THE vaccine against the pandemic H1N1 virus is expected to be incorporated into the seasonal flu jab in about six months.

The World Health Organisation is developing the combination vaccine in time for the Southern Hemisphere's mid-year winter, now that the virus has dug in.

Communicable Disease Centre director Leo Yee Sin, disclosing this on Friday, noted that the current seasonal flu vaccine is a cocktail of three influenza viruses - the A/H3N2 virus, the B virus and the seasonal A/H1N1 virus. The last-mentioned virus is different from the pandemic H1N1 now prevailing.
