here is a fascinating book written by Howard Bloom 15 years ago....IMO it relates to this thread idea very well.

I have found a major piece of the puzzle....>>The Cromagnons drove the Neanderthals into the swamps,forests & wastelands a long time ago & took all the prime real estate for themselves...the Neanderthals & the Neanderthal Hybrids lived a dog eat dog existance & had to resort to being predators in order to survive during the bad times...about 900 years ago the Neanderthals were given last names relating to the geographic locations where they lived...............TIME PASSES............around 1345 the Black Plague kills off 1/3 to 1/4th of the population of Europe...Farm labor becomes scarce so the Neanderthals are now allowed to become serfs...
...............................................more time goes by............................
The Industrial Revolution starts and some of the Neanderthals & Neanderthal Hybrids move to the cities & take factory jobs....In the cities they are introduced to gambling,gin,whiskey,prostitution and crime....Some of them fall back on the old ways & become predatory criminals....and their last names have followed them .....
