There has beena lot of debate over this issue over the years, used to be that you couldn't get certain channels on satellite (I Used to have one of
those huge CBand dishes) due to your proximity to being able to receive them over the air. Now it's all about charging the cable companies 50 cents
or so to carry the channels, all to pay for the cost of the satellite transmission to them (or fiber or , you get the jist).
The advertising revenues are down, the broadcast stations NEED to make money to survive, so this just seems like the next logical step to keeping the
Big 4 on the air (I do not nor will I ever consider the CW a true broadcast network) The hype put out by companies such as Time Warner Cable recently
are just that, hype, designed to make people so afraid that they will bombard the opposition with mail/email/calls etc in an attempt to get them to
in other words, it's good PR, nothing more, nothing less, broadcast companies have been charging the cable providers a nominal fee for years, they
just want to raise it 10 cents and all hell breaks loose.
