Again I am not saying there are not bad cops we all know there are plenty of them out there. The thing is there are more bad “average people” than there are bad cops. Society itself is caving in due to the corrupt nature of mankind. You cannot look at the actions of the day without seeing some heartless uncaring jerk off acting like a complete moron.

how exactly do you know that?

Edit: FaCK the police

If you ever get mugged, assaulted, raped, burgled or sexually assaulted, dont bother calling the police.

Would be a waste of taxpayers money to send police to those that dont want to be helped

Unfortunately it's part of the job out that way, the nearest back up is hundreds of kilometers away.

It would take some guts to be a remote cop.

ok ican understand that but if they weren't destroying someones property and just beating the hell out of each other they should have left them be until backup could arrive.
i don't know the whole scenario and how it went down-but if i was a cop and i showed up on the scene with only 3 backups i would use common sense and say we are way out numbered- stand down- we'll deal with it aftrewards.
kind of reminds ofthe end of the movie policeacademy

They'd waste the tax payer's money anyways - they're on Salary.

(Note: A nation's police officers should never receive any more pay than the lowest paid soldier serving in a war-zone that the nation is involved in)

Anyhow, the fellow might as well put the thugs to some use since they'll be wasting his money regardless. But then again, there is always that risk you will be beaten or tazed if you call them....

So you'd have a criminal on the loose for the price of gas.

You're a classy guy Oz.

Would YOU be as willing to make as little as a soldier while they are serving in a war-zone? I mean if you think a police officer should have to, what makes you any different?

My best wishes for the officer and his family.

I'm sure if people had died while the officer had stayed by his vehicle just observing the melee, he would have been condemned for not doing anything.

At least he had the gonads to try to do what was right before somebody got killed.

There are certain places that police won't go without backup or ambulance officers won't go without a police escort because of the high risk of being attacked.

Hell, even nurses in hospitals periodically get attacked by drunks and drug addicts.

What does that say about our society?

You can't say all cops are bad eggs when society in general are bad eggs.

I'm retired.

With my pension, I probably do take in less than the lowest paid soldier serving in a war-zone to which my nation has committed itself.

*However since the comparison was not between retired senior citizens and soldiers, but instead between soldiers and police officers - your point has little relevance (this can be attributed primarily to your ignorance of this poster's economic status).

Anyhow just to restate; A police officer should not receive more pay than the lowest paid soldier serving in a War-Zone to which a nation is committed. Neither should any civil servant or government worker receive more pay than the lowest paid soldier of that nation. In the USA, cops get paid twice as soldiers and are over thirty times less likely to be killed while on the job.

*Being a convenience store clerk is - according to statistics - more dangerous than being a cop. However despite the great service these gallant men and women provide our society, their pay is less than a third of what an officer makes.

Well you'll be happy to hear that is the case. Regardless, if that was a swipe at the police force you should know a large slice of the police force in Australia are ex-servicemen.

I can't believe that people are using this thread to attack the police force. By all accounts this cop was doing the right thing and he got attacked as a result. As has been said, I do not envy country police. In a metropolitan area there is no way this guy would have gone in without backup.

Note: I should add that Australian soldiers only get paid more whilst deployed. If they're in Australia they get paid less.

Well let’s look at the number of cops in the world vs. the number of noncops.
I would say that the numbers would speak for themselves and it would be obvious. I don’t know any perfect person in the world. That means there are more bad average people than there are bad cops. You can look at any city and find more drug dealers, thieves, and child abusers than you can find bad cops in the department.

Now if you want to look at things in the percentile range I would say it is about even or possibly a percent more to the cop’s side of it. But just numbers alone will be leaning toward the average person side.

Is there a study for this? Of course not, but common sense is a good enough judge.

But really it does not matter to some. Regardless if the cops is in the right or the wrong some people will hate and talk trash on the police. If I wanted to do a little searching for numbers I could show that there are fewer cops than “other” people. It is all about numbers as percentage will show you have bad people in all walks of life. I know people who work in factories that have been convicted of child molestation, beating a spouse, DUI, you name it. I also know there are people at Wal Mart who have been convicted of stealing. Makes no different the career you are in if you are a bad person you are still going to be a bad person unless you make the choice to change.

I do have to say on this occasion, what happened to this police officer is shocking and disgusting. And I for one is quick to criticise the police if they have done something wrong or abused thier power off authority.

This brutal attack attack has no justification what so ever. I hope he recovers, and those who committed this brutal attack are brought to justice.

Thats horrible

Did what was "right" in the line of duty, even with bad odds. I mean 4 cops against 80 "lunatics". That's very brave.

It's a ungrateful job really. We should be happy some people will handle it.
Just imagene how things would be, if there were no police

Depending on what side of the fence you are...Hate them or love them (they never ask to be loved or hated.btw)
With or without them. With or against them..Does not justify what happened to that cop.
I wish for a good recover...

Well thank goodness you made it clear that your not very bright and simply are here to bash cops or anyone trying to understand them. My point has PLENTY of relevance, especially since YOU never made it clear what your employment status was or how you stood financially! So there is no ignorance on my part as you try and point out....sorry but it appears you had yet another epic fail trying to bash people rather than debate...

As to your store clerk comparison...it is a dangerous job in some areas, I will agree, but the job itself is no where near as demanding as a police officer. Physically and Mentally a clerk will NEVER experiance in 50 years what a cop does in 10, so again I will have to disagree with you.

Last i checked cops had guns, crowds of people know what gun shots sound like, maybe fire a few rounds into the ground or pointed at an angle in the sky.

What goes up must come down, bullets hurt. Don't shoot straight up.

The cop should of done a numbers count before hand, but ignorance isn't an excuse, he didn't think, just reacted and he paid for it.

No good deed goes unpunished.

Uhh, bad idea. Cops cannot just go around shooting “warning shots” they must account for every time their weapon is fired.

Yes everything that goes up must come down. Even if fired at an angle the bullet can still come down and wound or kill someone, firing into the ground could result in a ricochet result in injury or death. You never know what is just below the surface of the dirt, and you certainly do not want to shoot into pavement or cement.
