Police 'misusing anti-terrorism powers to stop tourists taking photos'

www.telegraph.co.uk

The Section 44 power allows senior officers to designate entire areas of their police force regions as stop-and-search areas. More than 100 exist in London alone, while every British train station is covered by the order. But the exact location of the Section 44 areas is known only to the Home Office, due to fear the information could be used by terrorists.

A BBC journalist was stopped recently taking photographs of St Paul's Cathedral, while Andrew White, 33, was stopped and asked to give his name and address after taking photographs of Christmas lights on his way to work in Brighton days earlier.

Gee, now who woulda thunk it?

Gotta love it---"Stop and search zones", where authorities can just violate whomever they choose, just because you happen to be in a particular area that grants them virtually unlimited powers. Sounds almost in line with the draconian "free speech zones" that were implemented during the farcical electoral runs of our latest puppet's vying for office.

But stopping folks from taking photos? I would say that is more to do with TPTB not wanting their draconian ABUSE OF POWER to potentially be CAPTURED ON FILM, rather than it being some sort of "counter-terrorism" action.

More fascist nonsense.

They hate us for our freedoms!

They attack us because they hate us because of our freedoms

in a couple of years there will be ZERO freedoms

isn't time to ask yourselves who really hates you for your freedoms?

The key here is that the police are "abusing" their powers and, this is the clincher, the onus is on them to prove you are taking photo's that can be used for terrorism purposes.

Also, Section 44 does not prohibit photo's being taken of Police, despite what they might tell you. It only prohibits photos being taken off Military personel/installations and other strategically important sites IF that information is going to be used for terrorism purposes.

If a Police Officer asks you to stop taking photogrpahs of him, or anything else without just cause, you can refuse.

If he takes your camera and/or deletes the photo's, that is criminal damage.

Most people don't actually know their rights, so naturally bitch and whine when they here this. If you actually know your rights, you can tie these guys up in knots. Trust me, I do it all the time.

Yes! And that is likely what those BEHIND these abuses of power are banking on---That the folks they are violating will be ignorant of their rights and just submit.

Glad to hear you are check-mating these thugs my brother. Hopefully more citizens will wake up and question "authority" when it begins to overstep its boundaries.

You should walk through those zones with stuff like dildos and lube stuffed into your pockets, or naked pictures of very old women, or maybe a "lemon party" or "tubgirl" pic, and let them search you.

Or maybe the goatse guy.

If you decide to do it, please post video to youtube.

Ya I have noticed this as well. I have been stopped by the police a few times in the last 4 months.. I usually carry a camera with me all the time because well... You never know when u get that kick ass picture..

Anyway they asked why I had a camera and what was I taking images of. So now I put some sick homosexual images on there and say I am a gay porn photographer or something..

Nothing like giving up your 4th amendment for the gay porn industry.
