Alright. I am heading out for the night but will be back in the morning to catch up. Keep bringing the topics and debate as I love to see passionate people stating their beliefs, wrong or right.

Oh, I didn't realize your goal was chaos!

Interestingly, slightly off-topic, our cultural propensity to institutionalize hatred is a most troubling aspect of our society; but it also engenders the unity we experience as we cling to each other for support. It's like inevitable ebb and flow of the tide.

Thankyou.

You wearing a shirt with a racial overtone may lead one to believe that you have racial tendencies.
The 2 things aren't synonymous. "I dont hate [insert ethnicity]; I just hate what they do" is inherently racist because there is nothing that all members of a particular ethnicity do that is not done by all other humans. However, there is @least 1 thing all religious people & political ideologues do: believe in a belief system.
I hate that. IMO, we should re-evaluate all relevant ideas in the context of new circumstances before deciding anything significant. I cant always live up to that, which I also hate... but not myself
. A belief system tho is a whole chain of ideas which culminate in attitudes. The ideas themselves almost never come under scrutiny unless circumstances are traumatic, by which point its too late, because trying to think clearly for the 1st time in years when we're upset is damn difficult! Only by practice can we learn to challenge ourselves to come up with the best we are able to, even when we're really hurt. Conversly, unreconstructed attitudes held to for years are the very cornerstone of ignorance.
On the gay thing: being gay is the state of being attracted to the same sex, you dont have to do anything. Also, its quite possible to be friends with gay people but to absolutely abhor gay sex. How many of your friends do you see having sex, or talk about their sexual practices with? I dont feel that way myself, but I have some quite ugly friends & if they started telling me about their sex lives I'd be horrified. Similarly, if I went on about BDSM to them, things would get strained.

My advice is just don't go around pushing your beliefs on others or expecting special treatment, and you'll never get any crap for whatever you happen to believe.

Christians are duty bound to go soul winning, knocking on doors, telling
people how they can be saved. We never get any special treatment that I'm aware of. We have to take the c**p from those who don't believe,it's
part of the christian life.

Apparently Muslims are also "duty bound" for murderous jihad according to interpretations of their holy book, but any Muslim with good sense would know where to draw the line so as to be able to function with the rest of society.

How cool that you stopped by.

Yes, it is because of you and a couple of other mods that I stopped short of say "ALL" mods (dare I cast a stone at a group).
I have always enjoyed reading your insightful and well-thoughtout replies while maintaining fairness. Please don't feel that you are included in this thread. What I am concerned about is not the mods but the atmosphere that is being created. Hate of anything should not be tolerated.

Well, maybe. I think it is tolerable to hate some things.... ignorance comes to mind.... BS is another good one.... the current state of world affairs pegs my hate meter.... just to name a few things.

Just sayin'

Actually, I think you need to take the blinders off, man. There is more bull***t and hate for pretty much everyone and every race and every creed and every color floating around this site, weather it be religious or not. The pro-palistinians terrorist sympathizors hate the zionists, the christian right wing neocons hate the muslims, the capitalists hate the socialist nanny-state welfear mongerers, the gun nuts hate the totalitarian government, that's scared #eless of them because Chuck Effing Norris is out to get them for buying up all the 9mil in Walmarts across the nation. Sovernists hate illegals, the illegals hate the blacks, the blacks hate each other according to the gangsta rappahs. Every one hates Christians 'cause they won' stay the f*** home, mormons and jehovas doubly so.
But that's not all, evolutionists hate the cryptozoologists, bigfoot hates the ufo guys, greys hate reptillians and the pseudo-scpetics are always looking down their noses at everyone else.
Given some of the anti-muslim, anti-semetic, anti-governmet, homophobic, rascist diatribe that I have seen on this site that pass for threads on this site, I think "Idon't hate Christians, I hate what they do." is pretty effing P.C.
Seriously man, go watch the no planers duke it out with the "official story is the gods honest truth so help me Dubya" kids.

Usually i read every post in a thread but it's 4am, i can't sleep and i was bored. Not the best of excuses but at least truthful

As for hatred, well i think only a minority hate and the rest are just honestly discussing something in the best way they can. I think the word hatred is handed out far to often on topics to discredit the poster.

Damn, I forgot to say...

I understand what you are saying but the actions the person "hates" defines what that group is which means you still end up hating that group.
Not at all. Hating people & hating things are 2 entirely different things. Eg, I've been vegetarian for 26yrs. I generally dont mind people eating meat around me unless it really stinks. However, big family get togethers like Xmas are 2 different story. A massive roast turkey in the middle of the table for the whole meal... I really hate that, but I dont hate them. Actually, they dont even know just how bad I think it is. I'm sitting there thinking the poor thing needs a decent burial & their all piling in for 2nds. Its horrible, but I keep my mouth shut because I love them & dont want to spoil their occasion & animal eating isn't all that defines them. I'm just grateful they understand that my food has to be cooked without coming into contact with the dead beasts.
Hating people is about resentments: we're hard pressed not to behave negatively toward them. Hating things, we have more choices: remove it, remove ourselves, try to stop it or try to tolerate it. Apply these choices to hatred of people & really only the saintly are going to manage to avoid some unpleasant behaviour, but only a nutter is going to allow themselves to get so worked up over behaviour, unless it actually is a threat to them or theirs personally.

I haven't read through the entire thread, but I just wanted to say there's a lot of hate in general going around this board. Mostly what I see is hate towards Islam, Judaism, Christianity and Homosexuals.

I'm in none of those 4 groups, but I still don't like seeing the hate towards them. I guess it's a sign of the times when hatred is bleeding into every part of society these days.

The word "hate" is a cold, disgusting callus word. Many like to use it as a sword, and can cut others to the bone. All of us, at one time or another thoughout our lives, have used that word. We may not have intended it as a negative, but that is what it is. Many use it without understanding just how bad it really is. To hate what a group does, be it a religion or any organization, is no different then hating the people themselves. Because it is the people themselves who keep these groups or organizations alive with what they practice. Maybe what they practice may not be right, but, who are we to judge them? Is every little thing we do so perfect? No, we`re not perfect. I sometimes may not agree with the things that others may practice, but I can never hate them, or what they do.

The things that others do that makes us angry at them, is nothing more then a mirror reflection of ourselves and what we do. So we take our own frustrations with ourselves out on them. That is why the word hate, is used like it is. It is used as a slap in our own face, for our own short comings.

Your basic statement is incorrect. No form of hatred is *allowed* on ATS. Many different types of hatred are expressed. Christianity doesn't receive more than its fair share of hate. Judaism, Islam, Liberals, Conservatives, Whits, Blacks, Latinos, Asians, Americans, English, Europeans, Atheists, Gays, Straights, Men, Women, probably even Aliens, all of these receive plenty of hate from other members.

Much of what is viewed as *Christian* hate, is actually anger at religious people in general, and it is almost exclusively directed against religious bigots or fanatics. A religious person who quietly practices his religion, who shows respect for those who don't believe in that religion, doesn't catch much flak. People who justify their bigotry based on what the Bible or Koran say, who condemn people who are different, who are "sinners" according to their narrow-minded interpretations, do catch plenty of flak. It is one thing to say that your Book prohibits certain behavior or acts. It is another to condemn people who do these things as anything less than full human beings deserving of the same respect the religious extremist wants to be shown.

If a Christian (or any other religious person) speaks out to condemn certain people, you can depend on it that that religious person is going to catch hell for it. The fact that some people or actions are prohibited by your holy book does not give you the right to disrespect anyone. If you disrespect them, you are fair game to be treated with disrespect.

Most Christians (most religious people) on this site treat others with respect. They may not agree with those other people; they may believe that God is against such people; but they nevertheless treat them with respect here. That is as it should be.

Unfortunately, there is a disrespectful minority in every group who do condemn and disrespect others. Some Atheists disrespect religious people, sometimes Christians in particular. Some Christians disrespect Athei9sts or Muslims or Jews. And so on. None of this hatred is "tolerated". And really, Christians are not singled out for this honor.

I've been here for over 5 years and have seen anti christian threads.. but I've also seen plenty of anti-atheist, anti evolutionist, anti muslim, anti buddhist and anti witch threads.

I think you are seeing only what you want to see.

Can we all not have an opinion without that opinion being referred to as hating?

When did the intellectually elite become so thin skinned?

We are supposed to be the best of the best here at ATS, right?

Its because Christianity is no longer scientifically valid they've tried.. they failed. Its been brought before supreme court "intelligent design" is nothing but a rebranding of Christianity.

Why don't we worship Appolo? Because we know where the sun comes from
Why don't we worship Zeus? Because we know where the clouds come from

When man can't find answers to questions they have not the answers to they make up a feasible explanation because of our drive of always being right. Now unfortunately I believe we have about maybe 200-500 years before we can start mining asteroids and finding the origins of this universe.

Religion has attempted to call itself "Creation *SCIENCE*" *cough bull#*
And it has been taken to scientific institutions and they have tried to prove it a fact. When you try and create an argument scientifically

You need a logical argument not just "Ok well this is what we think would happen please believe us" If you we're to take that to an organization and try to cite that as truth they would shoot you down and say *You have no evidence to support your claims and everything else is NOT exempt to this rule so neither are you* and this has happened with creationist

Postorboy Kent Hovind and the Discovery institute...

If you look at it from a Logical Standpoint...

-God's invisible "of course"
-God's everywhere "but nowhere"
-The book was admittedly written by "man"
-Almost every country in the world created there own religion to control the populations. "The pope, The bishops, All had nearly and sometimes more power then kings or queens.
-God has never preformed -ANY- Miracles and prayer has no effect on life at all. Scientists preformed a test and told people to prey for 2 different groups of people. People who knew they we're being prayed for and people who didn't. People who knew they we're being prayed for actually did worse and suffered stress that led to their unfortunate deaths.

The reason Christianity is no longer respected is the same reason we don't prey to AArialppolo anymore, Its holding us back and we need to move forwards instead of being held back by bed time stories.

I think Masons get a raw deal on this board. I am not a mason and do not read masonic works or threads but my uncle is a mason and a catholic and all I have ever seen or heard of them doing is good things worthy of praise and all I have ever seen them get around here is attacked or someone making yet another thread where naturally masons are going to come in there and defend themnselves. The one distinction I have noticed about them is, they always seem to get associated with such mysterious but ultimately evil goings on in the world and not once have I ever read such allegations where those that allege it, prove it.

I would think masons get tired of all that and although angry replies are frowned upon here, sometimes even removed, I sure can understand some of it coming from them.
