Xe aims for a piece of expanding Afghan contracts

As the United States builds up its military presence in Afghanistan, private contractors are flocking there in even greater numbers. And Xe, the company formerly known as Blackwater, is in the hunt to get a share of the new work.

According to a report last week from the Congressional Research Service, there were about 64,000 uniformed U.S. troops in Afghanistan in September and 104,101 military contractors - 62 percent of the Defense Department work force there.

Those figuers were kind of impesive to me. There is almost twice as many civilian conracters in Afghanstan then there are military. We all know that it is the corporations who benefit from the wars, and it seems this is one way in which they are doing it. The article goes on to say that the thirty thousand or so more troops going in might bring in fifty six thousand more civilians.

I think what people need to realize is mercenaries have been used in WAR and other situations for a LONG time....it is nothing new. The grand scale of it is what has people gasping...the sheer numbers of mercs is obviously higher than ever...but that stems from WAR being dirtier than ever and those in charge of declaring it/or not declaring it, are willing to pay $$$$ to anyone up for doing their dirty work....
