This morning, Gordon Brown has announced that he will be saving cash by steadily moving almost all Government services to be accessible only ONLINE. Amongst the first will be welfare payments and making tax returns.

1. Is someone who is poor and homeless likely to own a computer? And if they do not and have to go to qn Internet Cafe, how will they pay for time there? One almsot wonders if his plans to put welfare payments online will mean that the poor won't actually receive any money, they'll just get a jpeg of the notes and coins they would have received otherwise.

2. What about old people or partially sighted who might not be able to operate a computer?

3. Over the years, Brown has announced various plans to control the Internet net. Included in this have been law passed recently which mandates internet providers to keep record of exactly what sites their users have access - hence forcing people into a system where their whereabouts can vbe strictly monitored.

4. INcreasingly in the UK, to get a job, you have to have a bank account. Hence, the UK is heading to a position where it is mandated by law that for tax reasons, you will have to do business with some fast buck bank who'll charge an arm and a leg just to be able to comply with the law. What a fabulous scam for the banks!

5. And WOW! Forcing everyone's tax online... what a gift for the hackers!

1) Libraries give free access to the net...
2)OLd people dont pay tax in the sense they dont have tax forms to fill in. And i have no doubt they still be operators to help the old anyway all they need to do is ring up. same with partially sighted people.
3)unless u think of committing a crime through the use of the net why do I care if they know who i been in contact with. I have nothing to hide in that sense. I still goto porn sites book escorts through the net......
4) It is true regarding having bank accounts but you can still refuse them or heres the clincher use an Islamic bank at least they dont to try to rob you like other banks in fact they have more ethics in where their money goes into investment....

Oh and hacking???? what stopping people hacking your bank accounts right now or hacking into police computers or when u pay for stuff online using credit cards.....

I was going to post something about getting hacked, but I see now that you mentioned that.
Its like putting a big target on themselves. Hackers stealing welfare, tax money...man, the list could go on.

Poor people worry about food, not checking their email.

You have to obtain a bank account to have a job? I know plenty of people that save cash stashed in their house. I did it for years, to avoid paying checking fees.

Is this really real?

Indeed they do, my old mum can barely use the remote control for the TV, let alone hobble to the nearest library while lakes fall out of the sky, and an migrant on minimum rate that barley speaks English helps himself to her ID.

This is yet another complete idiotic load of bollocks from an unelected Muppet planning his next scam.

Muppet!

My grandmother has never even seen a laptop computer. I cannot imagine her trying to use one.
It would be like getting drunk and explaining physics to my cat. No one would benefit from the conversation.

UNTRUE - What's o stop a stalking, homicidal ex-husband from getting a public sector job and then waiting for his batteered ex-wife to sign on?

THIS IS A STALKER'S CHARTER and is a savage blow against battered women.

Why would it be an immigrant ( i guess that's what you mean?) who doesn't speak English that steals your mums money?

What does this thread have to do with race or immigration at all?

UNTRUE - SUppose you are like me, a British citizen and screenwriter, living in Canada, who sells screenplays to production companies in the UK? I have UK earnings that have to be reported, but as I live outside the UK I cannot open a UK bank account.

I was referring to the insanity of our current Gov policies and I made no mention of any race of people.

Was i insinuating that a migrant is more likely to steal my mums money than a natural brit ? Well er yes a bent brit is less likely to get a job than an a bent immigrant with no checkable background.

If the gov are trying to save cash then it will go for the cheapest option which is give the job to the migrant or better still send the job abroad.

And yes I was being very sarcastic

5. And WOW! Forcing everyone's tax online... what a gift for the hackers!

1. Libraries let people go on the internet for free and for a homeless person the warmth of a library will be pretty nice.

2. Old people get given a pention, so they do not have to fill out tax forms or anything of the sort, the tax get's taken out before the money is given to them.

3. Why do you care about the government monitoring you, they are not stopping you from doing anything over the internet are they? If your into child porn it is a great way for the government to find out and tell the police, which is not exactly a bad thing is it?

4. Banks are in no position to scam people right now are they? Plus there are plenty of ethical banks who will not charge you 'an arm and a leg'

5. Hackers can hack into your bank account now and order all kinds of things online anyway, or hack into a utility company and steal your details, one more way to do it won't make much difference, besides the government has to have dozens of departments dedicated to stopping hackers, so not much more of a problem is created is it?

The government will only call you out on something online if your into something sick so the monitoring laws are fine by me, I am still going to go on porn and order pizza to other people's house through the internet, nothing changes there does it.

Here's the actual story
:
Source: BBC

The UK government has pledged to get another one million people online by 2012 as it pushes ahead with moving the majority of its services onto the web.

It has announced a £30m cash injection for UK online centres, set up nine years ago to provide help for those without internet access.

The government wants to get "the majority" of its services online in the next five years, Gordon Brown said.

The idea is to make all these services available online, and to hhelp more poeple make use of the online facility - saving money in the long term.

There is no suggestion whatsoever of such services being exclusively online.

I already do my tax return online. It's so much quicker and easier

Thanks for the link.

"Gordon Brown said: "Our aim is - within the next five years - to shift the great majority of our transactional services to become online only"

That sounds pretty exclusively online to me

Gordon Broon is certainly forging ahead with his online dream.
In the pre-budget report announced earlier in the month, the cahncellor stated that they'd be pushing ahead with a tax on current broadband users, at the rate of £0.50 a month. The idea behind this is to provide funding to get other parts of the country on broadband internet access.

Now, maybe I am missing something here, but the providers are private companies - British Telecom and other Cable service providers -so why is taxpayer money being used to pay for the infrastructure so that these providers can get their services to a wider audience? Surely it should be up to the service providers to put in the infrastructure, NOT other customers? In essence, the current broadband users are being told to subsidise private industry.

Ok, it's not a lot of money, only £6 a year for all the current broadband users, but multiply that number by a few million and it turns out a nice little income.
Gordon won't be happy until we are all chipped, paying for goods with a fingerprint and acting like good little subservient drones.
