LOS ANGELES — Immigration agents say they have arrested 286 people in California in what authorities call the biggest such crackdown yet in state communities.

The major sweep announced Friday was aimed at rounding up suspected illegal immigrants with criminal records.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement says more than 400 agents and local law enforcement officers conducted a three-day search.

ICE chief John Morton said in August the agency's fugitive operations teams would focus increasingly on finding immigrants with criminal records.

So what happened out in Calif??? this has traditionally been a safe heaven... Or did someone finally take the governator at his word

Interesting, finally starting some what of a crack down? About time except they also need to go after the ones without criminal records while they are at it. Well at least it's a start.

careful now... if their kids are enrolled in a public school you might be violating their civil rights...

if they really wanted to do a round up they should have done so when they had that big rally in LA... All they had to do to find them... was follow the crowd and see what van they all got in..

Okay all kidding aside.... by virtue of being an illegal immigrant they are all criminals... this is just cherry picking

The sad truth of the matter is that ACLU would be all over the government if they tried to deport children that were enrolled in school. It's ridiculous.

I know this might sound cold-hearted, but the only way I really see an end to this problem is if they come here and have kids we have to split the family up and give the kids a choice foster home or go back with your parents.

See now , here in Britain we have a serious problem with immigration . The problem is that while we welcome peaceful, open minded people, there are folks hidden amongst these folks who have criminal records , and not just records but an absolutely entrenched attitude of violence and skullduggery.
Its unfortunate that the criminal element is being allowed in, however its more of an indictment of the UK governments policy that a person can be free in the country before a thorough investigation has occured into thier history .
One must remember that problems regards to immigration are only allowed to continue because those problems are tools to keep your eyes away from the people who make your choices for you . One must keep in mind, that divided by your prejudices and anger, as a people you are more easily controled .

What a joke all they got were 286 illegals, in Cali ? Kinda like taking one flea off of an infested dog and acting like you helped the dog out.

It's all for show, they're obviously just trying to appease someone. If it was really the major sweep, or biggest crackdown they claim it to be they would have come away with at least 100 times the amount they got.

Must be long out of date.

286 machines went out in the late 1980's.
