I am curious to know how exactly the payment system works. Do they pay for safe passage on roads? or do they offer their enemy a salary that is above and beyond what the war lords in hopes they will jump ship? How do they keep track of who is paid and how can they be sure they WILL jump ship if that is the case? Their families live in the region I assume and the war lords would have eyes and ears everywhere. How likely is it that the money doesn't simply go to buying more guns and guards that will need to be paid on said roads?

I understand that for every pair of boots on the ground their are a lot of support personnel that must also be paid to keep that soldier armed and fed and such but I can't help feel that paying the enemy for safe passage in a war is not a good sign. What are they hoping for? Suppose the conflict ends and the U.S manages to stabilize Afghanistan. What happens to all the weapons bought and stockpiled by this protection money? Whats stopping them from simply waiting until the dust settles before they take back the country with said arms and another bundle of cash to persuade locals into the cause?

It feels like, to me, this will simply lead to a circle of war and money exchanges.

How long can tax payers in the U.S support that? How will they track the efficacy of this plan?

War is madness.

Cheers

I do agree with a lot of what you said. I do not belive he will be impeached, as I believe he was "installed".

I do find it rather interesting though, that the democrats have already begun an investigation, and news of this is coming *way* after the fact.

I do agree we should have never been there in the first place, and that we should have brought the troops home after Obama was elected. It just goes to show that he is on the same boat as Bush was, and he has now made Bush's agenda his.

I am still not so convinced Bin Laden is dead, but I am also not so certain how much he is in play now, either.

What I don't get is why this "financing" wasn't routed through the CIA, as it always has been in the past?

Exactly! You hit all the nails on the head that I was outlining. We are basically paying them to continue this war!

By paying them, they buy more arms and ammo and in turn continue to kill us. Ho would they not have seen this would have been the outcome?

It seems almost elementary to me.

Edit for typo, my keyboard is dying

Hm. That's a very good question.

That could lead me to all sorts of conspiracy related theories!

We also have to be careful that if or when Obama gets impeached that he/she who replaces him isn't part of the Clinton/Bush crime family or part of the two party system for that matter. As much as I dislike Obama, I fear Hillary Clinton more.

Care to provide some "facts" behind Osama being killed? Im willing to bet you cant do that, yet you say it is indeed a fact, id be more careful.

Theories dont count as fact....no wonder people are buying into the global warming "fact" its that line of thinking that leads people down the wrong road.

Point is, you dont know whats fact, and just because YOU think its a fact doesnt make it so, im not attacking you im just pointing out the obvious.

FACT the earth is round(ish) thats a fact
FACT there are 50 states, thats a fact

See what i mean?

Well I have to say welcome to the real world. Some would say that the difference between bribery in the West and bribery in a developing country is that the money trail is more sophisticated in the former.
When I worked in Africa running the office for an aid project, I remember asking my boss if we had a financial code for 'bribe'. It ran through all levels in society - from getting your goods cleared for import to getting your vehicles taxed.
Afghanistan is particularly feudal. Who really thought that America and its cohorts could go in and change society just like that? It takes time, Meanwhile, I'm afraid the words 'accommodate' and 'compromise' will apply. I don't much care for Obama, but using this as a stick to beat him with is just plain silly. However I should imagine he is well protected. I think those who would remove him are just grasping at straws.

Let's just leave Obama alone. He's doing a fine job and I hope he keeps it up.

He's doing more to awaken the American public to the far Left's Socialist agenda than I ever thought possible. He is doing more to unite the American people against this agenda, than any President I have ever seen. Keep up the good work Barack! I'm counting on you. Besides we have a good idea of what we've gotten with Obama, we have no idea what Biden will pull.

I don't know how this is leaving the door wide open for impeachment.

This system of paying our tax dollars to the Afghan people we are fighting to not attack us while we transport resources was not set up by the Obama Administration.

It has probably been the way we've done things in the Middle East since the gulf war.

I don't agree with this @!$%@#!!! How is it that our enemies get 2.1 billion and all we the tax payer face is more rescticted rights to freedom.

HOW IS IT WE CAN BLOW 100+ BILLION ON 2 WARS AND NOT EVEN SPEND HALF THAT ON EDUCATION!!!!

If there is anything anyone in the government should be impeached for it would be denying americans the best education possible and blowing OUR money on whatever he BLANK the military wants to do.

I agree with you.

They beat the birth certificate to death...they get laughed at for calling him a communist/socialist/Nazi...they can't play the race card...SO, now they are going to start up the "Impeachment Movement"...

It will never end...

They might as well suck it up and get ready for 7 more years of BO.

The way the polls are tanking, I do not see him getting another term. People that voted for him are even beginning to wake up and say this is not the change they had in mind.

That aside, though, I would have high hopes on someone that did pull us out of there, and we did spend more time at home, working on things within our own house, and not warrying so much over what other countries are doing.

If it were not for that pipeline, I seriously do not believe we would be there, except for the fact that Pakistan is a nuclear nation. But I really don't see us worrying so much over that as we are the oil.

If it were simply over the nukes, we would be more apt, IMO, to supply military as a defense, rather than as an offense, I suppose more along the lines of how we have some troops still in South Korea. Like, as a deterrent.

I definitely feel like we have been lied to and mislead, not just by Bush, but by this administration as well.

The thing I cannot get over is how some things that are clearly illegal and unacceptable in certain moral circles are just slapped in our faces.

Kind of like paying off Landreau (sp?) for her vote on the Health care bill. It was just open, and in your face payoff. And they don't care what people *think* of them.

That gets me the most, I think. She said she does it for her state, but really, how much of that 300million lines her pockets now?

I used to think that, but I don't think she would have done some number of things that have happened in the past year. I think she would have had somewhat more of a modicom of reason on spending. The thing is, we would have probably screamed louder if she had spent one tenth of what Obama has. How ironic is that?

Why? Because there are HUGE profits to be made from war. Such is not the case for education. You can be sure if there was a way to make the same kinds of money in education they'd be tripping all over one another to fund education programs.

This very small beer compared to Bush's crimes. He wasn't impeached, so I'm sure Obama won't be.

That is a very valid point, and one so obvious.

What does that say for us as a country? We are called capitalist pigs by other nations, but it is beyond that, it is now going to pure greed. Now people are openly just holding out their hands and taking what they can get for their own purposes.

The problem with this whole Taliban payoff thing is, why would they think for even a moment they can *trust* them?

Just as the truck drives past with their supplies, trust me, the money gets handed to the warlords al the while laughing at our backs. Not only that, but then they know where we are heading, and can just meet us on the flip side with a bullet to the head.

Well, I suppose you could be right, but then, a lot of what is about Bush is not so documented, but suspicions, there would have to be real proof. I am all for pushing it if there is solid proof.

For this, you already have Hillary confirming the statements. Also, consider this has been going on for some time, without any press on this. Her statement was from Dec. 2. I think there is something to that.

I agree, but if you also agree he was "installed", then the real question would become, will they allow it to happen, and if so why?

As I have pointed out in other posts, this has apparently been going on for some time now, and we are just hearing about it.

Has something gone wrong with their "installation"? It has piqued my curiosity on several levels, because if TPTB allow it to happen, then something has gone wrong, OR, they are done with him.

True, but who puts any weight into polls with 3 years to go until the next election. Hell, poll numbers swing back and forth all the time.

Only time will tell...but I can say that I don't see anyone else in the national spotlight that can take Obama down in the 2011 elections.
