I can sympathise with this. But the past is the past.

See Chadster, this is the point that most miss with Indigenous people, the past is not the past for them
Their dreamtime is ever present.
Their ancestors, it makes no difference if it was a grandmother or a great great great grandmother. Ancestors are a sacred part of their culture, and still present in their current identity. As an example, the blowing of ochre over hands in caves next to tens of thousands year old hand prints is still practiced as the white historical "timeliine " doesnt really exist, they are part of the same ancestral story.
This "past" concept is our perception.

Up till the 80's we were still messing with them massivley, 30 years isnt enough time "to just get over it" and assimilate to our way.

i can't speak for them, but from what i understand, they do not want Revenge or even monetary Reparations, as Indigenous cultures tend to value forgiveness - they just want respect.

Education.
Health Care.
Leadership.

Education - Government pays them to go to school and they can get free breakfast there in the morning to ensure they have some nutrition.

Health Care - They have completely free health care, they don't have to spend one cent of their own money.

Leadership - Government setup and funded ATSIC but eventually the leadership qualities or lack of lead to the waste of tax payers dollars.

It's apparent that what is being done is inadequate. Doing the same thing again and again and expecting the results to be different is said to be a sign of madness.

The kid needs to learn, I never stole anything as a child, nor accepted any items.

I knew it was wrong, this kid should too.

Now its a freddo, in 10 years time it's a Mercedes.

Oh please!

Racism? Its the catchcry when the person committing the crime is not white! I am sick of it!

The boy shoplifted an item. He is known to the police for this & other offences. The police were doing their job, & obviously thought it justified to arrest the boy. Do you really think they want to waste their time arresting children over stealing lollies? No, dig deeper to find the real reason, & the Freddo is NOT the reason. The boy's history is the reason.

The only damn racism in THIS country is reverse racism, against white Australians, & I'm sick of it. And I'm not the only one. Most of us here don't care what color a person is, as long as they are a decent person.

Yeah, & what has he learned from this? NOTHING! Oh, except that if he commits a crime, & squeals loud enough, the media will come to his rescue & he will get off---because of the color of his skin!

One day its a Freddo Frog, next day its a BMW!

Sadly there is a theme occurring in this Country with "Do Gooders" influencing the Laws so that the "Whites" are the criminal no matter the circumstance. I can tell you if my son got caught pinching that Fredo, I would be kicking his ass ( oh sorry can't do that the Laws got changed ) so hard and ensure that he understand that his actions have repercussions and that all his privileges were gone for a year and that he would have to make recompenses.

Ahhh no this doesn't happen in the case of the Indigenous Kid stealing a fredo frog, there is a legal aid service he gets for free and it gets him off "Scott free".

You allow anyone to not be punished and you have the problem right there, what are the Aboriginal Kids being taught and told by their carers ? I can tell you because I have experienced this first hand. But you wont listen because its not what you "WANT!!!" to hear because you have had your brain rewired by the PC crowd.

It's not about obvious expertise, and it's not about moving anyone into my house. It's about pressing my MPs and MPPs to support social policy that goes towards fixing problems, not extending them or hiding them. Meanwhile, it's about teaching my kids to respect aboriginal people and their culture (and I speak of Canadian indigenous people here), and I provide opportunities for them and others to experience native culture as part of their own heritage landscape.

I try to give respect an opportunity to take root...and if this generation is a write-off on both sides, then the task is to focus on the next.

Let's take a deep breath for a second and review the facts outlined in the opening post.

A child was accused of receiving stolen property, which as best I can tell was a single piece of candy pinched from a store.

I don't think anyone is advocating someone be excused from breaking the law. I do think there is some question about the appropriateness of the action.

If any kid who would've found themselves in this situation would've been treated the same way, then I have less problem with it. Taking a kid to jail and held in a cell for 10 hours in "appalling conditions ill equipped for children" for it is still over the top (in my opinion) but if all kids are handled this way then so be it.

The problem arises when there is one standard for Group A and another for Group B. This fosters nothing but resentment and if it creates a "victim mentality" maybe it's because the system, through actions like this, really creates victims. You can't treat people in these situations differently based upon their ethnic background and expect them to buy into the system. Get all the retribution you want, just be aware what you're creating. Treat them differently, they'll act differently. This is a shock?

If your own 12 year old child was treated like this, can you honestly say you wouldn't have a problem with it? I would. I'd have a huge problem.

Once again, today its a Freddo frog, next time its a BMW!

The kid was known to the Police, for prior crimes, & they made the decision to arrest him & pop him in the cells for 10 hours ( if that is actually true ) for his troubles. What's wrong with teaching the kid consequences V's actions?

Regardless of the color of your skin, if you live in the community, you come under the same laws as everyone else in the community. The color of your skin does not give you an excemption from the LAW. The only thing that kid has learned from all of this is that the color of his skin will get him off, if he commits a crime & squeals loudly enough about racism. What a joke!! How this is acceptable to anyone is beyond me.

The punishment fit the crime IMHO, but unfortunately the Commissioner has had to weigh into this & try to smooth things over because of the left-winged press coverage & squeaky-wheel minority do-gooder groups who have latched onto this tale of crime & punishment.

Read that and it sums up everything about the problem here, we are not dealing with people you would want in your own home let alone your own neighborhood and the laws send messages that this kind of behavior is ok.

Now, please...are you saying that white folk are beyond that sort of behaviour? While I don't buy into the leniency of the first judge, it at least makes a statement that the punishment was increased on appeal (though not enough). I think you'd be better off trying to find a solution to your problems than carry on about the bad guys.

Nobody is saying that a white Australian wouldn't be capable of these sort of crimes, in fact, the jails are full of white & other colored skinned people who are there for various reasons, including rape.

Despite what the left-wing do-gooders of this country ( & other countries ) think, the Australian Aboriginals are looked after very well by the tax-payer, thank you very much. In fact, I'm sure someone posted what they actually get & are entitled to from The Australian Govt.

What the problem is, is that when one of them is caught doing somethng wrong, like committing a crime against society ( like shoplifting ), then they scream out discrimination based on the color of their skin-----learned behaviour, taught to them by the do-gooder lefties of this country. How this helps them to learn & become law abiding citizens escapes me.

Doesn't matter whether the charged have been dropped, this WILL happen again, & highly likely that the same 12 year old boy will be in the middle of it. Hopefully he won't go on to rape or kill some innocent person------but then again, he might just get off based on the color of his skin.

Pls keep it in perspective he didnt shoplift, he recdeived a stolen 70 cent freddo frog.

The case was dropped, the idea that the indigneous are presocialised genetically to behave this way appears has not been dropped.
