My father was always the strong , silent type . Very English , old school and
upper crusty . He was educated at private boarding schools , so emotionally ,
our family was dysfunctional . At meals ,nobody spoke , we weren't allowed ,
and the children ate first , the adults ,later in the evening.
Children were to be seen , but not heard .
He was distant in more ways than one .
During the second world war , he was in the air force . Aircraft design and
aeronautics . Occasionally flying with test pilots . He narrowly missed dying
in a number of experimental planes .
In the late 1950's he became a rocket scientist . Or so we were told . He
worked at remote secure locations ,and we rarely saw him . When he did show
up , he always had his secretive armed forces friends in tow , usually high
ranking navy or air force types .
He always dodged direct questions of what he did , but would often amaze
us with tales of aliens and spaceships he had worked with . I remember a
number of occasions he brought home some very interesting people [aliens]
and they were not backward in coming forward , in answering my many
questions .Their knowledge of science and technology was mind blowing ,.

and they always left me with a fascinating new , scientific toy .
It became clear to me then , that their technology was being given to
our side , and that advanced weaponry and interstellar spacecraft , would
be the result .
My father eventually retired , and I seemed to accidently run into more
and more of his spooky mates , and their progeny .
I was allowed , introduced to , more aliens over the subsequent years ,
and they were very human like , but out of our league , technologically .
They told me in a round about way , that their home world's had
evolved in a very similar way to ours , but warfare had destroyed the
environment , and now , they lived in space .
It always puzzled me as to the motives behind all this , but I was never
directly told until .....


One night recently , I was out fishing alone , in a very isolated place ,
when a massive disc shaped spaceship [ 5 km diameter ] , cruised over-
head ,at five hundred metres very slowly , and almost silently . It blocked
out the sky for 20 mins. I watched in disbelief for an hour , until it
disappeared into the haze .
and was the single most impressive thing I had ever seen . The under-
side was covered in lights , antennae and gun turrets .
Truly awesome .
And no , this was not a cloud/swamp gas/lanterns/balloon or Venus !
Obviously , I kept this to myself , even mentioning such things , draws
serious derision from most people .
Two days later , another shadowy friend turned up , and asked me
"whether I'd seen it "?

"How could I miss it" ? I replied . "Is it ours ?""YES" Don't make any plans for
2012 " , I was told . " About a week before the nuclear world war , you will recieve
an invitation to a party in an obscure place ,." Make sure you go ! "

I'll be there alright .....

Liked the lead-in, and the descriptions of the father and the way
of life . . at that time.

Good read, m'friend! I really like the setting of the scene in the initial movement of the story....... it makes the story feel more real, and makes it feel like disclosure -- if it happens -- won't be the Earth-crushing and culturally smothering event we've been lead to believe it might be.
