figures.

By the way the closest to home was the one in Clare, Ireland earlier this year. First for several years.

2010 Preliminary based on USGS only.
