IS G_D PUNISHING NOTRE DAME FOOTBALL FOR THE ObamaNATION?

According to Vatican II, Dignitatis Humanae, 14, a university must first be in conformity with the Catholic Church as “the teacher of truth” before it can be a true Catholic university.
Notre Dame's schism with Catholicism and descent into secularism began in 1967 in what is known as,” the Land O’Lakes Statement.” Then Notre Dame President Reverend Theodore M. Hesburgh, stated that Notre Dame University must have “autonomy and academic freedom in the face of authority of whatever kind,” ie: The Vatican.
So began the secularization of many Catholic institutions, to name a few, Notre Dame and Boston College.
Further secular pollution, was provided by Governor Mario Cuomo who lectured at Notre Dame in 1984, stating that Catholic politicians could be “personally opposed” to abortion while assisting and advancing it through public office that they held!
Then there was the perverted play,” The Vagina Monologues,” that obscenely exploited women and encouraged violence toward them!
Finally, the visitation and indoctrination of the pro-abortion socialist it self, the ObamaNATION!
Who will have the intestinal fortitude, like Bishop Thomas Tobin, to return Notre Dame to its former glory?

Well Notre Dame hasn't been relevant for quite a while, but I wouldnt mind of they get extra punished as well, just for Fat Charlie and all his hype.

No, IMO, God is not punishing Notre Dame. However, God is rewarding years of fans' support for the Univeristy of Cincinnati Bearcat football team!

The post didn't mention football at all. ND football would have been much more entertaining to talk about than Vatican and FYI - the Vagina Monologues (which I've seen BTW) is a good production...

As a college football fan, I think you are greatly mistaken.

The event you speak of was 1967. Yet, Notre Dame was still a powerhouse in the 70's.

They won a championship in 66.

In 1973, they split the AP and Coaches poll. At that time, the Coaches poll final rankings were done before the bowl games. Notre Dame went on to beat Alabama(#1 in the coaches) in the sugar bowl. AP gave them #1, and the Coaches poll no longer did their final poll before the bowl game.

They went on to win 2 more championships in 77 and 88.

The real Notre Dame glory days were back in the 40's. When they won 4 championships in 6 years. Which was an extension of 3 championships they won between 1924 and 1930. In the 30's, no championships.

So, what is the real reason Notre Dame isn't Notre Dame of old? Limited Scholarships. I am pretty sure that happened back in the 70's.

Back in the day, the top teams would give out scholarships to every good player they could find. Most of the time, the players would never play, they would recruit them mostly to keep them off the competitions team. Alabama did this back in the days of the bear and so forth.

No coincidence that the glory days of domination for both Notre Dame and Alabama ended in the 70's. It was exactly for that reason that the regulation and limitation on the number of scholarships players could get happened.

So there you go, limited scholarships is what killed Notre Dame.

That and a very vigorous academic requirement. A whole lot of college football players would take 2-4 years in So Cal or Florida and an academic regimen of phys ed and comic books vs 4 winters in South Bend and serious academic requirements. A whole lot of athletes can't qualify under ND admission standards even if they agreed to come there.

Shooting themselves in the foot Big Time with coaching hires since Lou Holtz left hasn't helped.

The next coach in South Bend is most likely Brian Kelly, who was oh so close this year to coaching Cincinnati in the national championship game. Is that good? I'm not so sure. The same people who told me Weiss was definitely not the answer when he was hired are telling me the same thing about Brian Kelly now, for some similar reasons.

Another bad omen. Gerry Faust was from a Cincinnati program, although he was a high school coach.

And since I just noticed this is in the Religion and Faith forum, I'll add - no God isn't punishing Notre Dame football. I'm beginning to think he has the Indiana University football team on some sort of double-secret probation, though. Don't even get me started on basketball, it's just too painful. Tom Crean will turn it around, of that I'm confident.

Yes, while I don't think the academic requirement is what brought them down, it is certainly something that isn't helping them come back and is an extra obstacle in itself.

I don't know about Brian Kelly. He's done some pretty good things at the schools he's been at, working with less than normal is all I really know.

That is more than weis could say, ND was his first head coaching job. His previous experience was a bill parcels assistance in the NFL.

I could be wrong, but it looks to me like Weis just couldn't recruit much at all. That or he was unable to progress the team further. Either way, he did pretty well the first 2 years with other recruits, but has tanked badly with his own recruits.

So long as they keep their paws off Saban, I'm happy(I'm Alabama fan).

I don't think there's a chance they'd go for Saban. Saban changes teams like socks. Maybe he'll stay at Alabama for awhile, but his track record would indicate he'll jump at the next shiny object waved in front of him.

Bob Stoops or Urban Meyer would be their dream hire. I don't think either of those guys is going anywhere soon. Barring a Divine Intervention for punishment and Randy Edsall slips in there, I'm 99% sure it'll be Kelly.

Nah, Saban will retire at Alabama. His daughter even goes to school at Alabama.

There is no "next level" for him anywhere else. He's in the best program in the country, and can't get what he gets at Alabama from any other school. Not to say there aren't good programs, but Alabama is the only school in the country that will match his passion for perfection.

He always moves up in his changes.

Toledo, to Defensive Cordinator in the NFL.

Back to head coach at Michigan St - a step up from Toledo for sure, and a step up from a Cleveland NFL team as well.

Then he goes from there, to LSU. LSU isn't bad, but still it's not a premier job in college football. He goes to Miami, doesn't care for it and ends up in Alabama, a premiere program.

He can create a legacy in Alabama. He can become a legend. To restore a program back to the status it was under the Bear, and to possible do even better is something that would make him a Legend. Everyone knows the Bear, Alabama fan or not.

The last guy who thought he could do better than Alabama was Bill Curry. Now there is a good joke.

No other school really offers anything close to those kinds of things. Notre Dame is about the only school that even comes close.

You're right about the shiny thing, but I don't see what could possibly be more shinny.

Alabama is definitely a choice assignment. In addition to Notre Dame, I'd argue that so is Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Tennessee, and Texas. Throw Penn State in there, too. I'd include USC, but there are too many other places in southern Cal to split attention. If you're a winner at a place like Alabama, Nebraska, or Oklahoma, you're the focus of the state. Tennessee, Texas, Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State have some competition for attention, but they're football mad areas. Notre Dame has the national Catholic following.

At any of those places, if you win you're revered above mortal men and can write your own ticket for almost anything. But you better win, and do it fast.

I'm looking forward to the Alabama/Texas game Jan 7. Ought to be a good one.
