What would it take to ACTUALLY impeach Obama?

So for the past couple of weeks there has been steady chatter on ATS as well as a few odd ball news sources presenting the possibility of having Obama impeached. My education on the matter is limited to say the least. Some say the controversy over his birth certificate or lack there of is enough without question, but for some reason I’m just not seeing this happening.

Does anyone know what criteria the president has to meet to get the boot? I remember during the Clinton administration when the Lewinsky scandal was at its peak seeing a big bold headline on the front of the Seattle times stating the Clinton had been impeached, but for whatever reason it never materialized.

Has Obama really done anything to justify being impeached yet? And if so, what steps have to be taken by congress to make it so?

Just curious more than anything..thanks.

He won't be impeached for the same reason Bush wasn't impeached.
His Vice Pres is as bad or worse than he is.

Ok, well hypothetically speaking how would the procedure work if he were to be impeached? It's obviously not as simple as a signature and a greyhound ticket.

There's only two ways to get impeached in American politics: steal money, or have an affair.

You can start illegal wars, torture prisoners, bankrupt the economy, topple governments that you don't like, let your fellow Americans suffer unduly... as long as you don't mess with anyone else's share of the wealth or have sex outside of marriage, that would be crossing the line!

If America couldn't impeach Bush Jr, with an approval rating in the teens, how could any thinking person believe that Obama could be?

Congress is the only one that can impeach him. So far, as we know, everything he has done has been done voted in by Congress.
I really doubt Congress will put a noose around it's own neck.

And yes, i believe they have all broken the Constitution, and yes including all the Bush and Clinton years.

Impeach Obama?

Hell, impeach them all.

Every last one of the bums including the Supreme Court.

Fresh Start program for the Federal Govt.

They tried Head Start to make them smarter, but they thought that meant spending money years before it's time.

The right people in influential positions would have to have a unanymous vote. Bush's ratings were far lower but no one even came close to impeaching him. The Bush administration was clearly malevolent. Maybe Obama's is incompetent in some ways, but Bush was both.

In order to impeach the president, the House of Representatives must introduce a bill of impeachment.

That will never happen with the current house full of traitors and socialists.

HOWEVER.. 2010 will change the balance in the house and Republicans will gain control. There will be a sweep out of a lot of career politicians because 75% of the voters are pissed at the Federal Government.

I suspect by then, one of the very first items will be impeachment of Zero and maybe even a trial for treason.

Its gonna be a real interesting year 2010... a real interesting year!!

If I'm not mistaken I posted this in the US Political Madness forum which is conventionally used for political questions or debate, and who said anything about NEED to know tonight? This is a valid question and while some users (such as yourself) are trolling around scrutinizing random posts for attention, you cannot deny the fact that ATS contains and always will contain monumental proportions of information regularly accompanied by a competent discussion or low and behold a resolution to the thread all together. What a concept!

Congress, to be specific the senate and house of representitives have the power to impeach the president, as granted by the constitution. The folks who complain about how "unconstitutional" the president is constantly insist ignoring the specific constitutional guidelines presented by the founding fathers. They'd rather have a minority of disgruntled voters overthrow the constitutionally elected president by force (or let the military take over, like Fiji) with no process.

Now the president can be impeached for, and convicted of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors. Thus far Obama has committed none contrary to the claims of many on here.

Yes the senate lacked afew of the votes to remove him from office. Also just a note that Nixon was never officially impeached, contrary to the assumptions out there.

Obama has done things not to the liking of many on here, but no he has not committed an impeachable offense, yet. Some speculate he has, or will, but as of yet he has not done so.

oh cmon. Obamas record is squeaky clean. you got nothing on him and impeachment is the farthest thing right now. The problem right now is how to stop this idea of putting more damn troops in Afgainistan and Iraq. I hate seeing how young these army men are and seeing them die. It hurts. It really hurts.

I wish impeachment and the subsequent imposition of (harsh) punishment was easier to apply in the USA and all (illegitimate) governments the world over. I think this would have a positive impact on the job performance of politicians.

In order to be impeached technically, he would have to be accused convincingly of high crimes and misdemeanors, such as murder (personally, not through official actions) or perjury (thereby subverting one branch of the government).

Unofficially, it's only going to happen if both house and senate are a large majority of one party. We learned during the impeachment of Clinton that facts don't matter, political ties do (regardless to your feelings on his guilt or innocence, almost everyone voted party lines, and many never even looked at the evidence).

Umm no. Not with a two-headed, one-party system. They protect and enable each other.

That's the reason they have executive-grade, government-paid medical insurance, paid for by us. That's the reason that these miscreants don't even read the GD legislation they pass, paid for by us. That's the reason these people are participating in the biggest robbery in human history -- the bailouts -- paid for by us. That's the reason these monsters are rubber stamping all the anti-American crapola -- like the (un)Patriot Act, the military commissions act and all the other criminal activity flowing like water from Washington; paid for by our liberties.

It's way past time to flush this political toilet and all the political solid-human-waste running this system.....
