I Wonders why the Scientific and Technological Developments in 2000s Decade are Concentrated on High-tech Consumer gadgets like cellphone and iPods
for Civilians and Guided Bombs and Missiles plus Unmanned Aerial Vehicles(mostly Predator drones) for Military ones?
Consumer gadgets have been in the forefront more and more since the 60's and they've reached the point where they're quite an economic force. There
was a time not that
long ago(By my perspective anyway) that not everyone owned a color TV, when TVs were considered appliances and B&W TVs were
still available, when cell phones didn't exist, when they were a bulky status symbol, to the point where for many people they're a way of life. The
technological boom became more gadget oriented years ago but accelerated in the 90's. The 2000's have just been a continuation of that evolution.
Many of these gadgets have almost become disposable as people fairly regularly change them out for the newest, smallest, fastest, latest, etc.
Military technology has always been a focus and some consumer technology has derived from military advances.
Despite the Global warming fear is put to the extreme by Al Gore in 2003 why there is no significant progress in climate change other than
It depends on what you consider progress. There have been efforts to implement different technologies in an attempt to be more environmentally
friendly but some of those technologies aren't completely practical at this time. Better mousetraps aren't always built overnight. Neither solar or
wind power are new ideas but they have shortcomings and logistical issues that can't always be overcome. That doesn't mean the effort isn't being
made but it isn't easy to change a system that is so widely in use and so central to our society. For what it's worth, "green" products have gone
from a niche market to a core marketing strategy in a fairly short period of time.
if this isn't enough why More Important Discoveries like Confirmation of Intelligent life elsewhere and High-Tech Ancient Civilizations as
well more advanced "sci-fi" technologies are suppressed?
Confirmation of intelligent life would be great but I can't say it's key to human existence unless we found out they were out there and ready to
come and destroy us. It would be good to know has long as they are "E.T." Otherwise, we may not want to know.
We have knowledge of ancient civilizations that were fairly advanced compared to what we may have previously thought but the earth is a big place and
many discoveries are accidental. If there is evidence of a high tech ancient civilization maybe we will find it one day. Maybe there was one in the
distant past that we will never find evidence of because that evidence deteriorated naturally over time. Materials common to our knowledge today
degrade over time if buried so if there were an ancient HT civilization in years long past, maybe there's no evidence left or it's buried so deeply
that we won't just stumble across it..
Just some brief thoughts on your questions.
