I mean this in the nicest way possible, but this is not news. I'm pretty sure it is known to everyone that everything we do on the computer is being watched. It is terrible that we cannot have our privacy but it can also be a good thing....like catching pedophiles. We don't have the power to change it. So I just have to look at it like, how many kids can be saved from catching pedophiles via internet? I feel that a kids safety is more important than caring about the government reading what I have to write. I'm wondering why you are in this line of work if you feel it shouldn't even exist. Don't get me wrong, I am all about freedom of speech and privacy but like I said, it is what it is, what can we do about it? It is a little bit hypocritical of you to be telling everyone what is going on but YOU ARE THE ONE DOING IT FOR A LIVING. You are the guy who reads peoples thoughts and decides who is dangerous.....well until one of your co-workers finds your post and you get fired. That is if you do really work for the gov't. I'll take your word for it.

couldn't tell much from the video at all could've been any site.any way, i thought they had super computers running echelon program for years.and you say they don't have anything like that.

Video doesn't really provide much information, a quiet dark room. no back ground noise, no light, surely it can't be an office building .Probably just some kid in a basement with a neat little program.

Add the fact that this is ATS (which if wide scale monitoring is going on, IF, then I would not doubt this site has been looked at), why would you admit to that?

I first saw the thread in the Intros forum. A staff member probably saw it and moved it to an appropriate forum rather than deleting it. Had the silly notion it might just be something people would like to read.

I've seen Intro threads moved before, and I've also noticed some disappear. No, I don't think this is a thread by a staffer. Nice try, though.

What would it take to wipe this thread off the board?? I think I'll post some fake UFO footage just to break up the monotony.

Ugh, not to start a privacy advocacy flamewar or anything, but are you kidding? You are seriously pulling the "it's okay if it protects the children" card? SERIOUSLY?!!

First of all, any system that is in place to monitor web activity is doing so for counter-terrorism purposes. NONE of it is being used to catch child predators. For that, you have local sheriff department employees hanging out in chat rooms luring creeps in. The ONLY way digital communications would be monitored to find a pedophile would be to obtain a warrant on a suspect. You are not going to find alphabet agencies scouring TONS of online data looking for Chester the molester... they are way too busy looking for the new boogyman - Terrance the terrorist.

Second, checking websites and discussion fora for suspicious content as the OP claims to do is not violating anybody's privacy. Arbitrarily tapping an individual citizen's connection and monitoring what they do and what is on their computer is. It may be legal depending on how you read Patroit Act, but it is certainly a privacy concern. I don't give a **** for any "children that might be saved from the bad predators" at the expense of my privacy.

Besides, most child sexual abuse is perpetrated by a family member for friend of the family. As disgusting as it may be, it is no excuse to surrender personal privacy rights... then again, nor is terrorism (IMHO).

I am a civilian and work for the major telecom provider for all telecommunications companies and see what he speaks of daily. I have not signed a nondisclosure clause in any of my contracts so the information I share about the subject is not Top Secret or do I need to feel scared for my life for revealing it.
I use "them or they" referencing the government agency in the basement of the main headquarters of my company. "They" use a computer program I believe was called carnivore, it uses a flag system, flagging words or combination of words. These flagged messages, emails and conversations are passed off to a human for review and from there I do not know. I have seen the program run, know that all messages and the majority of calls in the United States and surrounding countries are run through this program. This is only referring to anything going over a wireless carrier signal, and what was in place 6-7 years ago. I know a few facts about the programs shortcomings, it could only monitor one way communication if the call is between different carriers (this is why "they" have space at all carrier's main headquarters now) and blackberry messages were sent somewhere else for decoding. Blackberry uses their own encrypting and sure "they" have an answer for this problem by now since the program and people I refer to has been in operation for over 6 years in my offices. For all the folks in other countries, this is happening to you as well by your government. I have worked in Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and Columbia and have the same characters involved. It is quite simple to retrieve this information and the telecom companies involved have given "them" a direct connection.
One question that comes up all the time is this spelling change or writing in code, and I can tell you this just means more flags to your message or conversation. Folks I truly believe "they" do not care about most crimes or dirty language (although some folks I work with do get a kick out of reading some of the things people say.) I will tell you it is illegal for the company I work for to comb emails and message but we do intercepts on errors and we work to fix the issues, so some messages are seen and yes some make us laugh. The thought of all information passing by the minute through these companies is being personally monitored is impossible but everyone should think twice before you send any information over any wireless connection, be it your computer or cell phone, it is not private, and if you are flagged someone will be reading....

Man, the lawsuits you can get into for divulging such information...
still, I appreciate what you have done, some people do not realizethe gravity of the situation and the risks you are taking. Ending up on an enemy combatant list is the least of what might happen, besides lawsuits you may be tried for treason. In any case, you should probably not say anything else, or if you do intend to, get a laptop and steal an internet source from somewhere, that way you can't be traced, that is, if you plan on posting more. It is easy to trace you if you post from home or office, wireless stolen internet on a laptop idea is the best solution. make sure the laptop isn't under your name and that you buy it cash, without divulging any information to the stores that sell it to you. This should keep you relatively safe. Especially if you steal internet from your car, a long way away from where you live.

I don't have many questions, just a bunch of I told you so's to everyone I ever tried to wake up. Btw, seriously, how do you get a job like yours? I'd do it, and flag everything as safe, hahaha, wouldn't even bother reading it. What they gonna do, fire me? lmao.

It's not the content that makes me want this thread obliterated, it's primarily fact that this thread was made for spook there to get his 15 minutes of ATS glory at any cost.

He didn't care that he was misleading an abundance of people. He didn't care about the time people had to waste to prove his deception and lies.

All he cared about was getting his name out there, well now there are 8 pages his name out there and if he ever wants respect or credibility on ATS again he is going to have to register a new account.

Personally, I think the mods should ban his IP address. If it's dynamic (which I'm sure it is), he will be back whenever his service provider refreshes the last three digits of his IP. Unless his parents use dial-up in which case there's not much that could be done.

Never the less, I'm done with this thread. If it stays, fine...but as far as I'm concerned, it no longer exists.

1.) For starters, I don't work for the government so I don't know what the **** they are looking for....I assumed child predators would be of concern. Pardon me.

2.) I never said "hey I don't care about my privacy, as long as the children are safe." I care very much about it, all I meant was what can I do about it? I was just saying that could be one good thing coming out of it. But apparently that is for the Police to deal with. You don't have to get so huffy about it.

3.) I'm not really sure why I am even commenting on the whole thing because we all know this thread is ridiculous. I'm so sure some guy working for a top secret gov't agency is really willing to risk it all to let us know what we already knew.

AND P.S. Children don't only get molested by their parents or friends of the family. There are thousands of predators out there that abduct children. Nobody said you had to care about it but don't chastise me because I do.

While I was in college, I worked for a company under a security clearance that handled hard drive scans for SEC investigations. We would literally work twelve hour shifts in the dungeon of an old thrift store that had been converted into a high tech lab for image processing. It was boring. Tons of e-mails, pornographic pictures, and random notes and word docs. Incredibly boring drudgery of scanning, labeling, and copying.

My point is, this was eight years ago, and our UIs were considerably more interactive and shiny than this very obvious hoax. Nice try, though. I'm sure you'll get a ton of believers, regardless of the evidence against your story.

Hoax or not, the OP should change the "read it while you can" thread title, because it's obvious that there will be no banning, and the thread seems to be here to stay.
