Did the Hippies already win the Culture War?

Strange, I once read that large amounts of the 1980s' Moral Majority were former hippies and activists. One often reads on the lovely "Jesus People", and I think a lot of fundamentalism (minus the "fun") grew out of a counter-culture.
I once saw a discussion on TBN on whether Christians should ever consider mass civil disobedieance to abortion or other laws. The answer from the jaded big-mouths was "no, not yet".
Why is violent confrontation so often the work of the young? Why don't we see Christian conservative moms and pops fighting with cops for what they believe? Perhaps their points are not really worth it, and simply armchair politics.

I recently saw a documentary from The History Cannel on "The Hippies". It concluded that although most of the communes dissolved, ultimately the new mores of the hippies won.
Even right-wing preachers now get away with adultery/gay-sex/drug-use on a regular basis. Shouldn't they thank "the hippies" instead of harking back to more unforgiving 1950s morals?
What is a "hippy" anyway?

The "Hippies" (in general) where founded by a counterintelligence officer that worked for the CIA also a "Dark Master" in the occult

That man's name was "Torkum Sassarian" (nothing to do with Michael Tsarion, I say this because I've had several debates about it in the past with friends).

This was way back in the day.

The Hippy Movement was a False Flag Operation. In order for everything to work, the elites need an "A.N.T.I." to every forthcoming and current objectives.

I don't think the hippies won anything...

If their youthful hippie selves could see 95% of them now that their generation is in power they would want to beat their older selves senseless.

Sold out for cash, living peacefully under a crazy war on drugs, 2 maybe soon 3 wars going on overseas. President who reigns over the greatest loss of civil liberties in us history mostly placed under Bush and hasn't dropped an iota of power or given back an inch of privacy, police and cameras everywhere, materialism gone mad...

YA

SURE

Maybe that generation is in power but they barely resemble in anyway what they stood for when young....

I can actually believe that, and also on "The Hippies" History Channel program they showed how '___' went from MK-Ultra to mass (initially legal) distribution.
Perhaps that was one influence, but feminism, communal living, gay rights, green living were not exactly new.

you may have said so...but I can't pick it out for whatever reason...

but why do you think they won?

IMHO no the hippies didn't win anything, but they sure did motivate the religious conservative right. Nixon was conservative and gave us the ATF and other big government law enforcement authoritarian mindset.

Remember folks your not a Good American unless your a christian American.

Funny how really hard drugs used in government test end up widely available among the population.

In German we have a saying: "Allte Huren machen gute Gebehts -schwestern". Translated it says in effect: "Old whores make good church-goers".
Old hippies make good fascists.
In Germany they wanted to protest the silence against the former generation's Nazism. So they came up with the equally fascist Baader-Meinhof gang.
Most of the people enforcing marijuana bans right now are former hippies. This became evident to me when I watched "Woodstock 2004" and one of the undercover cops admitted that she was at the original Woodstock.
Sadly, as many intellectuals warned at the time: the hippies would become the most fascist and dangerously conservative generation EVER!

There is a major difference between simply being a Conservative however, and being a Fascist (At least in America). It is kind of odd actually, because to be a "Liberal" in many nations around the world, means to be "Liberated" and Free, which is the original meaning behind such. However, in the United States, as well as parts of Europe, "Liberal" has come to mean "Socialist, Marxist, Communist". "Conservative" on the other hand has now come to stand for "Liberty" against overbearing Government within the U.S. Basically, a modern Conservative in the United States is more akin to a Classic Liberal, whereas the Liberal Hippies have taken on the oppressive roles of Marxist/Communist ideologues.

Imo the hippies made a LOT of ground in the 60s and 70s and we are definitely still feeling the effects of it today.

Whether or not they "won" anything is up for dispute. They had their victories on certain issues and at certain times with certain things, but I don't think anyone can deny we are still living under a lot of corruption and things that are still very anti-hippy.

Hippies have a bad name for being trash-talked by men with suits, especially from major media and government (and of course religious conservatives and the like), but were a definite cultural force to be reckoned with and I think a lot of their values are re-emerging today under often less-peaceful guises. Maybe they have really been here all along, as I suppose would make sense since hippies didn't really go anywhere anyway.

Well, even some very conservative figures are forgiven for adultery, drug use and homosexuality. Their careers go on virtually unscathed after the scandals. I doubt this forgiving attitude would have been a feature of the pre-hippy 1950s. So if anything, the moral conservatives should thank the hippies for lowering the personal standards.
If many of the conservatives were truly judged by their professed beliefs their lives would be over and finished.

Considering some posts and the extrapolation of the contemporary "left" and "right": aren't some alliances surprising ie. when Mormon fundamentalists and gays have fought to keep government out of bedrooms?
Although the 1960s were rife with potentially violent activists, the hippies were actually considered too ridiculous to study by the CIA (or so I've read).
Nowadays they are a marketing category, and some form of hippy fashion finds itself into female fashion annually.
That begs the question: what the hell is a hippy anyway? And why does the arch capitalist in The Simpsons - Mr Burns - refer to anything or anyone he doesn't like as a hippy?

This article discusses how the anti-war movement was hi-jacked, b/c, as Vladimir Lenin once said, "the best way to control the opposition is to lead it."
