After a few footage mishaps at Fox News like their recent slip-up: "Fox News Uses Old Palin Footage," the higher ups at the network have had enough.

In an email obtained by FishbowlDC, FNC management alerted the Newsroom that they were going to a "zero base" newscast production, defined in the memo...

"That means we will start by going to air with only the most essential, basic, and manageable elements. To share a key quote from today's meeting: "It is more important to get it right, than it is to get it on." We may then build up again slowly as deadlines and workloads allow so that we can be sure we can quality check everything before it makes air, and we never having to explain, retract, qualify or apologize again."
The memo warns that those involved in future "mistake chains" will receive "warning letters to personnel files, suspensions, and other possible actions up to and including termination."

I think Fox is to be applauded. If the news programs (not just Fox) would focus on just getting their facts straight the media would be much more reliable and a real source for information.

I'm not sure I buy it.

Seems like they were caught and are saving face. The msm will continue to distort facts.

Most MSM news channels are simply pictures and speculation cunningly positioned to either a) create a certain perspective and evoke certain emotions (i.e. that which comes with patriotism) within the masses that best suits or supports the goals of the powers that be b) create higher or increased ratings points ultimately leading to increased advertising revenues.

'News' stopped being 'News' a few years back when ratings points were introduced which have a direct impact on the amount of advertising revenue that can be generated - it then became about the bottom line and profit margins and investor or employee dividends or bonuses

Lou Dobbs for President....I dont think so.

If Fox News is serious about standing behind their statements, then there's going to be a LOT of out-of-work pundits in the job market. There's no place for verbose opinion/rampant speculation in a factual and informative newscast. Yet that's their bread & butter. It's the bread & butter of MSNBC and CNN as well, and they damned well know it.

I'll believe it when I see it.

I had to come in here. The title alone was good for a few laughs.

Quality check? Hmm let's try fact checking first. Maybe even some real investigative reporting for a change instead of reading either straight off the wire and blathering BS for and allowing BS blathered from everyone you want as a friend. Save the friend stuff for your FaceBook.

And while you're at it fix the typos in every other line of your crawl.

i think they stepped in and did the right thing, and even worded it as such to cover their butts against the "evil MSM" argument.

they simply said they will at least, make sure what they put on the screen isn't an out right lie. they can't control who says what live, but they can make sure a clip from one rally doesn't get passed off as one from another.

no smart person is going to think this means they are going to stop playing the same games...just this tactic obviously doesn't get bought.

Yes, Fox is almost pure propaganda. I'm just looking on the bright side. If they become more accountable for their outrageous lies and provocative misstatements, they might (I'm hoping) begin to morph into a more responsible, actual news organization.

There's only one way to know if Fox is serious about this and that is to watch.

It is my observation that few here watch Fox News, especially Fox's harshest critics.

I'd applaud Fox, but the first thing that came to mind was that most news centers propagandize by what they don't show, so by Fox pulling back and showing less in order to "make sure everything is correct", they're actually just fixing it so they'll be able to work the system better. Public letter only makes it more obvious to me.

Works for MSNBC at least.

Typical management blames their own mistakes on their workers while they overload workers with more and more work. This is a threat to every worker at FOX that the bosses will have their jobs and they will be accountable for the mistakes the management makes.

I think the letter was more for public consumption than anyone in the control room.
But I'll have to take their word for it, no way I'm going to waste a single minute of my life watching.

Those weren't mistakes! That was scripted material processed and oK'ed by the producers of the clips. Fox has rooms full of people directing the content of all their programing. They know exactly who their demographic is and they target them to generate appeal to keep them watching and buying the depends, packaged diet food, denture glue, cat food, Viagra and the rest of the stuff that appeals to conservatives over 50.
It's about money, profit and greed; not news; just like Bravo111 said.

They just got caught in their BS.

Fair and balanced............... yeah right.

The news clips here on ATS is closer to being truthful than TV.
