Iran agrees to nuclear fuel swap, with caveats

MANAMA, Bahrain – Iran is ready to exchange the bulk of its stockpile of enriched uranium for nuclear fuel rods — as proposed by the U.N. — but according to its own mechanisms and timetable, the foreign minister said Saturday.
The minister's remarks come just days before an expected meeting between the U.S. and allies to discuss new sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program. The offer, however, falls far short of the conditions set by the international community.

So has the Iran nuclear issue been solved now or could this be a delaying tactic on the part of Iran , knowing that more sanctions are around the corner ?

Seem to me that the war drums were beating for so long I find it difficult to believe that this is the end of the cries to bomb Iran . I guess we will have to wait to see how this story is spun by our fearless leaders .

Who cares what they say anymore about pretend deals, and what the war-cryers say either.

Let them collapse over the Dec-Jan 2010 student opposition protests that are going to finish them off completely - that's the biggest issue for the regime to deal with. Watch out for them to desperately start blowing things up and blaming protestors, or even Israel for it. Israel aren't stupid enough to give a collapsing regime a rope to hang onto, as they've even openly stated only last week that the Iranian govt. has no legitimacy in the eyes of Iranian's. Israel know it's just a watching and waiting game, and not to take any bait.

White House unhappy with Iranian nuke proposal

WASHINGTON — The White House is expressing unhappiness over Iran's announcement that it is ready to exchange uranium for nuclear fuel.

Such a deal would meet a key demand of a U.N.-sponsored effort to defuse fears over Iran's nuclear ambitions. But instead of shipping most of its uranium abroad for processing before it is returned to Tehran, Iran's foreign minister said Saturday that the material instead would be exchanged in batches.

A senior Obama administration official says that proposal is inconsistent with the U.N. plan.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the issue, urged Iran to accept the U.N. offer to help build confidence in claims that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes.

Just a minor point....

N.K. was given a light water reactor and they used the fuel rods to make nuclear weapons.

This is either another delay tactic or they will use the fuel rods for nuclear weapons.

Either case, this is not the end, but just the beginning.
