Around 500 inmates at Kirkham, near Preston, will be eligible to buy a £1 raffle ticket out of their prisoner's pay.
To be in line for the prize of a day's freedom, they will also have to help prepare a Christmas dinner for local pensioners which is being funded by the draw.
The owner of the winning ticket will be assessed to ensure they are safe to be released, and will be able to spend their day of liberty as they wish.
The only condition is that they must not breach any court orders, for example approaching someone who gave evidence against them in court.
