CIA tears up Blackwater contract

www.abc.net.au

The US Central Intelligence Agency has cancelled a contract with a security company formerly known as Blackwater Worldwide that allowed the company to load bombs on CIA drones in Pakistan and Afghanistan, The New York Times reported.

Hopefully this is a sign of changes within the US government in future dealings with the private military organisations. Leon Panetta was always an interesting choice for Obama; personally I hoped he would help disclosure along from the inside, but this is pretty good.

First step is try and get the CIA operations back under central control.

The disclosure about the terminated contract comes a day after The Times reported that Blackwater employees had joined CIA operatives in secret operations against suspected Islamic militants in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Lets hope its not just a reactive decision but was in the works before this time.

Nope not change, just another story to appease the masses is all, Eric Prince came out and blew the whistle on the CIA and Blackwater connection so due to politics they have to cancel the contract.

Just games is all.

I too hope that this is a good turn of events, but like Hastobemoretolife, I think that it is a publicity stunt to appease the masses. But let us pray it is the other way around. I for one do not want to end up fighting Blackwater in my own country, especially if they come to take away our guns.

I don't own any guns, but if they declare martial law, I will own some guns.

If no other contracts go to other subsidiaries I will be slightly happy about it.

War should not be subcontracted to others who have not taken the oath and don't have a vested interest in any but profit.

The article is vague and doesn't have any dates as to when they cancelled their contracts with them, which let's us know it's nothing more than damage control after yesterdays news.

ABC

The contract with the company, now called Xe Services, was cancelled this year by CIA Director Leon Panetta, the report said. CIA spokesman George Little said Panetta had ordered that the agency's employees take over the jobs from Xe employees at the remote drone bases in Pakistan and Afghanistan, the paper noted.

It looks like the CIA is just going to take over.

I can't really blame XE for what has been done. The government went to them looking for their services. They wanted something done and XE could do the job.

Is this a ploy, since they now operate under the name XE does it mean that they tore up blackwater contract but have one with XE now?

The CIA has a lot of magic tricks up their sleeves and this is one of them.

They "tore up" a contract, wow. Just like they tore up the law by going into Pakistan in the first place huh?

Blackwater was nothing more then a CIA front company.

The CIA will now just set up a new front company but this time it will be a democrat run CIA front company.

I trusted the old republican backed blackwater a lot more then a company that is democrat backed and run and is more likely to be used to disarm the American people,

That "contract" was cancelled early this year. This is old news but new to the public I guess. Xe (Blackwater 2.0) has already recieved the OK to conduct ops in Afghanistan and have elements of their teams there now. The Balkan region where the US says its gonna pull out has about 150 Xe employees there now.

I don't view this as anything more than a Panetta based "feel good" publicity stunt.

You would actually be surprised at how much good BW, and others like them, have done in OIF though. I have actually witnessed a few instances where they saved some US Army Infantrymen during ambushes, not to mention their amazing protection record.

If people were ONLY interested in profit, they would never sign up to go to Iraq or Afghanistan in the first place.

So you don't like the government either way. ok.
Blackwater was not a front for the CIA. Blackwater was a contract agency like a bunch of others that Cheney employed. Blackwater was a way to do necessary things that Congress would not approve like waterboarding. Without waterboarding Kalid Shiek Mohammed would not have confessed.

Blackwater employed the best of the best who were paid well for their services. Mostly they escorted fancy government officials into the Green Zone and other dangerous places as protection.

Saleh al-Somali, the AQ . of operations outside Pak Afg was just taken out by the drones so Blackwater is taking the fall. That takes the target off the Pentagon who was hit by a commercial airplane a few years back... ummmm... on 911. Get it?

Its a 'feel good" publicity stunt for Panetta because of his lack luster performance as Director. Panetta fancys himself as a political star however since being at the CIA he has done anything but shine.

Kudos and Bravo to the CIA and whatever US admin. took this much needed rightful step. Next best thing would be start the criminal proceedings against the Blackwater and their illegal actions including arms smuggling, child prostitution within US base, providing weapons to terrorists thru arms smuggling, torture and murder. S&F.

The position isn't a political one. Sure these guys have giant egos but to pull a publicity stunt would be a giant waste of time and his collegues would laugh at him. Not a good way to build trust in the ranks of an organization that counts on that.

A publicity stunt is usually for an audience. Since the US already employs the CIA and they work for us the need for publicity isn't necessary. However, a message to the enemy or a message to a specific external group would be appropriate through MSM.

You will notice that AQ uses certain media outlets for their messages. The dropped Al Jazeera because of leaks to the West. They killed Adam Gadhan for the same reason. There are only certain MSM that are trusted. But their methods of delivery of threats differs from the US method of delivery of negotiation. Know what I mean?

Actually your wrong and off key here. Your speculating about Blackwater being an "employee" of Cheny's. The CIA performed all enhanced techniques to glean information from hostiles. Blackwater merley stood guard at the door, doing as they were told to do.

Blackwater is but one of many security contractors in the region. It made .lines but thats about it, in the sum of things they were not the best. Only the most talked about. BW loves to say they never lost anyone they were protecting however the fact is, no other security contractor lost anyone either. BW was just more noisey about that claim than others.

BW isn't taking any "fall" for any of the drone based attacks. Anyone who thinks this is the case is either out of touch or making things up for their own storylines. It is well known in the land of the Afhani who flys the attack birds...and who doesen't.

Its already been explained to you. I will not entertain anyone whose purpose is to argue a point already been made or provide an explanation to a point thats already been explained.

You may want to reconsider your view. Blackwater was indeed linked to Dick Cheney and thus Bush.

CONNECT THE DOTS - CHENEY - CIA - BLACKWATER & PAT TILLMAN

Now only a proper investigation will show what is the actual truth until then there is enough evidence which suggests Blackwater was the private death squad of Dick Cheney and White House.
