US prosecutors have charged a Chicago man with involvement in the deadly Mumbai (Bombay) attacks of a year ago.

David Headley is said to have helped identify targets for the assaults which left 174 people dead, including nine gunmen.

He had already been accused with another man of plotting to attack a Danish newspaper over cartoons that caused outrage in the Muslim world.

First time i've heard of this. Quite scary really...

And then in the same report it says:

US prosecutors said they had also unsealed charges against a retired Pakistani military major, Abdur Rehman Hashim Syed, for participating in the conspiracy to attack the Danish newspaper and its employees.

So the attacks may have come from someone high up in the hierarchy or Pakistan too?

This is deep i think.

Indian intelligence agencies along with Mumbai Police are probing if David Coleman Headley, who is currently in FBI custody, was in touch with the masterminds of the Laskhar-e Taiba (LeT) and if he attended any of the training camps the ten Pakistan-based terrorists went through for the 26/11 terror strikes.

According to the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Headley and Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a Canadian citizen of Pakistani origin, were in touch with senior LeT operatives and other top terrorists in Pakistan, including Ilyas Kashmiri, a terrorist with links to Al-Qaeda and the Harkat-ul-Jihad Islami (HUJI), a Pakistan-based terrorist outfit.
