I have to say right out that I can't confirm this other than the one site that
I got this info from. All other searches I did linked back to the original site.

IF this is true, I have to say that it does not really surprise me.

The article says that the White House Christmas tree has ornaments that feature Chairman Mao, a trans-gender celebrity and Obama's face gracing Mt Rushmore.

Why let a holiday season come between the White House and making some political statements? The White House pegged controversial designer Simon Doonan to oversee the Christmas decorations for the White House. Mr. Doonan, who is creative director of Barney’s New York has often caused a stir with his design choices. Like his naughty yuletide window display of Margaret Thatcher as a dowdy dominatrix and Dan Quayle as a ventriloquist’s dummy. For this year’s White House, he didn’t disappoint.

biggovernment.com...

The article has pics of these supposed ornaments but they don't name the source.
Perhaps they were taken by a disgruntled (or disgusted) WH staffer?

You can see the pics of the ornaments at the link.

Mao's looking like a little trollop, with all that rouge and eyeshadow. Didn't Mrs. Tsetung teach him? Whores use rouge; ladies pinch.

Perhaps they want to give him a more metrosexual image these days. lol
After all, being a communist apparently is "in" these days.

You're really straining hard to attribute political motive to this, aren't you? Basically this is a guy who comes in, lampoons something about the administration currently in office, and everyone has a chuckle.

Though I really could have done without the idea of seeing Margaret Thatcher as a dominatrix. Gyugh

Not really. That was just a throw away second line.
But, it does go to show that he does not have respect for
the office or the traditions of the office. Some will say that if true,
they have several trees in the WH and maybe they (the Obama's) don't
even know about it. That doesn't cut it either. They should be aware of
what is going on because it represents them and the office of the Presidency.

EDIT to clarify the "he" I am referring to is Obama, not the designer
of the ornaments.

Then neither did Reagan. Or Bush Sr.

Or did you miss the part making fun of Reagan's fascist British nanny, or Bush's Veep?

"OMG A DEMOCRAT!" - get over it already, and let's all have a chuckle at Mao wearing enough makeup to make Tammy Fae seem understated.

Sorry, but I really don't find it funny. And, where did you see anywhere
in my posts about democrats?

Those other "designs" by Doonan are not on the tree. Read it again.
Those were past "creations".
It shows lack of class and lack of respect to have those kind of ornaments
on the WH tree. Tax payer money is paying for this so as a tax payer I
have a right to my opinion of it.
So there. ;p

As gullible as I am from time to time, I don't believe these claims. Uh, wait. I am gullible. Oh, crap. I don't believe these claims. Maybe I am gullible in this case.

It's true! It's true! I am so gullible I don't believe it.

Ornaments are not political issues. If you believe they are then you really must find a hobby or something. Its a version of the Andy Warhol print that's been glued into a collage. Its not political, its pop art.

What would you be saying if there was Marilyn Monroe? How about Muhammad Ali? Or a can of soup? Or Warhol's self-portrait? Georgia O'Keefe? Wayne Gretzky? An ornament with a pop art print of a communist leader wouldn't be considered "in" for any leftist reason, it would be considered "in" because its a departure from traditional ornaments. Warhol would love his art on Obama's tree, he'd have already done thousands of prints of Obama since Warhol made much of his art be liked celebrities.

Representation? If they had an ornament with Dali on it would that make people think the president is living in a fantasy world? How about Kandinsky, would people think he likes Russia?

It is simply the integration of a highly recognizable pop culture icon (apparently the theme was art judging by the pictures) rather than a nod at socialism or communism like some political pundits and disinfo agents would like people to believe.
Check and mate. Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year.
