You're facts are really screwed up and the fact is that Veteran's day is for the living. Memorial Day is for the dead.
However, it is impossible to honor the living without honoring the dead. They served and fought beside us. They are forever in our hearts.
If Veteran's Day offends you, maybe you should stay home and sulk.
If you really care about homeless vets, then I don't see how Veteran's Day could be a problem for you.
There are many programs for veteran's, most of which are privately funded and very many programs that are government funded.
You might be interested in knowing that I worked for a year and a half in a homeless shelter and I know that population very well.
The homeless problem is real, but it is also too often overstated for dubious political agendas.
Why not chill out and just say thanks to those who sacrificed so that you can carp.
