Hey ATS, every so often there comes along a thread asking about posting YouTube Vids on ATS.

We all know by now to click the wee YouTube box and insert everything after the = sign!

For example, if I'm watching the vid with the link h t tp ://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIC0Kl4TKoU

Then I would put "DIC0Kl4TKoU" in the box.

But you often read people asking why it doesn't show up in the preview, where members like to check if it's working or that they've got the right video (understandably).

Some YT videos just don't load in the preview.

But I've discovered that if you insert everything after the =, then press enter, then add &Feature=related after everything after the = then it WILL show up when you preview it.

Taking the above example, I put DIC0Kl4TKoU into the YouTube vid box(dunno what to call it!)

Then I get

[y v id]DIC0Kl4TKoU[/y v i d] NO GAPS in the yvids though!

But it doesn't show up in the preview, but when I insert &Feature=related:

[y v id]DIC0Kl4TKoU&Feature=related[/y v i d] NO GAPS in the yvids though!

it does!

It may not be a biggie but it can help when making a thread and it's good to know it's all working before you press the "post" button.

Try it out on a reply to this thread.

I find it useful so I thought I'd share it with you!

PS if there is any kind of code like &Feature=blahbalh it usually will work in the preview, this is a trick for the majority of vids that just have BG34GyhhY after the =!

All the best, Kiwifoot!

G'day kiwifoot

I could see the black rectangular area in my preview, but I couldn't see the still frame from the video.

I'll try it again in a sec because I don't think I followed your instructions exactly as you wrote them.

Kind regards

I tried the method, it worked in the preview of the post area, but when I get back to the post on the thread, it seems to be nothing more than a black square with the you tube logo on the bottom, then when you click on it it gives an failure to load warning!!

Here is the thread area-

www.abovetopsecret.com...

I don't understand why I can't get these videos to work for me, been having probs with the new method ever since it had came about...

Any ideas of what I am doing wrong.

My method:
Click you tube vid button
enter the numeric entry of the vid to the open area of the request bar
push OK
Preview post (Which your method did work in the preview)
post reply
Black squares (Bigger than Sh#!!!)
Go back to edit
same thing (Darn, Darn, Darn!!!)

So, I am at a loss, have no idea how I am screwing this up. It is simple enough, but the out come for me is not a good result ever....

G'day Allred5923

Are you getting the bracketing correctly typed in?

I got that wrong a few times when I first started adding the occasional YT video to my posts.

Kind regards

Sorrry i haven't replied, I just noticed that some folk had seen the thread lol!

Hm, that's really odd, can you post a link to the vid you want to play, I'll see if i can do it.

If I can't it's YouTube's problem not yours!

All the best, Kiwifoot!

What "Brackets" are you talking about?
I haven't been adding any kind of brackets or the like.
That could be my problem, please let me know what and where these symbol's belong, and I will give it a shot.
Thanks for the new advice though!!

I'm talking about the square brackets that open & close text as per the op's first post:

But I've discovered that if you insert everything after the =, then press enter, then add &Feature=related after everything after the = then it WILL show up when you preview it.

They are automatically placed when one uses the YT video button on the post/preview page.
That is why I couldn't understand why it wasn't working for me, it is actually self explanatory and quite simple of a procedure.

"Do you think it is more effective doing this manually?"

I always do it manually....

I haven't tried using the YT button.

Actually, I hadn't noticed that button

Well then! It's settled. "I will discontinue the use of the supposed "EASY BUTTON"S" entirely.
I have been doing the quotes and such old school, I have been a member here at ATS forums from 2006 and have never had a problem, once I understood the procedure of certain thing's, but as soon as I started using the "NEW AND IMPROVED" buttons, thing's went to hell very quickly!!LOL

But I do like your feature method for preview page, and thanks for sharing the process, very cool indeed!!
