Approximately 400 more prisoners have been released from the Abu Ghraib prison. Last week 293 detainees were released. Baghdad's Abu Ghraib facility has been at the center of a massive controversy surrounding prisoner abuse and death.

Guardian.co.uk

Several buses carrying prisoners left the prison on the western outskirts of Baghdad. It was unclear where they were headed. In previous releases, buses ferried detainees to U.S. military compounds where Iraqi community leaders welcomed them and escorted some of them home.

Earlier this week, Brig. Gen. Mark Kimmitt said the military planned to release 472 prisoners on Friday.

See prison works miracles when you rape, torture and humilitate somebody who is chained up...I guess prisoners can be rehabilitated obviously since hundreds are being released....

hmmm anybody think somebody raped and torture by american prison guards might have some kind of grudge against U.S. forces over there??

geez these guys are as smart as the guys running the u.s. prisons....stick people in prison and treat them like animals and simply release and yes..as we all know..it works wonders here in america where if we combined all the prisoners together we could start another major city..

genius..pure genius

This is another release I believe... I reported the last one too

Since we've done all these bad things to them, I wouldnt be surprised if they all turned around, grabbed a gun, and shot **** up.

Remember this.... Rummy went to Iraq specifically to address the issue with the abuse, then convieniently released hundreds of prisoners. I highly doubt it was an act of good faith. IMO, they were released before they could get any more abuse stories out to the rest of the world. I imagine there are stories that we will never even hear of that put what is out so far to shame...

they have to release these people, because they had no grounds by which to hold them indefinitely for. You can't go around locking up everyone because they look a certain way or speak up against you.

From the ATS threads I've read it seems that, though it was brutal, the torture we employed against Iraqi detainees was actually effective in that it provided us with useable information. If that's the case, the utilization of torture may have led to an understanding of which prisoners were worth keeping and which weren't. We would have then released the prisoners who did not have any reasonable information we could extract.

On top of that it also seems that even the tortured aren't exactly lining up to give interviews describing their treatment. The US may have been aware that in a muslim society, sexual torture causes the prisoner to become 'unclean' and would cause the prisoner to both talk to his interregators and to not speak of his treatment to outsiders.

Please don't take this to mean that I'm all for torture or anything, but those who believe that torture was conducted solely for the sake of humiliation, doesn't understand why interregators torture their subjects. No, the ends don't justify the means, but our government has demonstrated to us that they might believe differently.
