Except that priests can absolve your sins and in some cases the pope can make a judgment that has to be considered good in the eyes of God, no matter what. Do you have those privileges? Those do not sound like any human privilege I know of.

I was a practicing Catholic. I am now an agnostic. However, I certainly will not get more accurate information about my former religion by going to town halls much less googling about it.

I can only beg that you read the document again. It does not reconcile with what you are saying at all. This letter is not about offering a podium to the suspected victims and ensuring the rights of the accused. This is about them saying "If you do not press charges, we will make sure he is gone." People shut up and he gets new victims.

By gold I meant monetary wealth not actual gold as in the element... as for spawning artisans, the artisans where already there... the church just had the money to commission them and fund their church orientated work and projects. The fact you had a church using wealth plundered from other countries along with its own people to fund artwork to adorn its religious palaces and venerate its leaders has gotta sit badly with most people just on principle. All the great architecture of the world was done by artists who followed their religious leaders desires... the Church built nothing, the artists did and they where nothing but worshipers... if the church never existed they'd still have been built just for different reasons. The communist and socialist uglies where also made at a far different time with a completely different aesthetic behind them... most of the work that adorns places like the vatican are from a period where the style didnt change all that much, and anything recent was designed to fit into the established look.

Some of the tombs the popes of centuries past had constructed for them before they died where expensive to the point of being almost sickeningly materialistic constructions, which just doesnt sit with what the christian religion was supposed to be, considering alot of the artists did it from fear (who'd refuse a man more powerful than the kings themselves) or thought that in doing so they got kudos from god. The catholic churchs vatican is mostly an old relic of a time when it was a symbol of the churchs center of power in a hostile world where religion was more powerful than politics and a way of thinking where it was seen as I guess 'heaven on earth' where gods representative resided in his glittering heaven, it was purely to impress the devoted plebs and make your enemies jealous or intimidated... now days (and even back centuries ago) its just obscene really, given the life of the man whos teachings the church was supposedly founded on who was basically an ascetic at his roots... the meek will inherit the earth as they say, which isnt anyone in the vatican I assure you.

That is my dislike of the Pope, since hes basically the human symbol of it all, who has the power to basically stop it, but doesnt, but hey who wouldnt when your living in your own city palace... good way of keeping the guys at the top in toe really. i got nothing against the catholic Church, but every thing against the Vatican.

Edit:- Dont really see this thread going anywhere so ill bow out, most of us have our views and they aint gonna be swayed by others, best to agree to disagree and shake hands, the events over and everything's back to normal, popes fine and nothings gonna change... at least we can talk about it here and voice our opinions, and we dont get burned as heritics or traitors to the church like we once would have... thats progress at least

There are 350 men working for the safety of the Pope: only outside of St. Peter there are approx. 140 Italian carabinieri and police guards. Not to mention the dozens of metal detectors all over around the Basilica. But all this is useless if the second filter, the one closer to the Pope, won't work.
The second filter is composed by about a hundred guards of Vatican gendarmerie. Plus the Swiss Guards, the Pope's personal army always sticking close to him. But if one is in religious garb, then hardly will get under any type of check.

After skimming through these messages, I'm shocked not one person has mentioned the prophecies of Malachy. Almost 1000 years ago this Irish Catholic predicted the current Pope would be the last and usher in the fall of the Catholic church and the second coming of Christ. I would say this woman has sincere beliefs in religion and wants to bring an end to the Catholic church which has been a blight on the world since it's inception. Malachy also apparently predicted the day and location of his death. fyi.
