First one I have ever put on YT because the ATS media seems to be broken - can't upload any media files at all.

This may be significant. There has been no activity in this area (Esjufjoll) for three months and possible longer, and this volcano is slated to be due within 2 years (about a year ago)

Edit:

Since I am no longer at You Tube virgin I thought I would put this on in as well.

Mm, I can see this becoming a fetish habit obsession regular thing. (Sorry that one is squished. WMV and Windows Movie Maker to blame. Won't use that again)

Great videos PM, thanks a bunch for putting those together. One fatal error though: you need to put Katla in the title for that one like this if you want views from searches;

Katla Volcano- Earthquake Patterns at Myrdalsjokull

99% of searches will be on the term 'Katla', not on the glacier name in Icelandic. Something to consider.

You can almost SEE that magma infusing itself under there.

Thanks TA. Yes I have to be a bit more 'media' concious.

I might re-do the squished one - I don't like it like that.

The following networks seem to have some difficulty with geography as they incorrectly call the epicentre in Sudan. Perhaps Ethiopia not on the PC list, especially USGS convieniently located it west of the border, unlike everyone else.

Deep Quakes/Subduction in action

I was just looking over the week just gone quake wise in NZ and noticed that things are starting to return to "normal" now that the Darfield/Christchurch 7.1 aftershocks seem to be tapering off a bit.

Quite a few deep quakes down the west side of the North Island which matches the supposed depth of the Pacific Plate under the Australian Plate at that position.
I threw together a kml file and combined the NZ quakes with some of the quakes the usgs have been showing up Tonga/Fiji way, some of those are quite deep also, especially the ones on the Lau Ridge.
eg
4.6 2010/10/22 12:11:12 -18.800 -177.697 628.0 FIJI REGION
4.8 2010/10/22 12:08:55 -18.949 -177.620 662.3 FIJI REGION

Note how the deep quakes dare not pass south of where I live

oops I let a 2.876 get by

Interactive

Note: there were obviously other quakes in New Zealand during the week, but I only plotted NZ quakes below 100km

I don't get it.
How can a 3.1 anything be a 4.8mb, there is no comparison in strength/power/energy whatever the 3.1 is.
What are the Icelanders talking about? 3.1 what? 3.1 Gleshplongenhels?

I guess we'll have to wait for the Iceland expert PuterMan

Something MAJOR just happened in Iceland. It's 11:46PM EST Oct 23th. Check that strong signal that is raised on nearly EVERY graph!

hraun.vedur.is...

If it was just a quake, maybe it was that 4.0+ ?? Or some major event is happening there. I mean, it's crazy active anyway, but this could be even more active. To me, I've been watching the quakes all over the world for 3 years. The entire pacific plate is shifting, putting pressures on the N. America and South American plates, therein causing pressure to build up the mid-ocean ridge, and up into Iceland...

All that energy being released in the Gulf of California is going somewhere too. I worry about an LA or San Fransisco quake.. The Baja region is STILL super active for how many months now?

Wish it would all just go back to sleep....
