Coincidence?

On Jan. 1, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, declaring that slaves in rebel states were free.

Source: AP
Wikipedia: Emancipation Proclamation

The Emancipation Proclamation consists of two executive orders issued by United States President Abraham Lincoln during the American Civil War. The first one, issued September 22, 1862, declared the freedom of all slaves in any state of the Confederate States of America that did not return to Union control by January 1, 1863. The second order, issued January 1, 1863, named ten specific states where it would apply. Lincoln issued the Executive Order by his authority as "Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy" under Article II, section 2 of the United States Constitution.[1]

It only stands to reason that where there's sacrifice, there's someone collecting the sacrificial offerings. Where there's service, there is someone being served. The man who speaks to you of sacrifice is speaking of slaves and masters, and intends to be the master... Ayn Rand

Explanation: Coincidence?
NOPE!

Personal Disclosure: Well done! St*r for you!

P.S. That is some of the best research into the reasons behind a thread being created that I have ever seen on ATS. YOU ROCK!

In other words, this is a dangerous thread and these ideas need to be summarily rejected as part of an affirmation of the unity of humanity and of the unlimited freedom that belongs to each and every human being ... no matter where they may be in the Cosmos.

Dangerous eh! I'll take that as a compliment! Thanks.

Personal Disclosure: Have ATS members forgotten I'm a Discordian and I'm quite open about it. Take a real good look at my Avatar OK! It speaks volumes....

P.S. As a liar, I would only just make you angry. I want to make you FURIOUS and that is why I'll bluntly tell you the TRUTH and let the emotional squeemishness be damned!

Hum. What kind of warranty are we talking about here? They don't make slaves like they use to you know. I wouldn't spend too much without some kind of guarantee that they wouldn't break down while out toiling in the fields. And all I'd probably need is some breeding stock to get started with, I'll just have my slaves make me some more slaves for free after my initial purchase.

I wonder, why are you worried about your moral order being twisted by another? If you're grounded, I'm pretty sure your moral order shouldn't be endangered by some idle musing of a hypothetical. I had earlier pointed out that these things can bring to light certain assumptions of your thinking that are also dangerous or self-deceiving (pre-conscious cultural memes).

No, I'm not afraid of this line of discussion. I think I'll be okay.

Ahh Id love a little slave. Buy it a basket to sleep in, maybe set up a wire mesh run outside so it could have a bit of space to excercise during the summer.

I know Im completely without a doubt going to hell for this, but this song popped into my head as soon as I saw this thread. Replace the word 'doggie' with a word of your choosing.

OL. You sure do have a way with words, especially in pissing people off with truth
. As said before the world would be better off if slavery were a thing of the past and for people to live in freedom. Give me freedom or give me death.

Well, I guess I would buy Heidi Klum for one American dollar. I would immediately put her to work in my bathrooms. Seriously though Totally crazy topic but I commend you on your stones for posting this and its originality. Born Free Die Free. Everyone in this world should have their own lives, choices and decisions.

Well I would just pay them less than what they can live on, move to a place where
that was the going rate and tell them they are free because they are being paid...

I would think that only people with no conscious would buy a slave. That would be a fate worse than death.

Not if I have to pay room and board.

I prefer the current system where I can enjoy the benefits of labor at well below market value without the burden of providing shelter and food.

FYI you'll note that I set the parameters for that in this post here.

Personal Disclosure: Under the supply and demand conditions that I set according to that post, those altruistic members wouldn't be making a dent in the number of slaves at all! But it is nice to know that they would try their best to be more than just humane. Do you agree with their moral standing?
Or would you prefer to return to the questions posed by my OP to this thread?

No way!
I'd have to feed, clothe, house and care for his/her medical care.
Just hireing someone that goes home every nite is much preferable.

It's funny how lots of people say they would buy one to set them free or to help the slave, but that's probably the rationale of slave owners, even back in pre civil war times. "White man's burden" I think it was called.

The real question is more interesting-- who are these slaves? Are they 3rd worlders OR perhaps genetically created beasts/robots? A robot with emotions would be a slave....

Do these slaves have rights at all?, for example can I burn my slave with a cigarette just because I'm bored, kill him / her for defying me, or chain them to the wall? are sex slaves allowed and are there age requirements?

Perhaps even a minimum standard, like slaves must be treated as well as dogs?.. speaking of which can I neuter, RFID chip or tattoo my slave? can I jack my slaves kidney if I need it? is slave pimping illegal?

If there were no rules, wow, some slaves would be subjected to the most disturbing, perverted & deviant behavior.. reprobates un-lucky at love because females find every fiber of their being repulsive, would simply purchase a few teen females to go with a Viagra prescription.

Can you imagine the videos? "slave fights", "slaves gone wild", "2 slaves 1 cup", "horny teen lolita slave loves her 10 masters"

Lets not rule out corporate america who would offer newer stronger slaves "Thanks to being professional grade, Our 2010 male slaves have 20% more slave-power and consume 10% less than the leading competitors "

Personal Disclosure: I'd never buy any slave for any price! The whole idea disgusts me but I would and could sell slaves as long as I didn't have to procure them for sale!

P.S. This thread was of course inspired by Jake Blues!

[to man in restaurant]
Jake: [fakes accent] How much for the little girl? How much for the women?
Father: What?
Jake: Your women. I want to buy your women. The little girl, your daughters... sell them to me. Sell me your children.

So do any members have the machismo to admit they would buy a slave and also what kind of $ value would be willing to pay for various individuals?

Slavery is legal. You just have to have a business license first.

And color doesn't matter as much.

I think slavery is wrong. However, the reality is that I am a low-level slave to the government/corporations.

I am the best worker I know. I accomplish more for my business than anyone else does. I am extremely intelligent and detailed. I make the business I work for grow. I am -not- paid what I am worth. I will never be up for promotion because I do too much. But, that is my reality.

Not to mention, I much rather be a low-level slave than a mid-level slave. I rather like my free time and I've learned how to pay all the bills, live minimally, have fun, and be happy with my wife and son on literally 10 bucks an hour. She works for 9 bucks an hour part-time, but she's out of work since giving birth.

And yet we're fine.

I laugh in the faces of those who complain about all the things they go through while they make so much money and yet have so little time.

However, my ability to intelligently and faithfully and knowledgeably live my life does not change the fact that I am indeed a slave to the world in which I was born.

Do you have the machismo to admit that you are a slave?
