Recent decisions by the EU Court of Human Rights have been creating controversy and stirring resistance from EU member states angry at the international body’s intrusion into their internal affairs.

Italy School Crucifixes “Barred”

The European Court of Human Rights has ruled against the use of crucifixes in classrooms in Italy.
It said the practice violated the right of parents to educate their children as they saw fit, and ran counter to the child's right to freedom of religion.
The case was brought by an Italian mother, Soile Lautsi, who wants to give her children a secular education.
The Vatican said it was shocked by the ruling, calling it "wrong and myopic" to exclude the crucifix from education.
The ruling has sparked anger in the largely Catholic country, with one politician calling the move "shameful".

'Italian tradition'
Many politicians in Italy have reacted angrily.
Education Minister Mariastella Gelmini said the crucifix was a "symbol of our tradition", and not a mark of Catholicism.
One government minister called the ruling "shameful", while another said that Europe was forgetting its Christian heritage.

Ireland is also coming under fire, as a case against Ireland’s Constitutional definition of life as beginning at conception is brought before the EU Court of Human Rights.

Ireland’s Abortion Laws Challenged in EU Court

The Irish Republic's strict abortion law is being challenged in the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.
The legal action has been brought by three Irish women who say the effective ban on abortion in Ireland violates the European Convention on Human Rights.
All three have travelled to Britain to have abortions.
The Irish government has engaged two leading lawyers to argue its case that the country has a sovereign right to protect the life of the unborn.

Abortion is illegal in Ireland, a deeply Catholic country, unless the life of the woman is in danger.
The Irish constitution was amended in 1983 to include the "Pro-Life Amendment", which asserted that the unborn child had an explicit right to life from conception.
The case is the first challenge to Ireland's abortion laws in more than 15 years, the BBC's Europe correspondent Jonny Dymond says.

Italian Supreme Court Decision Signals Sovereign Resistance to European Overreach

(NEW YORK – C-FAM) A little-publicized decision by Italy's Constitutional Court last month may have significant implications concerning the direction of Europe, strengthening national sovereignty as a bulwark against transnational overreach by European institutions. It also signals the continued importance of national constitutions, despite the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty earlier this month.

In Sentenza N. 311, the Italian Constitutional Court stated that where rulings by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) conflict with provisions of the Italian Constitution, such rulings "lack legitimacy." Sources close to the Italian judiciary told the Friday Fax that the decision was intended as a warning that activist rulings by the Strasbourg-based ECHR overstepping jurisdictional boundaries will not be given deference.

Sources point to the timing of the decision, which followed an early November ECHR ruling, Lautsi v. Italy, directing that crucifixes be removed from the Italian classroom. The Italian government is appealing that decision to the full Grand Chamber.

Kiska also notes that the ECHR recently heard arguments in the case A, B, & C v. Ireland, which involves a direct challenge to Ireland's constitutional protection of unborn life. The Italian court decision could embolden Ireland's Supreme Court in the event of an adverse decision.
Underlying the debate is the question of what role "subsidiarity" will play in post-Lisbon Europe. Subsidiarity is the notion that decisions are best made at the local level closest to the people affected by them, guaranteeing that national norms and values will not be overrun by top-down-dictates

Even here in the USA, some states are starting to awaken to Federal overreaching and are asserting their sovereignty.

State Sovereignty Movement

In a dramatic break from the status quo, seven states of the Union have officially declared their intention to enforce the Constitution against the central government. The goal is to reestablish state sovereignty and federalism (the principle that the states and the federal government have separate powers and authority independent of each other), which has been curtailed by federal forces and Congress.

ARIZONA:
"The House and Senate concurring: 1. That the State of Arizona hereby claims sovereignty under the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States over all powers not otherwise enumerated and granted to the federal government by the Constitution of the United States.

2. That this Resolution serves as notice and demand to the federal government, as our agent, to cease and desist, effective immediately, mandates that are beyond the scope of these constitutionally delegated powers...

Your state isn't on this list? Then it's time to act, at last. Call your local gun-rights group, or legislators, and demand a state-protection act this year! The more states that do, the more pressure we can legitimately bring to halt federal erosion of our rights. Do it before gun-ban laws reach the floor of Congress, like, before tomorrow.

I hope the movements, both here and in Europe have success in restoring their sovereignty from the NWO menace.

Don't know how much good it will do for the Italians, The Libson treaty makes it pretty clear it will usurp all national constitutions come 2010.

The agreement also purports to give the European Court of Justice the power to rule on national laws to ensure their compatibility with EU law. (This is the same Court that claimed to outlaw criticism of the EU.) European courts ruled decades ago that European laws trump national laws, but now it’s official. The Constitution put it bluntly: “The Constitution and law adopted by the Union institutions in exercising competence conferred upon it by the Constitution shall have primacy over the law of the member states.”

the thing is..irland only agreed to enter the EU if they got special rights regarding abortion and a few other things....if this gets thrown out at the first hurdle then i can see the irish demanding they leave the EU...this may also spill over into other countries...god i hope so...

Do you think the NWO would fight to preserve the union? Who would play the part of Lincoln?
