Well ya know I'm 25. I'm young.
None of you guys have it all right. Like if one had to "follow", i would follow something similiar to what you say. However, the only burden i hold upon myself is that which demands "learn", over "follow".
I'm going to assume that those before me of like mind spent the majority of their time curing unknown diseases that are a doctor's appointment away, planting seeds blessed from God, marrying their sister if she was pure blood.
So I ask myself, as a conservative, what did conservatives accomplish when i was young/before i was born?
I ask myself what paths have conservatives set our young people, including me, on?

The rich get richer, is the answer.

Then I ask myself what liberals have done, and loe and behold the end product is the same goddam thing.

Ya know it's healthy, imo, to listen to the older generation, and in no way am i being disrespectful. However, there are certain parameters that have within the last 20 or so years been applied to society. Since this is a democracy, i must ask what trhe hell was going on.

It would seem that the logical conclusion would be violent conflict. But i thought the whole point of "rules", any rules, especially ones that apply to internatinoal affairs, was to lessen the need for such rules? How is it then that I find myself, as a canadian, in debt because of this bailout, even though our country had the healthiest economy in the world?

Our bailout was 60 ibill and the us bailout was 700 bill. That is about the same per capita....I don't blame you, american fella, I just look at your generation and wonder at the selfdestructive tendencies of their decisions....HOWEVER....I cannot ignore the state of the americas. I cannot ignore hitler being defeated...imho it is still too soon to stop saying thanks usa...but i mean c'mon. If you're so opinionated, then at least pretend that you can excersice control within your own nation.

Well you undeservedly suffer because of our excesses...

And I believe what we really need in the States is a Philosophy that limits excess rather than encourages and then bandages it.

Let's face it, Canadians don't live extreme...

I almost regret the title of the thread although I don't know what else i'd call it...

Canadians would break themselves down into Liberal and Conservative too I assume... yet neither group seems to engage in nearly the extremes of Greed and Gluttony and Self Pleasuring that we do in this country.

Being worried about whether people use the N word and in what context or if prayer should be allowed in school or Gay marriage...

Both sides are busy with these moronic debates when we are 17 trillion behind the 8 Ball, half our kids drop out of HS and no one can even stay married once they have those kids...

Our priorities across the board are definitely skewed...

Ya know, it's hard to define.
I'm generally looked at as a conservative in my social life.
THEN "social life" turned into "networking".

Networking is what you need to succed in either canada or the us. It's the new way of saying "it's who you know".

But how far have we delved itno this? This newfound plethora of information? The rules stay the same, even though the players could make their own rules.

Figuratively, the new generation has a twelve foot hoop and if yo brag about dunkin'ten well it's admirable but i squeamishly call for what you ahve said to be erased.

Maybe I talk too much. Maybe i'm too worried about it. I don't stress about it, and i'm told not to worry about it, but all these decisions affect me, they all take money outta my wallet.
The next generation is about highlighting the examples of why that shouldn't be.

Conservative = Not being completely out of control, at least in the States...

I've had long hair most of my life, my spiritual beliefs wax kind of Eastern more than Western, I certainly haven't failed to screw up with chemicals a couple of times before I learned my lesson, was a major slut as younger guy...

When I was a kid, I turned on TV and saw Mrs and mr Brady kiss and was appalled lol... Girl germs... Today on prime time my kid is cruising past Dagrassi on Nickelodeon and a kid is screaming about his uncontrollable Gay urges...

Maybe Conservative for our generation needs to mean something new... Like... " I understand that running rampant over desire is really screwed up"

It's like we keep needing to up the level on personal satisfaction and indulgence...

I don't smoke Crack wax into Tri Sexuality actually work and can be in a relationship that involves one person and pay for my kids...

Ergo By comparison i'm conservative lol

I'm not sure exactly when we got it in our heads that every moment in life our animal instincts and desires were what would make us really happy...

But I don't think it works and that's from personal experience...

For a long time we invented ways to control our urges... most of those we know in this Century were made up lol but lately I find myself saying... so what if it keeps life under control and not in a downward spiral... until something better comes along it seems to trump immoral decision making.

I'm not supposed to be saying things like this until i'm a really old man...

But there are 100 threads a month on these subjects...ruthless kids, loss of morality, destruction of the family, young people who refuse to work and rob parents...

Maybe Palin has a few things to say, maybe we have really crossed a line...

I don't see any other politician who embraces that we have gone completely out of control, if I attack or use a term like Liberal... maybe it's because this supposedly Liberal Govt atm makes no address other than to hand out cash to Boo Bo it, take away guns so when drug raged we don't shoot each other in the face and make health care available because we all need meds and are unbalanced...

But I see this as big No no

People are living and acting, really really bad and we are essentially funding it in order to survive rather than saying HEY.... cut it out...

My hair? meh, forget about that. It's just hair, and has natural curls. These curls haven't declaired their political affiliation so i wouldn't presume to speak for them. so, no comment on that.

This is an unspoken understanding. Yes going to war is horrendous. I could only imagine what went on in ww2. But it's not like anyone got singled out. It's not like people didn't have a say.

Now we have no choice, in our actions. My generation is the surveillance generation. We can be watched any time anyone wants us to.

I enjoyed the OP, and while there is some somewhat valid liberal and conservative stereotyping that many of us are aware of, in reality I think what is being compared is not liberalism and conservatism:

What is being compared is urban and rural lifestyles. What is being compared is natural and artificial options. What is being compared is people who choose love with people who choose ego. What is being compared is normal lifestyles to psychopathic or acquired psuedopsychopathic behaviour patterns.

Actually, all the studies show that conservatives are not only happier people, but more balanced, more productive and live better lives than liberals. I do not want to cite examples, but there have been at least 5 studies that all show the same thing.

The problem with LIBERALS is that they want the Government to take care of them and the cost of that care to come from everyone else. This is SOCIALISM.

They all need to move to California and stay there because it is the only state in the Union of States that is the most screwed up by their laws and fiscal policies.
They don't need to ruin the rest of the nation with their bullpucky!

Furthermore, this thread is ridiculous. It's just a laying bare of human insecurity. "MY WAY OF LIVING IN THE WORLD IS RIGHT EVERYONE SHOULD DO EVERYTHING LIKE ME." The OP talks about how there will be NO culture if liberals had things their way, and then seems to propose...that everybody does things his way? Besides, what makes up culture? Art, music, literature, architecture, and (to a thankfully much lesser degree than when people were being burned at stakes for being accused of witchcraft) religion.

Take away the liberals, and you'll have a couple architects and some churches. Wow, impressive culture. You've managed to make buildings and tell people what to believe.

As far as dying before I'm 120, I'm alright with that. I prefer to not spend my last 20 years defecating all over myself, yelling at Filipino nurses that they steal from me, whilst confusing every person that comes in with my years dead wife. People ALWAYS equate living longer with living better, but simple observation will tell you that the human mind deteriorates, and when it does, life deteriorates. They could probably keep you alive indefinitely at this point, but it wouldn't be living.

Threads like these seem to be the only ones going up on ATS anymore, and I can't help but thinking that soon I'll be able to go to the Fox news boards, then go to the MSNBC boards, and I'll have gotten the entire ATS experience.

Having read every post up to this point in this thread, I think I see the problem:
LACK OF COMMON SENSE!
My Dad was born during the great depression, his Dad raised him alone. They were sharecroppers who lived hand to mouth. Granted my Dad was EXTREMELY dyslexic and never learned to read and indeed when he passed away a couple of years ago could only barely scribble his name on paper. But he pushed me to get an education and taught me that I could accomplish anything in the world that I wanted to accomplish if I used one thing to enhance the education he bought and paid for for me:common sense.
He believed that all the "book learning" in the world was useless as tits on a bull if it wasn't applied to everyday life with common sense.
He voted for the "person" and their agenda and ideas instead of a political affiliation although he would have said he was a democrat.
He believed in giving his children a better life than he had while teaching them the value of working hard, saving for hard times, and living within or below your means.
He and my Mom made sure that we all sat down together every night with all 9 of us kids and ate together as a family and talked about our day.
He believed that YOU could believe whatever in the hell you wanted to believe but that within the four walls of his house and the boundaries of his property he didnt have to let what YOU believed affect his or his familiy's life. And what YOU believed was not going to change his job, his faith, or add or take away one dime from his bank account or the food on his table.
He would have shook his head and smiled if you tried to explain liberals and conservatives to him. In his mind it came down to this: were they trying to do what's right? and did it make common sense.
If neither of those applied, then he wanted no part of it.
My Dad was the smartest man I ever knew.
Common sense....who'd a thunk it!?! ;-)
