Well from your statement, I gather you have never "connected" with an animal. I have owned several cats and dogs in my forty years. I can tell you that everyone of them could understand what I was saying to them. Some much more than others. As a small child I would run the woods behind our house with the my dog "Ledo" , and he would interact with me. Whether we were just sittin and listening to the wind in the trees or we were making a fort. He was always right there with me, like another kid.
I also, had a boxer "Roxanne", it got to the point where I didn't even have to speak, I would just look at her in a way she just understood. I can't explain it, It just happened
Oh and the "humping thing" you spoke of, if I am not mistaken, when a dog does that it's a show of dominance over you. That's prob. why you never connected with a dog, they owned you.

Do you think I might be an empath? Also, how could I work on extending my abilities to calm someone else? I don't even think about influencing emotions, I just do it subconsciously, but how could I do it consciously?

I wouldn't be so quick to explain away all this guys statements. He doesn't sound like an average kid to me at all.
I wonder why you are trying to invalidate this young man? First you say "we are all special" and then you tell him that he sounds normal.
This idea that "we're all just so special" sounds like some kind of psycho-babel intended to bolster one's self-esteem.
This kid's migraine headaches are certainly not normal, and his ultra-sensitivity to other people's emotions is also not "normal."
Please, this is ATS, where the unusual is to be explored, and if people want to invalidate this kid so quickly, without even asking more questions to see how he can be helped, that seems to violate the whole thrust of this site.

Hi mossme89. Yes, it certainly appears as though you have some empathic abilities.
I am in the business of psychology, and sometimes am called upon to make assessments of people very quickly. There are situations in which this can be urgent, and decisions, at least temporary ones, must be made very quickly. Consequently, I have deliberately expanded my empathic abilities. I worked on it. I made it happen. It has served me well.
Yours seems to have developed on it's own, or you inherited it. This is something you can build on and use, or let die if you wish.
I have read of people who feel the emotion's of others so strongly, they have a difficult time going into crowed places. They feel so bombarded with emotions they become uncomfortable and have to leave.
I personally never experience anything like that. It is a tool I use by focusing on someone, usually in a one-on-one setting, or sometimes must do so in a chaotic situation. I can call it up. Sometimes a person's feelings, if they are very intense, will "jump out at me", and I don't care for that. I'd rather be in control. But when this happens the person is experiencing very intense feelings, and is usually psychotic, I've come to see. When it happens with a person who is very actively having a psychotic break, it makes me very, very uncomfortable, and I will generally leave the room a couple of minutes to "break the connection". I personally can avoid the "reconnect" (usually, not always) by not making eye contact with them again. It's the eye contact that does it for me.
But this will be what you make of it. I don't consider it "paranormal", or anything of that nature. It is what it is, and can be helpful in helping others.
If the ability doesn't get out of control, and you don't come to hate it, you might want to consider going into one of the helping professions. It gives you a slight edge, but of course other acquired tools through study and experience must be engaged as well.

You area powerful being... My friends, the little green fluff elves told me so. Or was that lint? Never knew, but anyway if you use your big huge head you will be able to teleport into the world of warcraft where you belong. Ive a orc shaman who can help you get buffed with his totems.
Wow... that was totally uncalled for. Just how small is it anyway dude?
Wow... a sarcastic comment followed by a reference to the guy having a small penis. Very mature and so called for...? How old are you anyway dude, your picture screams 40's but your words say 15's.

At 16, even since i was 3 or 4, I've always felt "different" than my peers. As a result I have struggled socially. I have had constant ups and downs. The last few months have been a spiritual awakening for me, as I try to find what makes me different. One thing that makes me different is that I have had a strong passion for the supernatural, even at a young age. I'm also an avid daydreamer.

i find that developing the abilities can actually help in the acquisition of worldly possessions, and i intend to do so. Helping others will happen along the way, but it is not my absolute main purpose.

it's more than an empathy...
...and you're more than a flesh and bones.
look within yourself, and you'll find the truth.
