Sorry but I would be much more impressed if he wasn't READING off a script. As someone who has served and been around, if I have something to bitch
about that I truly feel so strong about, I don't need a script. And in today's society, I wouldn't doubt if someone else wrote what he should
Reading off scripts does not help you connect to people, it makes you seem like a politician and as most of us know, listening to a politician read
off a script or prompter makes it dull, boring, and many many times BS!
Exactly! I know I have trouble myself articulating what goes around my head, and comes out my mouth, and there are times where I find it extremely
hard to actually put into words what I am actually thinking, but seriously, this video just sounded like a scripted advertisement for Ron Paul.
I can understand Soldiers being pissed off at the Commanders, and the Politicians who put them in the situations they have been in, but why would you
sit in your own backyard, reading off a script, when there are Laws in place to take these Leaders and/or Commanders out of the positions of power.
Here is a thought I have had lately though, and anyone on here that is a current serving member of the Military, or has served, maybe you could answer
it for me. Now, here is what I want to know. I am aware that EVERY Soldier has the right to refuse, or follow, an Illegal Order. Now, the supposed
reason that Americans, British, Aussie, and countless other Nations Soldiers are in Iraq is to "Search for Weapons Of Mass Destruction", and since
it was never proved that Saddam ever had any since the sanctions from Gulf War 1, then why doesn't every Soldier stand down, and refuse to follow
those in Senior Command Positions, since the premise of them being there in the first place was WRONG, thus, Illegal?????
Now I understand that a Soldier can be charged for refusing an order, but if you saw your mates beside you dying every day, under the premise of lies,
and possibly being charged for following Illegal Orders, wouldn't you rather take your chance on a Court Martial, and the chance of proving that said
orders were Illegal, than continually being exposed to death, destruction, and a whole load off bull# that has been based on lies.
And yes, I also understand that I'm just a dumbarse Civilian that wouldn't understand a single thing about fighting in a warzone, and never leaving
a mate behind, but since my old man fought in Viet Nam, I have seen how it can severely stuff up a persons sanity. Sometimes the biggest heroes are
the ones that know when to walk away, and live to fight another day. Sometimes you can't pick your warzone, but you certainly can pick who you
And please people, don't take this out of context. I'm not having a go at serving members of the Military, and the Vets that have served before
them. I have the utmost respect for them, and I always will, but sometimes people need to stand up and say "NO! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!!" And that goes
for us Civilians as well.
Edit:- Having looked up the Geneva Convention, and some of the Applicable Laws of War, I came across this - Roles of laws of war in the United States
The Hague and Geneva Conventions guide military rules of action for US forces. They can be summarized as:
* Fight only enemy combatants.
* Do not harm enemies who surrender; disarm them and turn them over to the chain of command.
* Do not kill or torture detainees.
* Collect and care for the wounded, whether friend or foe.
* Do not attack medical personnel, facilities, or equipment.
* Destroy no more than the mission requires.
* Treat all civilians humanely.
* Do not steal; respect private property and possessions.
* Do one’s best to prevent violations of the law of war.
* Report all violations of the law of war to superiors.
As for the one in Italics, I wonder how many Soldiers do that???
