How in gods name would they be able to estimate such a thing?
Do you need to be carrying an '' I am Alqaeda '' card to qualify for this grouping?

Are they only Alqaeda when they cross the pakistani border?..

Secondly, if im correct, its not Alqaeda we are fighting day in day out... its the Taliban....

An eye opening thread, it is hard to believe people still believe the crap their government feed them, not realizing it is just a sham to keep them happy for awhile. Then after they get angry come up with another Bull$h1t.\

Yet most of the fighting is in Helmand, not Qandahar. No you are not fighting the Taliban, you are fighting Afghans and Pakistanis.

Yea. That would have some modicum of value if the mission, as described by the President in last night's address and as formulated by the various military advisors, was focused on al queda. It was not.

The mission, as I understand it to be, is to:

1. Push the Taliban out of ares of where they have established control and provide security for the residents in those areas.

2. Provide backing and security for the goevernment so that they can begin to provide services and govern the country.

3. Provide training for Afghan military and police so that they can take charge of their own security.

These three missions will, presumably, prevent al queda from expanding or enjoying a resurgence in Afghanistan. Your characterization is disingenuous at best.

The entire premise of obamas plan is fatally flawed, and a bit hilarious.

When russia withdrew, soviet trained Afghan forces mostly abandon their posts rather than fight their brothers. They were seen being traitors collaborating with the occupier... if china occupied US soil, americans who joined a chinese trained US security force would be treated the same way.

I find it hard to believe obama et al actually believe Afghans, who have historically rejected occupiers with violence... will change their ways and be willing to die fighting their fellow countrymen defending an occupation installed govt. It defies common sense... unless we keep a large residual force there indefinitely, or until bankruptcy..

IMO obamas plan is a modified "S. Vietnam" model: bribe the Taliban not to attack as (and to allow oil pipelines we want) while we beef up the puppet govt to the point US forces can withdraw relatively safely.. then declare "Mission accomplished" complete with a parade, flags, apple pie and all that.

Not too long after we are gone, our puppet will fold like a cheap suit LIVE! on breaking news as us marine choppers airlift embassy staff from the roof top.
